Torch Relay

• True to the 1916 design• Remain lighted for entire journey (6 weeks, 2400 miles)• Illuminated at Corydon, finish at the Statehouse in a

new home, Bicentennial Plaza.• Key feature – convey the torch in ways meaningful and

unique to every county. What would you do?• Requires a very special torch….high-tech, Hoosier

made.

Connected Colleges

• Indiana University – Treasures in Your Own Backyard DVD, Along the Wabash documentary for WTIU.

• Butler University – Student collaboration on children’s book focused on Indiana history.

• Ball State University – Developed new interactive 4th grade history curriculum, - Interactive, tablet based. Contact Dr. Ron Morris for details

• Manchester University – Bison-tennial project with local K-12 schools, Chamber of Commerce and Civic Groups

• ArtSmart Indiana – Lafayette Museum of Art - interactive history through art. Curriculum is free to all schools. Press conference on October 14.

• Indiana Humanities’ All-IN – celebrates diversity and how we all fit in together to make Indiana

• “Getting from Here to There,” a workshop for teachers focusing on SI transportation over the years

• ISM – Indiana in 200 Objects• Reading Indiana, Pike County – will gift books by/about

Indiana to students in the schools.

• In Pursuit of Pride – a 4th Grade Field Trip to Remember Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site 2014 – 16

• Statehood Day Essay Contest – Indiana State Library – for 4th graders, 2015 “Hoosier Bicentennial Treasures”, 2016 is “How will you be a Hoosier Hero?”

• Indiana Statehood Day – 4th graders celebrate the state’s birthday.

• Bicentennial Revolutionary War Exhibit – Indiana War Memorial – includes new feature on 3 Indiana Forts.

• Indiana at 200 – a series of articles on the 100 most significant events in Indiana History – not elementary, but can be adapted.

• Visit Indiana 4th Grade SS Curriculum – IOTD – interactive, six-week course for 4th graders. – In use already by 100 teachers.

• State of Indiana Timeline with focus on Warren County• Living History Day – Benton County
