HOUNDS MAUL BEARS On a sunny Tuesday morning with temperatures hovering in the mid-50's, NBC started the 2013 campaign with a resounding 11-0 victory that only lasted 6 innings. The Hounds completely dominated Delran. The fans had barely settled into their seats and the Hounds were already on the prowl. The Hounds scored 3 runs in the first highlighted by Meghin Stanton's double. In the top of the second Megin Mayernik decided to get her first varsity hit in style with a homerun. She launched an absolute bomb to centerfield. The ball was so high that observers in Philadelphia were probably able to see the towering shot from the top floor or their condominiums. The Hounds brought in two more in the fourth courtesy of a double to leftfield off of the bat of Ashley Zulla. In the sixth inning the Hounds completely broke open the game as they pounded across five more runs. Doubles by Meghin Stanton and Haile Bell highlighted the 6th inning hit parade. While all of the offensive fireworks were going on, Meghin Stanton started the season with a pitching gem. She struck out the first six batters and eight of the first nine. The Bears didn't register a hit until the 5th inning. She was quickly erased as a pickoff play fell into the hands of Rachel Taylor in rightfield. Rachel loaded up her rifle and fired to Kacie Herity who was patiently waiting for the runner to arrive. Stanton finished with 12 strikeouts, a career high, and gave up only one hit. It was a totally dominant performance and served notice to the county and for that matter South Jersey that she is one of the premier pitchers in the area. NOTES: - Megan Mayernik!!!!!! Wow, let's check the record books to see when a freshman has a homerun in their first at-bat as a varsity player. The Mayernik family avoided a fine for not witnessing the shot as they were walking up to the field at the time of the detonation. The Delran outfield had to feel as if they were playing in an arcade game as NBC hitters were pinballing shots to the outfield all day. - Stanton started the year with 78 hits, needing 22 to reach 100 hits for her career. With her two hits today, the countdown is now 20 hits. - Next up for the Hounds will be a Thursday morning game at home against RVRHS who lost to Bordentown on Tuesday 10-6. HOUNDS STIFLE DEVILSA perfect day for a softball game. No winds, temperatures in the 60's and archrival RVRHS on the field. The Hounds were coming off a thrashing of Delran and the Red Devils were looking to break into the win column after a 10-6 loss to Bordentown.

Meghin Stanton started on the mound for NBC. She set the first two batters down, then walked the number three hitter which gave the opportunity for Alexis Gaskill to come to the plate. Gaskill hit a line drive to Katie Barron in left field which was caught by Barron to retire the side.

The Hounds came to the plate in the bottom of the first and Kacie Herity and Meghin Stanton led off with singles, Ashley Zulla produced an RBI single on a drive to the outfield. After a walk to Rachel Taylor loaded the bases, Haile Bell once again produced in the clutch with an 2-run single which scored Stanton and Zulla. The three runs would prove more than enough with Stanton on the mound.

Stanton did not give up a hit until the fifth inning. The Red Devils had runners on second and third with their lead-off hitter up. Stanton was masterful in her approach as she struck her out with some stone cold nasty stuff (grrrrrrrr). She finished up the pitching gem by allowing only one other opponent to reach base.

NOTES: - Stanton has now thrown two shutouts, allowed a total of 3 hits and registered 20 strikeouts. ARE YOU KIDDING?????? DA-DA-DUM DA-DA-DUM. - The Hounds defense was outstanding. Megan Mayernik should produce a video for Hoover vacuum cleaners with the way she scoops everything in sight. Ashley Zulla had a heads up putout at catcher. Alex Zulla fired a pellet to throw out a runner in the sixth. Katie Barron made an outstanding running catch off the bat of Alexis Gaskill. Stanton completely baffled Gaskill on the same at-bat. - Haile Bell has been a human RBI machine notching 5 in her first two games. - Next up for the Hounds will be a Friday Night Lights game against Florence.

HOUNDS LOSE THRILLER TO FLASHESThe base umpire said it best: "This game is like a state playoff game with the intensity and number of outstanding plays." From the beginning of the game, it was evident that this was going to be a war. The game was played on a Friday night in Florence before several hundred loud and excited fans. If one paid money to come to this one, they got their money's worth.

Scoreless inning after scoreless inning registered on the scoreboard. Who would give in first? What team would find a way to claw out a run? Both teams had opportunities.

In the bottom of the first, the Flashes stranded two runners on base. In the top of the second, Alex Zulla blistered a triple to rightfield to lead off the inning but the Hounds were not able to capitalize. In the bottom of the third, the Flashes loaded the bases but Meghin Stanton struck out the batter to retire the side. In the top of the fourth, the Hounds had two runners on with no outs and were not able to score. In the top of the fifth, the Hounds had Kacie Herity on first via a walk. Meghin Stanton followed with a bullet to right center for a double but Herity was thrown out trying to score.

So it went, two talented teams looking for some way to score. The seventh inning would prove to be that inning. Rachel Taylor lined a double in the gap. Haile Bell moved her to third on a groundout which brought Megan Mayernik to bat with one out. Coach Corcoran called a timeout and asked Megan if she could lay down a suicide squeeze. With the steely gaze of a gunfighter ready to go to battle, Mayernik assured the coach that it would be done. Sure enough on the third pitch, on a 1-1 count, Megan, with ice in her veins, delivered as promised and Rachel Taylor scampered home with the first run of the night.

In the bottom of the seventh, Stanton struck out the first batter with her 8th strikeout of the evening. After a walk, a double off of the bat of the third batter scored the tying run. The Flashes scored one more to end the battle.

NOTES: - Stanton was once again brilliant on the mound. In three games she has given up one earned run, six hits, and 28 strikeouts. The Hounds will be in any game that they play this year. That is MITB (money-in-the-bank). - This was a great test for NBC. Florence is coming off a year where they were one of the top Group 1 schools in the state. - Shaye Santos put on a display in centerfield that might get her an appointment as Secretary of Defense. After snaring a fly ball in the first, she made an even more spectacular play in the fifth. The umpire was so astounded that his only words were DA-DA-DUM DA-DA-DUM. It was certainly ESPN play of the day worthy.

- After the game the Coach of Florence said, "Wow, I am glad that we don't play you again." - This is a game that, hopefully, the Hounds can use to build on. Playing before a boisterous and hostile crowd and being in an intense pressure-cooker environment is something that playoff caliber teams use to catapult them to the next level. - Next up for the Hounds will be a league tilt against Pennsauken, a new addition to the BCSL.

NBC VICTORIOUS OVER PENNSAUKENWarm weather finally arrived on a beautiful Tuesday for softball. This was the first time that NBC had ever played Pennsauken so the Hounds were not sure what to expect.

It wasn't until the third inning that the Hounds scratched the scoring column. The Hounds had four consecutive hits to score four runs in the inning. The highlights were back-to-back doubles by Ashley Zulla and Rachel Taylor.

Morgan Clauser had her first start of the 2013 season and threw high octane gas all day. She didn't allow a hit until the fifth inning. She would finish the day with seven strikeouts, while giving up two hits and one unearned run.

The Hounds tacked on another run in the fourth when Meghin Stanton stroked a pitch over the rightfield fence. The ball cleared the fence by a good 20 feet. It was definite heavy duty YARD WORK. Two local South Jersey airports called NBC to identify what they picked up on radar.

In the bottom of the sixth, Shaye Santos jumped on a pitch and tomahawked her first basehit of the season to right center. When the dust had settled, Santos was on third base with a triple. On a ball misplayed by the infield, Santos came home with the sixth run.

NOTES: - Clauser pitched a nearly flawless game. She threw 71 pitches and only 16 were balls. The game was played in just over an hour. - The Hounds had seven hits and five went for extra bases. Miss Hoover aka Megan Mayernik has supposedly been contacted by Dyson to do a demo on picking up anything in sight. She has put on a clinic at second base. - Stanton's blast may have cleared the deep RVRHS fence. Some of the credit for her bomb may have to go to her new boyfriend, Rocco. - Next up for NBC will be a Thursday game at Bordentown. The Scotties are a dangerous team who blitzed RVRHS last week 10-6. The Scotties will be looking to show that their victory was no fluke. The Hounds will be able to add to their early season surge with a win at the turf field of Bordentown. Last year the Scotties prevailed on a night game at NBC 3-2.

DAWGS POUND SCOTTIESNBC traveled to Bordentown to play against their next door neighbor on the Scotties' all-turf field. The Scotties came into this game undefeated and having already beaten RVRHS. This promised to be a nail biter as two of the better teams in Burlington County faced off against each other.

The Hounds wasted no time in getting things started in the 1st inning as Herity and Stanton reached base. The big hit of the inning was Rachel Taylor's deep drive to left field which resulted in a double for Taylor.

The score remained 2-0 until the fifth when Shaye Santos led off the inning with shot that left a vapor trail in its wake. She scored when Kacie Herity laid down a beautiful bunt which was then misplayed by the defense.

Meanwhile, Meghin Stanton was holding the Scotties hitless until the fifth inning. Bordentown scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the inning to narrow the gap to 4-2.

The Hounds scored a run in the sixth and finished out the scoring in the 7th when Stanton airmailed a homerun over the left centerfield fence.

The Hounds had some excellent defensive plays. In the second inning Kacie Herity tracked a ball into leftfield better than the latest Air Force missile system. In the fourth inning, Bordentown reached first via an error. The next batter bunted and Alex Zulla threw the runner out. When the lead runner tried to go to third, Meredith Taylor fired to Ashley Zulla who ran from behind the plate and was having none of that. Zulla had time to have a mini discussion with sis on their dinner plans before applying the tag.

Next up for The Hounds is West Deptford on Monday. The Hounds have four games next week all on the road. The "wheels on the bus go round and round."

