Transcript of How have you represented different Social Groups in your Magazine?
Vibe:
Vibe is targeted at both males
and females between the age
of 18-34. The audience of the
magazine is known as a ‘niche’
audience because it is a small
and specific audience.
Additionally, the audience is not
categorized into one specific
social class, however middle-
class is the main group in which
the audience falls into.
Furthermore, the magazine is
not aimed at one particular
ethnic group either, although
the majority of the audience
tend to be of the black race.
XXL:
XXL is targeted more towards the gender of males between the age of 16-
27 due to the masculine images and colours used. The audience of the
magazine tend to fall into the middle-class even though it is not aimed at
one specific social group. Also, the magazine is targeted at all these
people who have a passion for RnB/Rap/Hip Hop music and not specific
to one ethnic group. However, the black race seems to be the majority of
the audience, especially because black-raced people are conventionally
on the cover of this genre of magazine.
Urban (my magazine):
Urban is supposedly targeted at males and females
(event hough only images of females have been
included- these appeal to both men and women). The
age group it is targeted at is mainly 16-18 year olds,
however from my audience research someone the
age of 29 took my survey therefore meaning they are
interested in RnB/Rap/Hip-Hop genres of music which
means the overall target audience is generally 16-29
year olds. The social class of the target audience is not
really specified although I associate middle-classed
people to listen to RnB/Rap and Hip Hop. Also, my
magazine is not aimed towards any specific ethnic
group. However, I do believe that people of the black-
race may be more interested in this genre because
there tend to be more RnB/Rappers/Hip-Hop musicians
of this race than the white race.
