Getting married in Costa Rica is remarkably easy. There’s no shortage of wedding planners to smooth the way. The ceremony can be performed by an officiate or by a Costa Rican attorney. As long as a couple can provide the appropriate documentation (such as passports, proof of divorce or death certificates if required and an affidavit of singleness), a lawyer will witness the proceedings and complete statements to be signed by the couple following the ceremony. Those are then registered with the Civil Registry, translated, notarized by the couple’s consulate or given an apostle.

Once that is complete the official notification is sent to their home, where they can register the marriage locally. Costa Rican weddings are recognized the world over and most wedding planners will take care of the steps required, even down to providing witnesses if a couple needs them!
