Welcome to: “Women Helping Women Reach for the Stars – A P.E.O. Philanthropies Web Tour” This presentation was developed for the Salt Lake Reciprocity Meeting on February 10, 2011. Kathy Biele, AI, and Teri Lane, O, - both members of the Utah P.E.O. Communications Team - gave a brief visual tour of the projects information and resources on both our Utah and International P.E.O. websites.

When I think about all our philanthropies, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed! Don’t worry! Let’s start at the beginning– do you know how many International and Utah Philanthropies are there?

Today we will give you a MAP (the At-A-Glance Handouts and our websites) AND some GUIDES (Utah sisters who serve as International Project Representatives and on Utah Projects Committees) to help you on your way!

A great place to start is our revised Utah State Chapter website launched in January 2011. We want to thank Rebecca Conant, Y, for leading the Communications Team efforts in the website revision as well as the Peggy Koschin, AL, who served for the last 3 years as webmaster. Our new website has Public and Members Only Sections and links directly to P.E.O. International and Cottey College from every page.

Handouts can be found at the Utah P.E.O. website: www.peoutah.org “P.E.O. Philanthropies At-A-Glance” page. They provide you with At-A-Glance information about our projects as well as a contact list to sisters who can answer your questions about projects.

Each International Project has a Representative and a State Board Adviser. Each Utah Project has a three-member committee and a State Board Adviser.

The Utah Cottey College Committee oversees both student outreach and scholarships.

Our Utah Cottey College Committee works with prospective students & parents, provides financial assistance for students to attend a “C” for Yourself weekend on campus, coordinates care packages for enrolled Utah Cottey students and provides financial assistance to enrolled students through the Utah Cottey Scholarship and Ruth H. Clark Cottey Scholarship. Once a Cottey graduate, she can apply for assistance in completing her four-year degree through the Chapter F, Utah Cottey Graduate Fund.

For High School Seniors

• For exceptional Utah women

• Attending a college or university

outside the state of Utah

• Applications sent to Utah High Schools

• No Chapter Sponsor needed

• For exceptional women

• Chapter Recommendation

The Susan W. Coda Memorial Scholarship is awarded to an exceptional Utah senior high school woman who will be attending a college or university outside of Utah. The STAR scholarship is awarded to exceptional senior women in high school.

For Utah Women

• For Utah High School Graduates

• Accepted to Nursing Program

• Financial Need

• Sent to all Utah Nursing Programs

• Chapter Recommendation

• For Single Mothers

• Utah Resident, High School Graduate

• Enrolled in Undergraduate Program

• Sent to all Utah Colleges

The Ruth S. Clayton Nursing Scholarship helps women enrolled in a Utah nursing program. The Gump & Ayers Scholarship is awarded to a single mother enrolled in an undergraduate program.

Within Two Years

• 3% LOAN, $10,000 maximum

• Accredited Higher Education Program

(Vocational, Nursing, Undergraduate,

Graduate, Law or Medical School)

• Within 2 years of completion

• Chapter Recommendation

• 24 consecutive months as non-student

• Within 2 years of educational goal

• Enrolled in an educational program

leading to employment or job advancement

• Chapter Sponsor

The Educational Loan Fund (ELF) assists women within two years of completing a wide variety of educational goals. Program for Continuing Education (PCE) helps women whose education has been interrupted.

Pursuing Graduate Degree

• International Student

• Enrolled full time in

Graduate Program or Cottey College

• Promise to Return to Own Country

• Pursuing doctoral level degree

or postdoctoral research

• Highly Competitive

• Within 2 years of completion

• Chapter Nomination

International Peace Scholarship (IPS) assists an international student enrolled in a graduate program or Cottey College. The Scholar Award (PSA) is a highly competitive award for women pursuing doctoral level or postdoctoral research.

Financial Aid For Utah Women

• Utah Resident with financial need

• Funds either for

1) emergency assistance; or

2) a degree or certification program

post-secondary Utah institution

• Chapter Sponsor

• Utah Resident with financial need

• Seeking education that is not part of a

degree program at a Utah institution

• Chapter Sponsor

The Helen Abbott Fund can provide either emergency assistance or educational assistance. The Carol S. Putnam Fund assists women seeking education that is not part of a degree program.
