Our school has been awarded $20,000 in scholarships for deserving students to study abroad next summer! The Global Navigator Scholarships give students access to 45 summer study abroad programs offered by CIEE—Council on International Educational Exchange—in 22 destinations around the world. Programs focus on Language & Culture, Service & Leadership, and Global Discovery in fields such as marine ecology and global entrepreneurship. The goal is to prepare students to navigate across languages, connect with other cultures, and develop global competencies for thriving in today’s interconnected world. Key Facts Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are eligible to apply Awards are based on merit and financial need Scholarships cover from 10% to 100% of the program tuition depending on need and do not cover airfare, passport or visa fees, or personal spending money Students complete both the program application and the scholarship application at www.ciee.org/high-school-summer-abroad/ Timeline Application deadline is December 1, 2015 CIEE will contact students with scholarship award offers within three weeks of application deadline. Students must accept or decline the scholarship within 10 days Programs run for three or four weeks, beginning in either June or July 2016 CIEE Responsibilities During the application process, CIEE will serve as the contact and support for students and parents. CIEE will review applications, apply scholarship criteria equitably, and select awardees, communicating results to applicants. For the scholarship recipients, CIEE will then work with families to handle all details of the summer travel and program participation. At the end of the summer, CIEE will collect feedback on the study abroad process and experience from our students, parents, teachers, and administrators. Our School’s Responsibility This opportunity is for students passionate about learning one of our world languages as well as any student fascinated by service or content studies in a global context. Our school has agreed to announce the scholarships, enthusiastically spread the word to students and parents, and submit a minimum of 10 applications. When CIEE selects scholarship recipients, we will announce and celebrate the winners. Upon their return, we will provide classroom, school, and community forums for students to share their international experiences.