NOTES: - Megan Mayernik has a new sponsor - Bounty -the quicker picker upper. - The Bordentown Board of Education has sent a bill to NBC for the fence repair necessary after Shaye's double. - After Meghin's bomb, Philadelphia International Airport has declared Bordentown as a no-fly zone. - Shaye has some fans thinking that she reminds them of another famous centerfielder and have applied the nickname, Shaye-hey kid. - Mayernik had her first three-hit game as a varsity player. - Stanton hit her second homerun in two games. For the year Meghin is blistering the ball with 10 hits and an eye-popping 6 for extra bases

HOUNDS FALL TO EAGLESNBC traveled to West Deptford to play the undefeated Eagles. The Eagles will battle against Haddon Heights for supremacy in the Colonial Conference. The Hounds faced a pitcher who threw gas but was not consistent in throwing strikes. Nevertheless the Hounds struggled against West Deptford. The Hounds started the first inning with Meredith Taylor reaching base by an error and after a walk to Ashley Zulla, the Hounds had a runner in scoring position. The Hounds were not able to capitalize on this. In the second inning Haile Bell scorched a 3-2 changeup into deep centerfield. Again the Hounds left a runner stranded in scoring position. Rachel Taylor, who had good at bats all afternoon, singled in the fourth but didn't advance from there. The Eagles were, meanwhile being held scoreless as Meghin Stanton only gave up one hit through three innings. In the fourth the Eagles scored two runs on three hits. That would be all that they would need. The Hounds threatened in the sixth when Meghin Stanton led off the inning with a single. Meredith Taylor followed with a sharply hit ball that was unfortunately fielded by the shortshop to snuff out the rally. NOTES-The Hounds had eight strikeouts and took a number of strikes against the pitcher. The Hounds continue their road trip with a Tuesday game against Willingboro, Thursday against New Egypt and Friday against Cinnaminson.

HOUNDS HANDLE 'BORONBC visited Willingboro on a sunny Tuesday afternoon. The Hounds were able to handle the Chimeras as the Boro pitchers had trouble finding the strike zone and walked 15 batters. That coupled with 12 hits made it a long afternoon for the home team.

The Hounds loaded the bases in the first on three bases-on-balls and Ashley Zulla came up and hit a triple to center to clear the bases. The Dawgs scored a total of eight runs in the first inning to set the tone for the day. All twelve of the Hounds reached base and NBC racked up twelve hits.

Morgan Clauser recorded her second win of the season as she handcuffed the Chimeras on two hits. Clauser had nine strikeouts in the five inning shortened game.

NOTES: - This was a difficult game to use as a gauge. NBC was constantly in positions where they were, perhaps, only getting at most one good pitch to hit in an at-bat. - Shaye Santos had a double to go along with Zulla's triple as the extra base hits for NBC. Shaye boomed her double after fouling off 8 pitches. - Meredith Taylor was MITB behind the plate as she threw out 3 baserunners trying to steal. One of the victims was Ashley Lewis who may be one of the fastest runners in the County. Meredith also had three hits on the day. A trifecta for MT. - The Hounds were a bit sloppy in the field as they had four errors. They need to clean their defensive selves up for Thursday's game against New Egypt.

WARRIORS CRY WHO LET THE DAWGS OUT AS NBC ROMPS TO VICTORYThis was probably the biggest game of the season thus far. Keep in mind that New Egypt had won back to back state titles in 2010 and 2011 and had reached the state final in 2012. They had also won their league championship for six consecutive years. New Egypt had lost only one game thus far this year. Although it was a 10-0 defeat to Washington Twp.in the Mount Holly Elite Tournament, Washington Twp. had just been ranked Number 2 in the state of New Jersey. Coach Corcoran had not defeated the Warriors during her tenure as coach at NBC. With this as a backdrop and with rain falling as fans reached their seats, the outlook looked bleak for the visitors.

Like a pack of ravenous dawgs stalking their prey, the rabid Hounds ravaged New Egypt and tore up the script. NBC completely dismantled the Warriors. From the opening bell, NBC played aggressive softball. In the first inning, Kacie Herity started the game with a single. Meghin Stanton followed with a double and the table was set for the Dawgs to commence with the feeding frenzy. After Meredith Taylor singled, Ashley Zulla and Rachel Taylor followed with back to back doubles. The Hounds had a four run lead to open up the game. The Hounds added two more in the top of the second as they peppered out three more hits.

Meghin Stanton was keeping the Warriors off of the bases as she only allowed one hit in the first three innings. In the bottom of the third the Warriors started to threaten with one out and a runner on first base. The second hitter in the lineup hit a line drive that had base hit written all over it. Megan Mayernik snared the line drive like a lion pouncing on a piece of raw meat. She then fired to Meredith Taylor at first base to complete the double play.

This game was definitely the coming out party for Kacie Herity as the leadoff hitter. She started rallies with three base hits. Like an old boyfriend who can’t take the hint, Kacie was a nuisance to the Warriors.

Stanton was not her sharpest on the mound but she continued to pitch well enough to not allow any big innings while only giving up five hits. The

Warriors managed to get on the scoreboard in the fourth inning with two runs. The Dawgs added two more in the fifth with three more hits. This was huge for the Hounds as they answered the attempt by New Egypt to close the gap.

The play that probably echoed what this team is about most was Meghin Stanton being aggressive on the bases and trying to score in the fifth. She was thrown out but Dawg refused to make it an easy out and barreled into the catcher to try to dislodge the ball. This was an aggressive and totally clean play. Stanton has infused this team with a confidence and a grit that has resonated as the season has picked up steam. NBC now has a swagger that is telling other teams that we are here to play hard and we are here to win.

If there was any doubt about the outcome of this game, it was put to rest in the seventh inning. With two runners on base, Flight 29 was cleared for takeoff from New Egypt. Alex Airlines had an in flight movie, “The Natural” as it landed in Monmouth County for a three run homerun.

NOTES: - Are you Kiddin’ Da-Da-Dum Da-Da-Dum. WOW!!!!! Where do you start? Last year the Hounds visited New Egypt and had to be involved in a lock down because of a prison break. This year it was a Hound Attack. The local Animal Control went on alert after reports of a Hound attack at the High School. - The Hounds had the Warriors playing fetch in the outfield. Scoop Mayernik was at it again with her double play partner Kacie Herity in the sixth. A ground ball to LM, a perfect throw to Herity and on to Taylor for a textbook double play. - FedEx is looking for advice from Meredth Taylor as she is efficiently grabbing any throws that are in her zip code. - Mayernik is adding to her list of sponsors as reports are that Smylies will have a new flavor next month in honor of her called “the double play”. - Here are some numbers to savor for the Hounds. Sixteen base hits, six walks or a total of twenty-two base runners. The way the Hounds were running the bases it looked like Saturday Night at the New Egypt Motor Speedway. - When the New Egypt coach came out in the fifth inning to argue the play at the plate, it showed the frustration of the home team and how the Hounds had totally gotten into the heads of the opposition. New Egypt was more concerned with other factors and did not focus on the game. - This was a total team effort by the Dawgs. Rumors are that the track team moved the practice for fear of getting pelted by softballs off the bats of NBC. New Egypt is sending a bill to NBC for damage to the plywood fences off the bats of the Hounds. - Stanton was 4 for 4 and Ashley and Alex Zulla combined for NINE RBIs. Alex Zulla's rocket attack might force Plumsted Township to move back the fences. - The addition of Coach Heiser has been a tremendous asset for the entire team and especially for the pitchers and catchers. He has developed a game plan on how to pitch to hitters in situations. The battery is gaining more and more confidence as the season progresses. His scouting reports on the opposition have already had several teams paralyzed in their prepration. - Next up for the Hounds a Friday afternoon game at Cinnaminson.

HOUNDS SINK PIRATES IN DRAMATIC FASHION IN 7TH INNINGA day removed from a signature win against New Egypt, NBC faced what appeared on paper to be a weaker opponent. The Hounds had been featured in the Trentonian in an extremely positive fashion. The coach of New Egypt went so far as to say that NBC was "one of the best teams in the county." A very classy comment by a coach after a devastating defeat. With this victory still resonating with the Dawgs, they traveled to Cinnaminson on a bus ride that lasted forever.

The Hounds appeared to be right on track as they scored in the top of the first with three baserunners. The Hounds probably had visions of the Pirates pulling in the oars and leaving for another port. This was not to be the case on this afternoon. The Pirates tied the score in the first as they made good use of their baserunners.

In the fourth the Hounds flexed their muscles with a four run inning as they bunched five hits, the highlight being Alex Zulla's double. The Hounds quickly found that there was no quit in their opponent as they scored in the bottom of the fourth. The Hounds scored another run in the fifth inning as Rachel Taylor doubled in the inning. Surely that would be enough to submerge their pesky rivals.

That would not be the reality on this day as Cinnaminson scored eight runs in the bottom of the fifth. At one point in the inning the Pirates reached base eight consecutive times. The Hounds who a day ago were the bomb-diggity against New Egypt simply bombed in this inning. They committed five errors and allowed the Pirates to take an eleven to six lead.

Down by five runs in the top of the sixth, the question arose as to what these dawgs who prowled the New Egypt countryside a day before would do when down by five runs with six outs left in the till. As the Hounds gathered prior to their at bat in the sixth inning Meg Stanton showed why she is no doubt the premier leader in South Jersey. Stanton told the dawgs that they could come back. Folks, if you want to go to battle, this is who you want leading your charge. This team was picked up on the shoulders of Stanton as she set the compass to victory.

NBC scored one run in the sixth to close the gap to four runs. The Hounds held the Pirates in the sixth and came to bat in the seventh down by four runs. An insurmountable deficit to some but as Coach Corcoran said to the team prior to coming to bat in the seventh, "let's see what we are made of. If we want to be considered one of the premier teams in South Jersey we will face this situation during the year." Ashley Zulla took this advice as she

went to bat and started the inning with a double. Rachel Taylor followed with a double and the Hounds were down three and barking at the door of victory. LM worked a walk off the pitcher and the tying run came to plate with Alex Zulla coming to bat. Zulla delivered with a basehit and the Hounds were down by one run with Zulla on base and Shaye Santos up to bat. The count went to 3-2 and the Pirates went to their fourth pitching change of the afternoon. Rumors are that Santos practiced some Far-Eastern ritualistic chant to achieve nirvana. This may or not be true. What is fact is that on the next pitch, Shaye delivered a Cinna-bomb. Puhleeease, the ball left the park faster than a LM to Herity to MT double play. This wasn't your moon shot homerun. Oh,no this was like a ninja assassain out on maneuvers. Quick and deadly. The homerun gave the Hounds a 12-11 lead and they went into the seventh trying to protect the one run lead.

