SMTP , POP3 & IMAP• SMTP : it’s a protocol for sending mail message between servers. Most e-

mail system that send mail over the internet use SMTP to send message from one server to another

• POP :Post Office Protocol download all mail from the server from the inbox and stores in computer. Email are removed from the server. Email are available when internet is not connected.

• IMAP : It’ stands for internet message access protocol. Email stay on the server and we can make and view mail folder on the server addition to the inbox. Since email stay on the server we can see all mail from many client program or device.

How does Email works

Email

Page 7: How e-mail, chat, ATM, Skype, VOIP, online submission (online forms), online education (electronic board), payment gateway works

• After composing a message and hitting send, email client whether it's Outlook Express or Gmail - connects to domain's SMTP server

• email client communicates to the SMTP server, giving it email address, the recipient's email address

• The SMTP server processes the recipient's email address - especially its domain. If the domain name is the same as the sender's, the message is routed directly over to the domain's POP3 or IMAP server - no routing between servers is needed.

• If the domain is different, though, the SMTP server will have to communicate with the other domain's server

How does Email works

Email

Page 8: How e-mail, chat, ATM, Skype, VOIP, online submission (online forms), online education (electronic board), payment gateway works

• DNS takes the recipient's email domain name and translates it into an IP address

• SMTP server has the recipient's IP address, it can connect to its SMTP server. The message is routed along a series of unrelated SMTP servers until it arrives at its destination

• The recipient's SMTP server scans the incoming message. If it recognizes the domain and the user name, it forwards the message along to the domain's POP3 or IMAP server.

Back end process of an ATM• An ATM machine is a data terminal equipment(DTE) which converts user

information into signals or reconverts received signals.• These signals are processed via a standard telephone line using a toll free number

or via Ethernet connection using the internet service(advanced option)• PIN number of the customer and the Terminal Id number(TID) connects the ATM

network via which carried to the host processor or card holders bank• What is an ATM network? If you take your ATM card out of your wallet now, you

will see network logos (also known as bugs) on the back: • On receipt of the request, host banks application will send the desired results

asked by the user after validation of the request• The bank application will also call the API url used as an SMS gateway• http://sms.XXXX.in:8080/smart/SmartSendSMS.jsp?

Chat“ Real-time communication between two or more users via computer or mobile. Once a chat has been initiated, either user can enter text by typing on the keyboard and the entered text will appear on the other user's monitor. Most networks and online services offer a chat feature.”

CHAT

Page 16: How e-mail, chat, ATM, Skype, VOIP, online submission (online forms), online education (electronic board), payment gateway works

• Computers & mobiles make it hard to be a hermit.

• There are thousands of users engaged in friendly chats over the Internet.

• There are six types of IM clients, including single-protocol, multi-protocol, web-based, enterprise, mobile app and portable IMs. Regardless of which type you choose, they all connect the same way.

CHAT

Page 17: How e-mail, chat, ATM, Skype, VOIP, online submission (online forms), online education (electronic board), payment gateway works

• For a member of the IM network, the server will send your buddy list data

• The data sent to your computer is sent in multiple units called packets, smaller bits of information which leave the network server are received by your IM client. The data is then collected, organized and presented as live and offline friends on your contacts list.

• From this point, the collection and distribution of information between your computer and the network's server is continuous, open and instantaneous, making the lightning-quick speed and convenience of instant messaging possible.

CHAT

Page 18: How e-mail, chat, ATM, Skype, VOIP, online submission (online forms), online education (electronic board), payment gateway works

• Sending an instant message seems like a breeze

• Double-clicking a contact's screen name tells the client software to produce an IM window, addressed to that particular user

• Behind the screen, the client rapidly breaks up your message into packets, which are delivered directly to the recipient on their computer or device. As you chat with your contact, the window appears identically to both parties, and messages appear within a split second of being sent.

CHAT

Page 19: How e-mail, chat, ATM, Skype, VOIP, online submission (online forms), online education (electronic board), payment gateway works

• Once you are offline the server will stop incoming data packets from being transmitted to your computer or device. The network also updates your availability to offline on the buddy lists of friends, family and colleagues

• Incoming messages which were not received are stored as offline messages on most IM clients, and will be received when you sign back into the service

How does Skype works ? • The technique for making a phone call using the Internet is

referred to as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), because it uses TCP/IP for delivering voice information

• The call uses TCP/IP to travel over the local network, then through the Internet, and then finally goes to the normal phone network closest to the call location

SKYPE

Page 24: How e-mail, chat, ATM, Skype, VOIP, online submission (online forms), online education (electronic board), payment gateway works

How VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) Works

• The VoIP phone converts the voice signal to digital data and compresses it .

• The compresses digitized voice signal is broken into IP packets.• The packets are sent out across the internet the same as any other

IP packets , using the internet TCP/IP Protocol• The voice packets are sent to an IP voice gateway nearest to the

phone call's destination. The IP voice gateway takes the voice packets converts them back into original form and sends them to the Public switched telephone network (PSTN)

• The call goes through PSTN , the call is sent to the IP gateway , which compresses it breaks into packets sends it over to the internet to the caller