The lead runner for Cinnaminson reached base by a walk but the Hounds retired the next three batters to seal their seventh victory.

NOTES: - Although the Hounds were sloppy at times, the part of the game that must be stored for future use is how resilient this team is. Down four runs in the seventh inning and the Hounds believed in themselves. This team has a belief in itself that is gaining more and more momentum. - Huge high fives for Stanton for refusing to let the Dawgs savor anything but the aroma of victory. Again and again she pleaded, coerced and led the team to victory. She is MITB. - Reports are out of Cinnaminson that there will be a special parade next Saturday with Shaye Santos singing . "Oh,Shaye can you see" in honor of her pellet that left the field more rapidly than Kacie Herity switches dance routines. - Once again the Zulla attack was potent. Ashley was 4 for 4 and Alex was 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs. - Rachel Taylor contributed 2 doubles while Stanton and Meredith Taylor had two hits. - As close as the score of the game was, here are some interesting snippets. The Hounds had 15 hits and four walks for 19 baserunners, a two game total of 41 baserunners. These are Madden fantasy football stats. Conversely, the Pirates were only able to muster 6 hits against the Dawgs. - Next up for NBC is a Wednesday game against Moorestown who defeated previously undefeated Burlington Twp. 6-1. NBC split with Moorestown last year. This will be the last divisional opponent to be played in the first round.

TAYLOR MADE VICTORY GIVES QUAKERS FITS

NBC traveled to Moorestown to complete the first round of league play against the Quakers. Moorestown came into the game with only one loss and featured one of the best pitchers in Burlington County, Audrey Weller. Obviously, she may be okay but she is no Meghin Stanton. Coach Heiser had scouted the Quakers against Burlington Township last Friday and had constructed a game plan to attack the Quakers. The Hounds wanted to unleash the dawgs early and often to disrupt the fung shui of the home team.

The Hounds sprinted out of the gate in the first inning as Meghin Stanton roped a single which was followed by a double from Meredith Taylor that left her bat so fast that two engineers from neighboring Lockheed Martin were called in to investigate. Ashley Zulla followed with an RBI single and the Dawgs had registered their first run of the game.

Stanton struck out the side in the first inning and continued to hold the Quakers off of the bases in the early part of the game.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Hounds manufactured a run after a single from Rachel Taylor and a base-on-balls to Alex Zulla. Megan Mayernik sacrificed the runners to second and third. Haile Bell came to the plate and delivered a clutch sacrifice fly to right field that gave NBC another run. Four hits in the fifth inning produced another run for the Hounds.

On the mound, Stanton had only given up one hit through four innings. In the fifth inning, the leadoff hitter tried to bring the Quakers back with a base hit up the middle. Megan Mayernik dove to try to stop the ball but it eluded her glove. Mayernik once again showed that she covers more ground than a door-to-door salesman on a busy day. After an out, Moorestown loaded the bases with their number five and six hitters up. Stanton went to 3-1 on the five hitter and promptly blew two pitches by the stunned Quaker. Again Stanton went to 3-1 to the next batter and went right after the hitter with two called strikes. Bases loaded, one out, the Quakers trying to make a run at the Hounds and Stanton rears back and stems the tide. I tell you what folks, Stanton is a Gladiator. Take that heart, determination, and unwavering belief in herself, package it, sell it on eBay, and watch the money roll in. MITB.

The Quakers broke their scoring drought in the sixth as they scored a run. After scoring one run, Moorestown had their hitter bunt the ball with two runners on base. The batter bunted, Meg picked it up and threw to Meredith Taylor who recorded the out. The Moorestown coach tried to have his runner on third score. Taylor fired home to Ashley Zulla. Ashley had enough time to fire up the grill for Thursday nights festivities, dip several chips into salsa, take a drink of Gatorade and still make the tag before looking over the dessert possibilities.

In the top of the seventh, the Dawgs added two more runs to give them five for the game. That would be the final score as the Quakers had enough of the hit barrage from the Hounds and went down one, two, three in the seventh. 12 hits against the touted Audrey Weller. Puhleeeease.

NOTES:

- Next up for the Hounds is a Thursday night game against Maple Shade. The Hounds have never played Maple Shade under Coach Corcoran. - The team will retire to Panera’s after school for their pregame meal, while the parents of the Hounds are reported to be planning a tailgating meal prior to the game. - Stanton gave up only three hits on the afternoon. - The Hounds are putting up Stone Cold Nasty offensive numbers. Over the last four games the Dawgs have dialed up 55 hits. Those are T-ball numbers. - Look for some endorsements to come the way of Meredith and Rachel. They were 7 for 8 on the day. Possibly Taylor Rental will have them advertise some of the tractors that they have on display in their Moorestown branch. They are FFA approved. - The importance of this game cannot be overemphasized. The Hounds are now undefeated after one round of play. They need to play all of the teams in their league (RVRHS, New Egypt, Pennsauken, and Moorestown) one more time along with Pemberton and Burlington Twp. They now control their own destiny. New Egypt has one loss, Moorestown two, and RVRHS three. Stay tuned.

HOUNDS PANCAKE MAPLE SHADE

After six consecutive road games, the Hounds were happy to savor some home cooking. While the Hounds were out at Panera, Mr. Taylor and Mr. Stanton fired up the grills for the first home night game of the season. It was actually only the third home game of the season.

The Wildcats featured Brittany Granahan who had been highlighted in the BCT as one of the five players in the county to watch for the 2013 season.

Maple Shade started the game with a base hit and the runner was advanced to second. The next batter hit a pop up between third and home plate. After the Zullas did rock-paper-scissors to see who would catch the ball, the runner on second tried to reach third after the catch which ended the inning with a double play. The Zullas shook their head in disbelief that someone would dare test them. Must have been a rookie on the basepaths. (First rodeo)

The Hounds started the bottom of the first with Kacie Herity lacing a pitch to leftfield which resulted in a lead off double. When Meghin Stanton walked, the Hounds appeared to be off and running again to start a game. The Wildcats managed to get out of the inning without a run being scored.

Stanton retired six of the next seven batters with five coming via the K. The game moved into the bottom of the third in a scoreless tie.

The Dawgs had been tamed with only one hit and the crowd was waiting for the famed Dawg Attack. They didn’t have to wait any longer. With the sun setting and darkness arriving, the Dawgs might have better been named the Vampires, because the night certainly brought them to life. Shaye Santos led off the inning with her second homerun of the season. This was a longer shot then the Cinna-bomb and sent the fans in centerfield scurrying for cover like a group of worker bees when their nest is attacked. Kacie Herity got her second hit of the evening which brought Meghin Stanton to the plate. Stanton drove a pitch to centerfield that cleared the fence by at least 30 feet. There have been space shuttles that didn’t stay up as long as that ball. RV's fence would not have survived that ball. After Meredith Taylor doubled and Ashley Zulla singled, Rachel Taylor came to the plate and did her Gwen Stefani impersonation. Because when the ball left the bat there was No Doubt. The three run homerun by Rachel was her first ever. The scoreboard in centerfield was not operating on this gorgeous night. No need to with the fireworks display by the Vampires er……Dawgs in the third inning. Three homeruns in one inning. After the game several NASA workers came over to see if there was a launching pad at NBC.

Maple Shade tried to come back in the top of the fourth as the first hitter hit a line drive that was headed for centerfield. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, Stanton did her best imitation of Mr. Miyagi catching a fly with chopsticks as she gobbled up the ball. The Hounds scored two more in the fourth as Meghin Stanton and Ashley Zulla ripped doubles and Rachel Taylor had a sacrifice fly for her fourth RBI of the night.

The Wildcats scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth as they managed to get four hits off of Stanton. That would be all of the scoring of the evening for the Wildcats.

In the bottom of the sixth, Meghin Stanton came to the plate. She pulverized the first pitch to centerfield for a homerun. This is something that could be picked up by a studio for a movie. The homerun was Stanton’s 100th hit of her career. As she rounded the bases, the Hounds were on their knees pounding home plate led by Kacie Herity with a sign celebrating the event. She joins Dara Schroeder in the exclusive 100 hit club at NBC. The game was stopped as pictures were taken and flowers were given to Stanton. After the festivities the Hounds scored another run.

Stanton went out in the seventh and retired the Wildcats in order.

NOTES: - A perfect evening for a softball game. - Four homeruns in one game. Are you kidding? There have been some years where the Hounds haven’t hit four homeruns. There was enough power displayed to recharge a depleted Iron Man. Thirteen hits and eight were extra base hits. - A huge crowd was on hand to cheer on the Dawgs. The girls lacrosse team was there to show their support. As the fans in centerfield started to

cheer, Glory Days himself led the cheers. That's right - Dave Pandl, an avid supporter of Northern softball whipped up the fans to a frenzy with "Who Let the Dawgs Out" echoing from the crowd. Nice job, Dave - stay with us, we have more in store this year. - The night was punctuated by the aroma of hamburgers and hot dawgs wafting in the night air. Well done, parents. - Onlookers watched when Meghin Stanton searched for Pops and Max in the crowd to pose for a picture. Some thought that Pops was doing a scene from Baywatch when he entered the field. - Next week the Dawgs need to pack their bags again as they have six games, all on the road. The Hounds are on the road more than a carnival in the summer. The Dawgs should get frequent flyer miles from the school. By the end of next week they will be able to redeem them for their choice of a Xeno bat(the Zullas bat of choice) or the Rocket Tech. a.k.a. Rocco (weapon now endorsed by Meghin Stanton) for everyone on the team. MT is looking for a non cracked model. - Several classy moments that need to be reported... The Maple Shade coach was positive with her team during the entire evening. When the game was held up for Stanton's 100th hit, she commented that Meghin was deserving of the celebration and she wished her good luck. Class act. Tommy Moorehouse who has umpired a number of Meghin Stanton’s games shook hands with Meghin after the game and said that it was an honor to umpire on the night when Meghin would reach her 100th hit. You're the man, blue. - A final thought on Stanton... Three for three with a double and two homeruns to reach 100. Does anyone need a script for a movie? As good a night as it gets on so many levels.

HOUNDS LOSE IN NINTH INNING TO NOTTINGHAMThe day started with the possibility that there would be no game because of rain the day before and rain again in the forecast for Tuesday. The day turned out to be a sunny day with light winds blowing out. The Hounds started the first inning with a base hit from Meredith Taylor using her

DeMarini for the first time in a game. That would be the last hit for the Hounds until the fourth inning. Nottingham’s pitcher was able to keep the potent NBC hitters off balance through seven innings. The Hounds had chances but were not able to capitalize on them. The Dawgs had two runners on in the fourth inning and another one in the fifth but couldn’t bring them home. NBC was finally able to score in the top of the sixth inning as two Nottingham errors allowed the Hounds to take a lead into the bottom of the sixth inning. Meghin Stanton retired the first fourteen batters that she faced. The Northstars finally notched a hit off of Meghin in the fifth inning with two outs. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the ninth hitter hit a double which was followed by a one out single that brought in the tying run. Both teams were retired in order in the seventh inning and the Hounds faced extra innings for the first time all year. In the top of the 8th inning the Northstars brought in another pitcher who had more speed that the first pitcher. The Hounds had two hits in the 8th but were not able to score. In the top of the ninth, Megan Mayernik led off with a base hit which was followed by a great sacrifice bunt from Haile Bell but the Hounds couldn’t score the go ahead run. In the bottom of the ninth with one out, Nottingham got a one out single and a walk-off double to win the game. NOTES- Meredith Taylor had three hits for the Hounds and Ashley Zulla added two hits. Rachel Taylor displayed her fielding as she threw out two sure base hits with aggressive scoops and two bullet throws. She just missed the trifecta in the fifth when Nottingham got their first hit as Rachel’s throw was just a smidge late to her sis Meredith. The Hounds had eight hits and eleven base runners but were only able to score one run. This game was eerily similar to the Florence game where the Hounds took the lead only to see it evaporate at the hands of the opposition. A similar score and once again the Hounds had more hits and base runners than their opponents. Meghin Stanton pitched an outstanding game giving up only five hits while not walking a batter and having a 4-1 strike to ball ratio. She was around the plate all day. A tough loss for the Hounds, In their three losses they have lost by a total of 4 runs. The Hounds need to pick up the pieces from this game, learn from their mistakes and then totally focus on a huge tilt on Friday against archrival RVRHS. This will be a great opportunity for NBC to rebound and prove to themselves that this was a temporary setback. There is not doubt that the HOUNDS will rise to the challenge on Friday

HOUNDS SWEEP RED DEVILS EXORCISE DEMONSThe Hounds traveled to Eastampton to begin the second round of play in the league against their arch rivals, the Red Devils of Rancocas Valley. The Devils had just come off a key victory against Moorestown while NBC was still smarting from their 2-1 loss to Nottingham on Tuesday. This game had a number of consequences. A win by RVRHS would keep their slender hopes of a Division title alive. The Hounds could ill afford a loss as New Egypt is still close behind in the standings with only one loss to the Hounds who are undefeated in league play. To add more to this rivalry is the history at so many levels between these two opponents. With all of this on the table the two squared off against each other. With one out in the first inning, Meghin Stanton tripled down the left field line. Rachel Taylor brought home the first run of the game with a single up the middle. In the second inning Megan Mayernik singled, Haile Bell walked and Kacie Herity singled bringing up senior captain Meghin Stanton to the plate to try to extend the lead. Stanton, as has been the case all year delivered when needed. Las Vegas refuses to take bets if Stanton is in position to deliver. No one will bet against her. It is MITB. Stanton, as advertised, delivered with a base clearing triple and the Dawgs were pawing their way to a 5-0 lead after two innings. NBC upped the lead to 6-0 in the fourth as Meredith Taylor delivered an RBI single. RVRHS cut the lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the fifth. The score remained that way until the top of the seventh when once again Mayernik and Bell set the table for the rest of the lineup. This time Kacie Herity delivered with a booming triple to left field which sent Mayernik and Bell galloping around the bases like two thoroughbreds in the Kentucky Derby. RVRHS scored three meaningless runs in the seventh to make the final score 9-4. NOTES-The Hounds coupled eleven hits with six base on balls and two hit batters to register nineteen base runners. Kacie Herity led the way with three hits in an outstanding display of being a legitimate lead off hitter. Some fans say that her triple in the seventh could have been yard work at the friendly confines of Dawg Stadium. Stanton and the Taylor sisters added two hits apiece. Stanton added four RBI’s for the Dawgs. She also scattered eight hits and after a leadoff walk, did not walk a batter. The Hounds continually pressured RVRHS all afternoon. They had at least two runners on in six of the seven innings. This was a signature win for the Hounds. This was the first time since Coach Corcoran has been at NBC that the Hounds swept the series. The Hounds remain undefeated in league play. From Jump Street, this was a game that the Hounds craved more than the lollipops that grandpa supplies at the end of the game. Watch this team play and you can see what true high school softball is all about. There is a true chemistry with this team. They care about each other and constantly support each other. There is absolutely no finger pointing at teammates-they have each others backs. Several post game comments illustrate this. Ashley Zulla said that she wanted to get mad but that was not possible with her teammates constantly keeping her uplifted. Coach Heiser said that he was happy for a team where good things happen to good kids. Meghin Stanton said that she was so proud to play with a team that played such great defense. You want to talk about defense???? Where do you want to start? Kacie Herity playing at shortstop as if she is auditioning for a tryout with Barnum and Bailey Circus as an acrobat. How about Alex Zulla getting to more balls than a wide receiver covered by Nnamdi Asmougha. What about Shaye Santos living up to her name "Secretary of Defense" with a shoe string catch to rob RVRHS of a sure basehit. This defense was as smooth as velvet. Everyone contributed defensively in this game. Ashley Zulla has become a vocal leader behind the plate. She barks orders like a Marine drill sergeant with a new crop of recruits to train. The young Hounds -aka- the JV avenged an earlier loss to RV as Coach Shtino had his team fired up as they produced five runs in the top of the ninth to take a 7-2 victory. Coach Shtino punctuated the day on the bus ride back to Columbus by producing a broom and started a rollicking rendition of SWEEP. You Go Coachie. The Hounds travel to Allentown on Saturday to play round robin against Peddie and Allentown. Next week is a huge week for the Hounds as they play five games in five days. League games against Pennsauken, Moorestown, Burlington Township and New Egypt and a BCSL tournament quarterfinal game against Maple Shade. Mark that New Egypt game on your calendar. It will be Friday night under the lights. Get your seats early as this will be a must see game with the grills being fired up by the crew. Mr. Taylor will continue to assume his position as head chef now that his tongs have been rescued.

HOUNDS SPLIT AT ALLENTOWN TOURNAMENTThe Allentown Tournament was supposed to feature four of the top teams in the area –Allentown, NBC, Peddie and Bishop Ahr. Bishop Ahr pulled out at the last minute and reporter Rick Fortenbough discovered that they decided at the last minute to enter another tournament. This tournament had to be changed and NBC played Peddie at 3:30 followed by a game against Allentown. This recap will encompass both games for the day. In the first game the Hounds played a Peddie school which had a record of 11-2 and was ranked just below NBC in the area softball ranking according to the Trentonian. The Dawgs wasted no time in unleashing their attack as they scored three runs in the bottom of the first as a base on balls to Kacie Herity and consecutive singles by Meg Stanton, Meredith Taylor and Ashley Zulla resulted in three runs. Singles by Stanton, Ashley Zulla, and Rachel Taylor produced another run in the fourth. The single run in the fourth would prove to be decisive in this Saturday afternoon game. Meghin Stanton pitched into the fifth inning without giving up a run. Peddie scored two runs in the fifth to narrow the margin. The damage could have been more but on a hit to the right field fence, Rachel Taylor rifled a throw to Megan Mayernik who then gunned it to Ashley Zulla to cut down a Peddie runner trying to score. Previously endorsed by Bounty as the quicker picker upper, Mayernik has brought Rachel Taylor on board as the two are now known as the Bounty Hunters as they hunt down wayward runners.Peddie sored once more in the sixth to come to within a run. In the top of the seventh Peddie got their lead runner on and then sacrificed her to second but Meghin Stanton would not be denied and she struck out the number two hitter for the second out and then finished off the game by getting the number three hitter to fly out to right field. Two big wins in two days. RVRHS on Friday and now a game where the Dawgs held a one run advantage heading into the seventh. The last two times the Hounds had done that they had lost to Florence and Nottingham. This time the Hounds beat a top team in the area by holding onto the lead. Apropriately Meghin Stanton's favorite saying is "DAWG" and she took the saying a step further as deputy dawg handcuffed the Peddie lineup throughout the game. In the second game NBC faced Allentown which is ranked number four in the area by the Trentonian and last year was one of the top teams in Central Jersey. The Hounds had their work cut out for them. The Redbirds came out flying in the first inning as they scored three runs. That would prove to be the pattern of the day as Allentown scored in six of the seven innings. The lead by the fifth inning became 11-1. As most teams in this

position, Allentown believed that they had won the game. They were ready to pack up the grills and send the young ‘uns to bed. Ten run these tractor lovers and send them back to Mansfield. They didn’t count on playing a team that doesn’t know the word quit. The Dawgs scord two runs in the bottom of the fifth. The inning was started by Savannah Bowen who drilled a double to centerfield. Meghin Stanton followed by sizzling a double to right field and Ashley Zulla joined in the double fest with one to leftfield. Keep the grills going because this game is still going. So Allentown adds six more in the top of the sixth to make it 16-3. There that should be enough to send the Dawgs scampering back to their kennels. Once again, Allentown didn’t count on the heart of the Hounds. Megan Mayernik, Shaye Santos, Haile Bell, Meredith Taylor, Ashley Zulla all singled as the Hounds defiantly said, “This game is going seven.” When Rachel Taylor cleared the bases with a double, NBC had closed the gap to 16-8. The score became 20-8 in the seventh but once again the Hounds stuck out their collective chins and said, our turn. As in the sixth Megan Mayernik started the Hound attack, this time with a double and the Dawg Pound was on attack mode. Shaye Santos had her second hit of the game and when Meghin Stanton laced her third double to right field, Allentown must have thought, this team just keeps getting up like "Rocky" against Apollo Creed. They are fighters who just won’t stay down. Meredith Taylor followed with a single to make the final score 20-11. My goodness this was a brawl. 31 runs 33 hits. The Trentonian claimed that there were more hits than Elvis Presley. Katie Barron might want that amended to Justin Bieber. The Hounds actually outhit Allentown 17 to 16. They were clutch all day with their hitting. Actually their clutch hitting should be modified because these Hounds are as automatic as Blue and Grey Night being a hit. Next up a huuuuuge week for the Hounds as they play five games in five days everyone with implications for league or BCSL. NOTES- The tale of two games. The first game showed the ability to hold onto a lead late in the game. The second displayed several other factors. First, Morgan Clauser kept her composure during the entire game. She battled all day against a team which featured some of the best hitters in Central Jersey. Clauser was symbolic of the NBC team in this game. Give me your best shot because I am getting up and coming at you for more. The second is how this team was vocal through to the last out as they were willing to battle one of the top teams toe to toe. The Dawgs pounded out seven doubles against Allenown. Meghin Stanton had three herself. She came in leading the area in doubles with seven and added to that with a double fest. At one time the centerfielder was panting for timeout to stop the Dawg Attack. The marathon two games resulted in the Hounds not getting back to Mansfield until after eight. The freshmen team won the freshmen tournament today as they won three games to capture the title. Congratulations Lil Hounds on your victorious day.

DOUBLES HIGHLIGHT VICTORY OVER PENNSAUKENThe Hounds were on the road again –this time to Pennsauken to begin the week known as “five in five” (five games in five days). The Hounds scalded seven doubles –giving them fifteen in two games. Read that again, fans, 15 in two games. The first inning did not start well for the Dawgs as they went down without a base hit. The second inning was a bit better as Alex Zulla lined a double and then rode home on a RBI single from Megan Mayernik. With two outs in the third inning, the Dawgs unleashed their offensive assault. Doubles by Meghin Stanton, Meredith Taylor and Alex Zulla along with singles by Ashley Zulla and Rachel Taylor brought home three runs. With the Hounds in full attack mode, the bats continued to heat up. In the fifth inning the Hounds hit three consecutive doubles as Katie Barron hit a rope that just missed clearing the fence and wound up as a ground rule double. Rachel Taylor, Meredith Taylor and Alex Zulla also contributed doubles in the inning. For Alex-that would be her third double of the day. Quite an offensive display for the defensive glue at the hot corner. The bomb of the day came courtesy of Meghin Stanton who launched her fifth home run of the year in the fifth. Several motorists on Route 73 claimed there was a green UFO approaching them as they drove home during rush hour. Prior to the game the base umpire approached Assistant Coach Corcoran and indicated that there would be no yard work on this day. He didn’t realize that Stanton wanted to do some gardening on Monday. Defensively, the Hounds did not have much business as Morgan Clauser completely dominated the Indians. Clauser faced 17 batters and had seven strikeouts. She gave up two hits as the ball hissed into Meredith

Taylor’s glove all day. NBC won 11-0 on a shortened game. NOTES- The Hounds continue to assault the Hounds record book with their offensive fireworks. Meredith Taylor had two doubles to go along with the three from Alex Zulla. Alex is lining up a part time job this week where she will be working for Double-Bubble chewing gum. If you took a quick look at the aforementioned umpire who said that today would be a no homerun zone, you might have mistaken him for our own Pops Stanton. Pops was on patrol today as he was tracking down foul balls that cleared the fence. Rumors are that Pennsauken will be asking for more protective gear anytime they play the Hounds. NBC was on the bus for the journey to Pennsauken when a new mascot was unveiled on the back of the bus. That would be the Block Rocker. The Block Rocker has quickly become a team favorite. The sounds of the Dawgs on the way to the game cleared cars off of the road as they thought that the nearby swamps had spawned some kind of mutant varmint. Well, let’s buckle up for the rest of the week. On the schedule for tomorrow will be Moorestown in a rare home game.

HOUNDS SWEEP QUAKERS AND REGISTER 13TH WINHOUNDS SWEEP QUAKERS FOR YEAR

The Hounds finally played their fourth game at home and remained undefeated at home 4-0 with a 7-3 victory over Moorestown. This was a necessary win as the Dawgs remain undefeated in league play with the victory. The Quakers took a lead in the first inning with two base hits. The Hounds responded in the bottom of the first after Meg Stanton was hit for the second time in two days. Perhaps, the Quakers had heard that Deputy Dawg was lights out. After a base hit by Meredith Taylor and Ashley Zulla reaching on a fielder’s choice, Rachel Taylor delivered with a two out double that brought in two runs. Rachel eventually scored on a passed ball to give the Hounds a three to one lead. The lead would expand to 5-1 as

consecutive singles by Kacie Herity, Meg Stanton and Meredith Taylor brought in two runs in the bottom of the second. The Quakers narrowed the margin to 5-3 in the top of the third. The score would remain that way until the bottom of the sixth when Herity led off with her second hit of the game. Meg Stanton then crossed up the shift called by the Moorestown coach by buzzing a double to left center. Ashley Zulla decided to join the double brigade scoring Stanton and making the score 7-3. That would be the final score as NBC registered their 13th win of the year. Meghin Stanton was dominant on the mound as she only gave up four hits and had 11 strikeouts. Four of the strikeouts were on her changeup which she used more than in any game this year. Ashley Zulla did a great job once again calling the game and was aggressive in calling for the changeup. On several of the changeups, Ashley had enough time to run to the parking lot to check for dents in any vehicles, race back to the field and still get there in time to receive the pitch. For the second time this season, Stanton clearly outpitched Audrey Weller who was considered by a number of preseason pundits as the best in the county. Puhleeeeeeeeeease. NOTES- the Hounds are off to a 2-0 start for the week with a BCSL quarterfinal matchup on the docket for Wednesday and Burlington Twp. and New Egypt waiting in the wings later in the week. The Dawgs are relentless as the Dawg attack once again was in full throttle. The Dawgs had base runners on in every inning. They are like a pack of Dawgs attacking their prey at every opportunity. The Hounds are blistering the ball as they racked up ten hits with three of them being doubles. The Dawgs are barking at last year’s record of 48 doubles. Speaking of barking Deputy Dawg is starting to sniff rare air with her offensive totals for the year. She now has 36 hits which places her three behind the record set by Dara Schroeder. Defensively, the Hounds have become an extremely well-oiled machine. The entire team is playing aggressive defense. The Hounds had only one error all day. That was an error on “Pops” Stanton on a foul ball down the line. It was a difficult catch to make with Max running interference, but replays showed that was a play that had to be made. The coach of Moorestown, Bill Mulvohil has been coaching for years at both Moorestown and before at Rowan University. He came up to Coach Corcoran after the game and told her that NBC played the game the way that it should be played and in his opinion, the Hounds are the best team in Burlington County. A huge compliment from an experienced coach and one not given to many compliments

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS PROVIDE BACKDROP FOR THRILLING VICTORYThis was for everything. It was two opponents saying to each other, “Let’s see what you’ve got” This game had a number of different layers. New Egypt had won six consecutive division championships. Their only loss in the league this year had been a 13-2 shellacking at the hands of the Dawg Attack. That game had left a bitter taste in the mouth of the Warriors and there was not doubt that the Warriors would be prepared to seek revenge against NBC. Earlier in the week, an article appeared in the Burlington County Times, indicating that the Hounds were closing in on their first division championship since 2005. That had to grate on the New Egypt team. The Dawgs welcomed the opportunity to play an inspired opponent to show how special these Dawgs are. New Egypt was noisy from the bell sounding Round One in this fight. When the second batter from New Egypt walked to start the game, the Warriors assumed that this was the start of an early rally. Meghin Stanton retired the next eleven batters highlighted by a called third strike on the New Egypt number three hitter. The Hounds scored in the bottom of the third when Shaye Santos led off with a double to left field. A single by Kacie Herity produced the first run of the game. Meghin Stanton followed with a single. While New Egypt recorded a double play on the next play, Kacie Herity “Dougied” home with the second run of the inning. After the two run third, the Dawgs were only able to get three base runners as they relied on pitching and defense to win this nail biter. In the sixth inning, New Egypt would get a run via two base hits. In the top of the seventh, New Egypt had opportunities as they had a base hit to center, followed by a bunt single to put runners on first and second with no outs. Then came the pivotal play of the game. New Egypt bunted for what appeared to be a means to get runners on second and third. They hadn’t counted on Ashley Zulla. She pounced on the ball like a hungry lion looking for a piece of raw meat at feeding time. Ashley got rid of the ball so fast that there was enough time to order a Hamilton Burger and a freeze pop from Mr. Taylor before getting the force out to Kacie Herity covering third. This was a big time play. The Hounds retired the next two batters and the Hounds celebrated the victory. NOTES-This was a victory on a gorgeous night for softball with over 250 fans in attendance. A pumped up crowd saw a great softball game. Great defense highlighted this evening. Alex Zulla is lights out at third base. Meredith Taylor made two spectacular plays at first. In the fourth inning she snared a line drive from the number three hitter like a chef stabbing a burger on the grill. Even bigger was her acrobatic catch of a hit with one out and two runners on in the seventh inning. Meghin Stanton was once again amazing on the mound. She threw 95 pitches with eight strikeouts. In both the sixth and seventh innings with New Egypt threatening, Stanton elevated her game to another level. She has now gone from Deputy Dawg to being looked at as Untouchable. Ashley Zulla and Meghin Stanton seem to have mental telepathy going on between them. They must have been what Kanye West had in mind when he recorded Clique-Clique. Zulla has helped Meghin develop more confidence and the two of them together are a dynamic duo causing ajada for any unsuspecting opponent. Ashley calls a game better than an announcer at Bingo on Saturday Night. During several breaks in the action the fans were led by the infamous one-Dave Pandl leading the spectators in Who Let the Dawgs Out. Once again the barbecue pit was manned by Chef Taylor and his crew which included Mr. Bowen, Mr. Bell, and Pops Stanton. Thanks to the chefs and to all of the other parents who contributed to make this a very special evening. This was perhaps the biggest win in eight years at the Dawg Pound. Next up-Maple Shade on Saturday for a BCSL quarterfinal game.

HOUNDS WIN LIBERTY DIVISION AS THEY CLIP WINGS OF FALCONSThe last time NBC won the Liberty Division was 2005. 2005 –let’s look back-Some of the Hounds players were still making sure that they colored inside the lines. LM was in the midst of getting straight A’s in first grade, Kacie Herity bought her first Michael Jackson cassette, Katie Barron pitched her first no-hitter in rec. ball, Pops Stanton had just bought a used Mercedes Benz and Mr. Taylor had just bought his first shiny new tractor. So let’s fast forward to 2013 and congratulate the 2013 Liberty Division champions, the Northern Burlington Regional High School –Greyhounds. It wasn’t easy but this game clinched the division title. With one game to play in league play, the Hounds are undefeated with a 12-0 record. This team was picked by the Burlington County Times to finish third and now stand one game away from being undefeated. Fans had just nestled into their comfy seats when Kacie Herity led off with a double down the left field line. The Hounds were up and growling. Unfortunately, they couldn’t punch in a run. The Hounds didn’t score until the third inning when the Falcons outfield misplayed two fly balls and the Dawgs scored a run. On the mound Meghin Stanton was painting the outside corner like an artist who just graduated with honors from University of the Arts. Through three innings, Stanton had limited the Falcons to one hit, a double to lead off the second. The next batter sacrificed her to third, but Stanton was overheard saying, “Not today cha-chi.” She promptly struck out the next two batters. In the fourth inning, the Falcons had a runner on second base when a fly ball appeared to be falling into shallow left field for a base hit and a possible run. Dancing With the Stars candidate Kacie Herity performed a maneuver that even judge Len Goodman would have given a 10. After making a highlight film catch, Herity unleashed a throw to Meg Mayernik to complete an improbable double play. ESPN please save room for this play on Top 10 Plays of The Week. The defense came to the rescue again in the fifth when Burlington Twp. had a runner on first base when a ball was hit to Alex Zulla. Alex fired to second to Mayernik and retired the lead runner. Folks, that is what you call shut down defense. Some might call it Guard Dawg Defense. On offense the Hounds were having problems linking base runners together. They finally broke through with an insurance run in the sixth when Megan Mayernik rifled a clutch single to centerfield to score Ashley Zulla. That would be enough on this sunny day that ended the eight year drought. Meghin Stanton wound up with 10 strikeouts and only gave up three hits. Another dominating performance by Stanton. NOTES-The Hounds now sit at 15-4. It is the most victories while Coach Corcoran has been at NBC. The Falcons had defeated the Hounds for two consecutive years on their home field and had come into the game as the leader in their own Division. Kacie Herity led the attack with two base hits both of which were bullets. The Hounds had eleven base runners but once again it was the pitching and Guard Dawg Defense that were the main ingredients for this victory. The Hounds have played lights out defense of late and defense and pitching are the difference in big games.

COME BACK KIDS TAME WILDCATS IN PULSATING VICTORYThe Maple Shade Wildcats came to NBC to avenge an earlier season 10-3 setback. This was the quarterfinal game in the BCSL tournament. NBC had reached this position by virtue of having a bye as the second seed. The Wildcats had been winners over RVRHS in the first round of the tournament. This was an extremely dangerous Maple Shade team. They had proven themselves by defeating RVRHS 12-9 after having been defeated 10-0. They also had a 2-0 victory over New Egypt on their resume. Added to that was the way that they had lost previously to the Hounds. 10-3 in a night game with all of the hoopla surrounding Meghin Stanton’s 100th hit. That should have been motivation for the Wildcats to come out with a vengeance. That didn’t seem to be the case in the early innings as Meghin Stanton struck out six of the first seven batters. It appeared as if Maple Shade would have difficulties reaching Stanton. In the top of the fourth, though, Shade scored a run on three consecutive hits. The damage could have been worse but Megan Mayernik caught a fly ball and then threw to third base to complete an unusual double play. In the top of the fifth inning, the Shaders added two more on the scoreboard as they sent eight batters to the plate. Offensively the Dawgs were facing Maple Shade’s pitcher, Brittany Granahan who pitched out of several early inning jams. The Hounds had runners on second and third in the first inning as Ashley Zulla produced a double to start the Dawg Attack. The Hounds continued to get runners in the next three innings but were not able to break into the scoring column. When the Wildcats took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning, some would have questioned the ability of the Dawgs to overcome this deficit as they had only scratched two hits off of Granahan. You may want to check your Webster’s Dictionary to look up the word unbreakable and see if there is a team picture of the Dawgs. Tough-as-nails, never give up, stubborn, resilient take your pick, because all describe the 2013 version of the NBC softball team. In the bottom of sixth, everyone was up, there was no quit, quite the opposite, there was a belief, a determination that this team would find a way to come back. Who should validate that belief but Meredith

Taylor. She sent the first pitch of the inning on an orbital pattern that onlookers said produced a trail as is something was going into outer space with a booster send off. Pops Stanton said that Max started to wince as only he could hear the softball screaming as it went over the fence. The fence could have been another thirty feet back and there still would have been Yard Work. Mr Usazki feared that passing cars might be in danger. Taylor’s home run seemed to stir the offensive siren for the Dawgs. Ashley Zulla came to the plate and hammered a hit to the outfield. Ashley bolted out of the batter’s box with a gleam in her eye as if she were competing to be a finalist in Fear Factor. Zulla aggressively attacked first and would not be denied second base. She slid in safely to second- got up with a determination that echoed to the entire Hound Pound. Things were starting to percolate on Mansfield Road. With one out Alex Zulla decided to enter the Hit Parade Sweepstakes as she stoked a ball to right field that sent sis home and Alex at third. The lead was now cut to 3-2 and NBC fans and players alike were up after an eight count but refusing to stay down. “You don’t have enough to put us away” could have been the battle cry of the Howling Dawgs. In the top of he seventh the Wildcats had two hits and with one out the batter sent a fly ball to right field. After recording the second out, the Maple Shade runner tagged up and came home. NBC fans along with Meghin Stanton and Ashley Zulla saw that the runner had left too early, appealed the play and the umpire banged out the runner to end the inning with no further damage. So fasten your seat belts, folks because we are in for quite a ride in the bottom of the seventh. Shaye Santos led off the inning for the Hounds. Santos may be the most under the radar offensive player for NBC. Keep in mind, she hammered the home run to cement the victory over Cinnaminson. In the first victory over Maple Shade, it was Shaye-Shaye who homered in the bottom of the third to start the scoring parade. So it was only fitting for Santos to start the bottom of the seventh, with a single up the middle. Kacie Herity followed with a textbook bunt that turned into a base hit. The Hounds had runners on first and second and no outs and the Dawg Attack was starting to show its collective fangs. Meghin Stanton moved the runners to second and third and Meredith Taylor, she of orbital path homerun in her last at bat coming to the plate. In a puzzling decision with first base open, the Wildcats decided to pitch to Taylor. Are you drop-dead serious?????? Again on the first pitch, Meredith Taylor sent a tracer to the left center field fence. There was enough electricity coming off that ball to start up Block Rocker without a cord. Santos and Herity came home and Taylor wound up at second base with a walk off double to win the game. The frenzied crowd celebrated a win that improved the Hounds to 16-4,but more importantly displayed for all who were there that this team is the real deal and will not go down without a fight. A gritty win against a team who came to seek revenge and left looking for answers for the last two innings.

NOTES- The Wildcats must have left wincing in pain after getting bitten by the late inning Dawg Attack. Meghin Stanton struck out eight batters. Meredith Taylor was 3 for 3 with three RBI'S and two extra base hits. Ashley Zulla had two doubles and Alex Zulla added a triple as the Hounds mustered four extra base hits. The Hounds improved to 6-0 when playing on Mansfield Road at the Dawg Pound. NBC s 15-1 against Burlington County opponents. The game was witnessed by the Superintendent, Principal, and Assistant Principal along with Mr. Usazki. Quite a show for the administration. The Dawgs next opponent in the BCSL is Bordentown who defeated Moorestown to reach the semifinals. NBC made it to the semifinals last year before losing to New Egypt. The date and time of the next game is still up in the air. Meredith Taylor must have thought that she needed to add to the home run brigade against Maple Shade. In the last game, Rachel Taylor, Shaye Santos and Meghin Stanton (2) all homered.

HOUNDS SLUGGISH BUT STILL DECLAW PANTHERSA day after an emotional and satisfying win in the quarterfinals of the BCSL, NBC traveled to Collingswood to face the Panthers on Senior Day for the Panthers. It was the first time that the Hounds had faced Collingswood during Coach Corcoran’s tenure at NBC. The Panthers came into the game as a definite underdog but didn’t seem to mind the role. They were able to keep the Hounds from mounting sustained rallies all afternoon. Perhaps it was the exhausting victory on Wednesday against Maple Shade. It could have been that the Hounds hit traffic and were not able to do their pre game batting practice to ready themselves. Whatever the reason the Hounds were noticeably flat. NBC was held to one hit in the first two innings. In the third with one out, once again the rally igniter, Shaye Santos set the table. Shaye had a line drive single to centerfield. Kacie Herity followed with a beautiful bunt single and the Dawgs had runners on first and third. Meghin Stanton followed with a two run RBI single to right field and the Dawgs had a 2-0 lead. It would expand to 3-0 on an RBI single by Rachel Taylor. The Hounds didn’t score again until the seventh inning when Kacie Herity started the inning with her second single and came home on Meredith Taylor’s single. Morgan Clauser started on the mound for the Hounds. She got out of a bases loaded jam in the first and the Panthers never had more than one runner on for the rest of the game. Clauser only surrendered three hits as she continually got the opposition to hit the ball at the defense. Morgan also recorded six strikeouts. The defense was once again superb as they registered two double plays. In the bottom of the fourth with a runner on first the batter hit a tailor (not to be confused with Taylor) made double play. A sharply hit ball to Herity at short who was like a panther waiting for its prey. A flick to Megan Mayernik and a throw to Meghin Stanton at first who did her best impersonation of an Olympic gymnast with a split to complete the 6-4-3 double play. In the fifth, Mayernik would take matters into her own hands with a runner on first. Mayernik made the play tagged the runner and fired to Stanton. Final score 4-0 -Hounds NOTES- The Hounds had eleven hits and two base on balls so thirteen base runners is not a bad showing. The problem is that for the first game all season the Hounds did not have an extra base hit. Meghin Stanton hit the nail on the head during the post game debriefing when she said that the Hounds need to raise their game to the next level and if they do that they can compete with anyone in the state. Stanton, as usual, is right on the money. This belief was highlighted on Wednesday night when Nottingham who defeated NBC in 9 innings beat Robbinsville 2-0. Robbinsville has been ranked as the No. 1 team in the entire state and entered the game with only one loss. So yes, the Hounds start their journey into the playoffs as the number three seed. It is a very advantageoud seeding for the Dawgs. Before that the Hounds will play Friday, Saturday and Monday. Friday’s game is against the Millville Thunderbolts home of Mike Trout of the California Angels. The Thunderbolts are a formidable foe who figure to test the Dawgs from the first inning. The Dawgs will be out early to the game tomorrow to get their batting practice and iron out a few wrinkles. With their focus in place, the Dawgs should be ready to unleash the Dawg Attack.

ZULLA’S LATE JOLT SHOCKS ‘BOLTS

NBC hosted Millville in the first meeting ever against this South Jersey foe. The Thunderbolts have an interesting nickname which came about during World War II when Millville Airport became a training center for pilots. More recently, Millville has been in the news because it is the home of Mike Trout, the professional baseball player. The coach of Millville used to babysit when Trout was a minnow. So much for the history lesson on Millville.

On a sunny day with temperatures in the upper 70’s, beautiful softball weather, the Hounds were able to get a glimpse of a playoff caliber team. Millville is seeded 7th in South Jersey Group 4 and came in with a 16-7 record. The game started quietly enough as the ‘Bolts were retired in the first inning. In the bottom of the first Ashley Zulla drove in a run with an RBI single that scored Meghin Stanton who had reached second on an error. When Rachel Taylor and Alex Zulla were walked it seemed that this game would be a cinch for NBC to win. But, the 'Bolts were able to get out of the inning with no further damage.

The top of the third would soon shatter that dream. Millville scored three runs on four hits as they were getting legitimate hits. In the fourth inning the ‘Bolts brought in two more runs to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Things could have been worse but Kacie Herity made a dazzling play on a slow roller that she gobbled up and fired to Meredith Taylor who picked it cleaner than a pickpocket in New York City on a Friday night.

Fans of the Dawgs know that this ain’t over until Katie Barron does a karaoke in the bus. So in the bottom of the fourth, you guessed it, the Dawg Attack was unleashed. Alex Zulla started the rally with a single. Katie Barron opted to get on base rather than sing and Savannah Bowen followed

with a base hit loading up the bases for the clawing Dawgs. Kacie Herity followed with a single, Meghin Stanton hit a sacrifice fly, Meredith Taylor had a single and when the inning was over, the Hounds were down 5-4. Millvlle, who must have thought that things were safe with a four run lead, now were looking in the rear view mirror, as the Hounds were barking at the door.

After the fourth inning, Millville was held in check by Meghin Stanton. Once again defense played a huge part as, in the sixth inning, when Megan Mayernik snatched a grounder on a ball hit between first and second and then dove into first base like a hawk swooping down on its prey to record the out. Alex Zulla was as steady as a jeweler cutting diamonds on a busy day as she recorded five outs at third base. Although the ‘Bolts were not scoring, the Hounds were retired in order in the fifth and sixth innings after scoring three in the fourth. So fans, buckle up because once again it is time to go on the white knuckle ride that is NBC softball.

Earlier in the week Connor Hughes, a columnist for the Burlington County Times called this team the Cardiac Canines. Coach Corcoran must have made this article required reading for the Hounds, because the seventh inning, once again proved to be shocking. Meghin Stanton started the inning with a fly ball that was misplayed for a double. Meredith Taylor followed with a yawning hit that just eluded the grasp of several fielders. Marissa Veneziale, just up from the completion of the JV game, came in to run for Meredith. Ashley Zulla came up – down one run - two runners on and the game on the line. This is what big time players dream about when they are little crumb snatchers thinking about that day when they are on center stage. Zulla had already had two hits under her belt. Ashley drove a pitch to right center that cleared the fence by approximately 50 feet. Reports from the Palo Alto Space Observatory are predicting that another yellow spherical object will pass Central New Jersey in 70 years. Assistant Coach Corcoran was coaching first base when the ball was hit and when he looked up to see the ball, he assumed that the moon came out early on Friday night. A monster home run that sent the fans into a dancing frenzy. A walk-off homerun by Ashley - the second walk off for the Hounds in three games.

NOTES: - Meredith Taylor had two hits for the day and became the all-time single season leader in hits with 41. - Ashley Zulla wound up with three hits and four RBIs. Ashley now has 27 RBIs for the season which puts her in second place for a season. The record is 31. - The Hounds had missed their pitching guru, Coach Heiser for several games so his return was greeted with high fives. Not only does Coach Heiser handle pitchers, he calms restless dawgs on the bench and has picked up the nickname, The Dawg Whisperer. - Mayernik covers more real estate at second base than her parents at a property closing. - In between innings, Stanton continued to talk about this being a gut check for the Dawgs as they prepare for the playoffs. - Ashley Zulla fittingly wore her Walk-Off shirt to school today. It is safe to say that Ashley already has her outfit picked out for Monday. My goodness, can we check that one more time to see if it was the reported missing asteroid. - Coach Corcoran welcomed the coach of Millville, Brooke Ewan, who coach played against when they were both 12 years old playing in the state semifinals in Millville. Coach Corcoran won that encounter also. - The Dawgs are now 18-4 and continue their marathon of games on Saturday with a game against Riverside. Three years ago, the Rams defeated the Hounds.

TWO HOME RUNS DIFFERENCE IN WIN OVER RAMSThe Hounds played a Saturday morning game at Riverside - their fourth game in four days. The Rams entered the game with a 16-7 record, seeded 6th in South Jersey Group I, and having won the BCSL Independence Division Title earlier in the week. The Riverside home field has no fence which can cause problems if the ball is hit in certain gaps.

NBC started slow with only two hits entering the third inning. With two outs, Meghin Stanton hit a ball that with a fence would have allowed Stanton to go into her home run trot. Meghin had to race around the bases to register the home run as Coach Corcoran had her arms going like a windmill on a stormy day. Stanton scored and the Hounds had a 1-0 lead.

Morgan Clauser was pitching for NBC and brought her "A" game on this Saturday. After walking the second batter of the game, Clauser retired six consecutive hitters before a bunt gave the Rams their first hit of the game. Morgan didn’t give up another hit until the sixth inning. She was assisted by an outstanding defensive effort by the Hounds. Ashley Zulla threw out two base runners trying to steal, Meghin Stanton made a diving catch while playing centerfield and the Real Estate Agent, Megan Mayernik had two ESPN highlight plays. On the first play in the fourth inning, Megan ranged to her right to pick a ground ball and threw in time to get the runner. Even more sensational was her play in the sixth inning where she appeared as if on a magic carpet to magically catch a foul ball that was going out of play.

The Dawgs added a needed insurance run in the top of the seventh when Alex Zulla hit a bullet that hit the gap between two fielders and just kept going. Alex was running hard to get her second homerun of the season, as the Riverside outfielders had to go into Cinnaminson to retrieve the ball.

Clauser gave up one run in the seventh, but was in complete control during the entire game. She totally dominated the Rams lineup.

NOTES: - The plate umpire at the game was the base umpire for the NBC -Millville game on Friday. He commented before the game to Coach Corcoran that

Ashley Zulla's homerun on Friday was probably the longest homerun he had seen all year. A varsity baseball game was played at the same time. Playing in the open field, the dag-nab outfielders for Riverside were questioned if they were in the baseball game or the softball game. Several times during the game it is possible that fans and players alike lost sight of the wayward fielders. - It was obvious as a result of several plays in the game that the Riverside team is one that wants to compete but is a classy outfit. Hats off to a team who understands the big picture. - The Saturday edition of The Trentonian lists the top players in the area in a number of categories. Meghin Stanton is third in pitching with a 13-3 record. Stanton is third in strikeouts with 112 while Morgan Clauser is 8th with 34. The Doubles Leaders is a virtual Who’s Who of NBC as Meghin Stanton, Rachel Taylor, Ashley Zulla, Meredith Taylor, Alex Zulla, and Shaye Santos are all on the leader board. Stanton and Santos also appear on the Home Run leader list. - Next up for the Dawgs is the Military Ball on Monday Night which is also Senior Night a.k.a. Meghin Stanton. - On Tuesday the Hounds open postseason play with a home game against Princeton.

DAWGS STING HORNETS ON MEGHIN'S NIGHT

Some might think that possibly the largest crowd of the year was there because of the Military Ball, the last home night game of the year, the possibility of chowing down on food made by the Dawg Chefs, or the Hounds trying to get to the 20 win mark. No, the real reason for the overflowing crowd was to honor possibly the best all-time player in NBC history. Meghin Stanton has been the driving force in the resurgence of the NBC softball program. She has put her stamp on how to play the game. She is humble, competitive, passionate, and as has been reported repeatedly on this website has set the standard for young Dawgs to follow. One has to just witness the truly moving experience when Meghin was honored and hugged each player on the team in the pregame ceremonies. There was a genuine outpouring of love as her teammates individually held on tightly

one more time to their leader. It was a moment to be held onto for a lifetime. Understand, that Coach Corcoran and Assistant Coach Corcoran have been at this game for awhile. Megin Stanton is a comet that doesn’t cross your path too often. The young Dawgs wanted to win this one in a manner befitting of their captain.

So in the bottom of the first after surprise- surprise Meghin struck out the side, the Hounds exploded for seven runs on eight hits highlighted by doubles off of the bat of Ashley Zulla, Rachel Taylor and Alex Zulla. Ashley also had two RBIs to add to her team-leading total of 29.

Meghin retired the Hornets in order in the second as she threw 25 pitches in preparation for Tuesday’s state playoff opener against Princeton. The Hounds added two more runs in the bottom of the second as Megan Mayernik delivered a two run double to raise the score to nine to nothing.

Morgan Clauser came on in the top of third and the Dawg Defense showed itself. NBC produced a very rare 9-5-4 double play as Rachel Taylor fired a missile to Alex Zulla who had time to floss her pearly whites while waiting for the throw, made the tag and then threw to Megan Mayernik to complete the double play. The inning ended when Alex Zulla threw to Meghin Stanton at first base to nail the runner as Stanton made an acrobatic split to get the runner.

The Hornets, desperate to start something in the fifth with a base runner, decided to test the arm of Meredith Taylor. Big mistake!!!!! Meredith loaded up her howitzer and launched a throw to erase the runner. In the bottom of the fifth, the Hounds loaded the bases and Meredith Taylor ended the game with a single, bringing in the tenth run. Meredith's hit gave her 45 for the year inching her closer to the 50 hit mark for the season.

NOTES: - The Hounds notched their 20th win with the victory. - Kacie Herity had four hits to pace the 17-hit attack. - Six of the Hounds 17 hits were doubles. - Meghin Stanton, Meredith Taylor, Ashley Zulla, Alex Zulla, and Megan Mayernik each had two hits. - Meghin Stanton will leave NBC as the all-time leader in runs, hits, RBIs, doubles, and home runs. More telling then her statistics, is her love for the game and how her charisma imparts this onto others. On Monday night, fans and players stayed long after the last out to enjoy the taste of the victory. What could capture the night better - Coach Corcoran and Assistant Coach Corcoran sat on the cart waiting to turn the lights out for the night. The last to leave the field - Meghin Stanton, Pops Stanton, Max, and Block Rocker. The coaches sat silently as they watched and thought of a time years ago when a similar scene unfolded at another field on another night.

HOUNDS EARN PLAYOFF STRIPES IN ROUT OF TIGERSNBC entered postseason play seeded #3 and hosted the #14 seed, the Princeton Tigers. It was a gorgeous day with temperatures in the 80’s.

After retiring the Tigers in order in the first, the Dawgs came to bat ready to strike. Unfortunately, although they had runners on in the first three innings, and the bases loaded in the second, they weren’t able to capitalize on their opportunities.

The fans grew restless even though Meghin Stanton only gave up four hits through the first four innings.

In the fourth, the Defense Dawgs showed their fangs. With one out Megan Mayernik, she of ESPN Top 10 Web Gems on a regular basis fame, roamed to her left and almost wound up on the JV field as she tried to catch a pop up. Mayernik fell to the ground not able to hold onto the ball, but once again caused the home plate umpire, Tom Moorehouse to shake his head in disbelief at the outstanding effort by the intimidating Megan. He could be heard in between innings remarking about Mayernik, “she’s good” which translates in others' vocabulary to, ”are you serious?”

In the bottom of the fourth the Hounds came to life. WOW, did they come to life. Alex Zulla started the rally with a base hit and after one out Savanah Bowen had a single to put runners on first and second. Kacie Herity followed with a base hit as did Meghin Stanton and the Dawgs were clawing away. Ashley Zulla tripled and the scoreboard started to light up like a pin ball machine - 6 runs with two outs in the fourth. That is a Dawg Pack Attack.

After retiring Princeton in the fifth, the Pack was on the prowl again growling for more runs. Megan Mayernik led off with a single and Savannah Bowen followed with her second hit of the day, a bunt single that was one to show young Dawg pups who are learning how to lay down the perfect bunt. With two runners on Shaye Santos came up and deposited a bomb to dead center field. One knew it was a home run when the fans in centerfield looked skyward in unison as if an eclipse had blotted out the sun. Afterwards it was reported to the fans that it was the ball that Shaye hit that caused the eclipse. The Dawgs relentlessly pushed on - loading the bases for Ashley Zulla. Ashley jolted a double and the Dawgs had tamed the Tigers, 11-0.

NOTES: - Everyone in the NBC lineup had a base hit. The Hounds totaled 17 base runners which is a pretty good recipe for a win. Meghin Stanton had two hits as did Savannah Bowen. Ashley Zulla had two extra base hits along with four RBIs. And of course, there is the Mad Bomber, a.k.a. Shaye

Santos. Santos has such quick hands that she can play both sides in a pat-a-cake game. - Next up for the Hounds is a semifinal game in the BCSL Tournament on Wednesday against Bordentown. - On Thursday, they host Ocean Twp. who beat Red Bank on Tuesday. Three years ago when Meghin Stanton was a freshman NBC traveled to Ocean Twp. in the playoffs. Stanton scored the winning run in the seventh inning in a 1-0 win for the Hounds. Four years ago, the Hounds traveled to Ocean Twp. and defeated them 5-3 in a state playoff game. It is safe to say that Ocean Twp. will look to get revenge against the talented Hounds. - NBC now stands at 21-4.

HOUNDS WITHSTAND SCOTTIES NIPPING AT HEELS FOR WINThe game against Bordentown finally arrived. This game was rescheduled more often than a Comcast service call. NBC had defeated Bordentown earlier in the season 6-2 and there was no doubt that the Scotties wanted a piece of the Hounds. Both teams had won their first round of the state playoffs. Both teams have state playoff games scheduled for Thursday. This was a game to prepare for Thursday, but more importantly the winner will face Florence in the finals of the Burlington County Scholastic League Championship held next Wednesday at 6:00 P.M. under the lights. This will be a doubleheader with the boy’s championship held on an adjoining field. Yikes, it is a good thing Riverside is not in this, their outfield might be on the boys field. The Hounds started the first inning with two hits but were not able to bring in a run. The Scotties had runners on in the second, third and fourth innings but each time, Meghin Stanton refused to give in to the opposition. In the second inning with a runner on third base and one out, Meghin struck out a batter looking and then retired the next batter on a harmless pop up to Megan Mayernik. In the third inning with two runners on and two outs Kacie Herity ratcheted up the defense and made a web gem with a scoop and an off balance throw to nail the runner as Meredith Taylor held on for the final out of the inning. Herity looked like a gymnast falling off the balance beam as she smoked her throw to Meredith. Meredith has become

MITB with throws anywhere in her zip code. In the top of the fourth Shaye Santos made a running catch to end another Scottie threat. The Hounds unlike the last two games were having difficulties getting base runners. They loaded the bases in the fourth inning but weren’t able to get a run. Finally, in the bottom of the fifth inning Savannah Bowen led off with a bunt single. Savannah has become more dangerous than a burglar when the electricity is turned off. She has been simply “lights out” Shaye Santos sacrificed Savannah to second and Kacie Herity proved to be clutch with a base hit up the middle which sent the fleet footed Bowen into overdrive as some onlookers saw sparks coming off of her spikes. Savannah beat the throw home and the Hounds had the first run of the game. The defensive play of the game occurred in the top of the sixth inning when the leadoff hitter reached first on a single. The third batter in the lineup came up and hit a shot to the Bounty Hunter, a.k.a.Megan Mayernik who fielded it- fired to Kacie Herity to record one out and Herity threw to Meredith Taylor who made an unbelievable snare while holding the base to complete the double play. Rollin!!!!!! Huge momentum shift as the next batter singled but once again, Meghin rose to the occasion and struck out the fifth batter in the lineup. In the top of the seventh, Bordentown had two runners on with two outs and Stanton went to the well once more and retired the leadoff hitter on a groundout. Game over, 1-0 NBC reaches the finals of the BCSL after reaching the semifinals last year. NOTES- Several former Hounds were in attendance including Dara Schroeder now playing at Georgian Court and Andi Veneziale now playing at Misericordia. The combination of Meghin’s pitching and the Dawg pack defense which showed their teeth today with crittercal defensive plays was the difference in the game. Stanton wa superb as she scatterd five hits and shut out the nipping Scotties in a masterful performance. With high humidity and temperatures in the upper 80's, Stanton didn't wilt. The Hounds showed they can win a game with timely hitting at the right time. Meredith Taylor had two hits as did Alex Zulla. Savannah Bowen was just huge as the fire starter and Kacie Herity was biiiiiiiig time. The Hounds get their season long wish which is to have a rematch against Florence. Bring friends and family to this one, folks, this is going to be a night to remember.

OCEAN TOWNSHIP RAINS ON DAWG PARADE

On a day when the rains cancelled some state playoff games, the NBC game was played. This is not to make excuses for a playoff loss, but it would have been interesting to see if the outcome would have been different on another day. Understood that both teams played in the same conditions. Enough said.

The early part of the game featured a stoppage of play to let the rains subside and game balls dried off with enough towels that the local laundromat was on alert.

In spite of this, the Dawgs jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second as Kacie Herity drove in two runs with an RBI single. The Hounds left two runners stranded in the inning.

Ocean Township scored three runs in the top of the third but the Hounds seemed to be ready to answer when they loaded the bases in the bottom of the third but could not push a run across. The visitors upped the score to four to two in the fourth, five to two in the fifth but still the Hounds would not go down without a fight.

In the bottom of the fifth the Hounds answered with a run as Ashley Zulla doubled down the left field line. Ashley came in on a groundout by Rachel Taylor.

In the top of sixth Ocean Township scored five more runs to make the score 10-3. The Hounds were not able to come back from the seven run deficit but still were battling to the last out.

The Hounds had several sensational plays. Kacie Herity played shortstop like a person possessed as she made several spectacular plays. She made a diving grab in the fourth and threw to Alex Zulla to end the inning. In the sixth, Herity made a grab of a ball and threw to Meredith Taylor as she crashed to the ground but got the out. Meredith Taylor made a brilliant pick of a throw in the first inning and Katie Barron made an over-the-head grab of a sure fire extra base hit in the seventh. Savannah Bowen continued her late season offensive display as she had another hit. Assistant Coach Shtino refers to her as "Bowflex."

NOTES: - The playoff run for the Hounds ended before they wanted it to, but the Hounds were the third seed and on another day, who knows? - Meghin Stanton played her last home game for the Hounds and everyone associated with NBC softball wishes there were more games for Deputy Dawg to play at home along with Pops and, yes even Max. Meghin, Pops and Max promise that they will be back next year when William Paterson is not in session. - The Hounds will take several days off after having four games in four days, having an eleven game winning streak snapped and getting their first loss at home of the season. - The Hounds will come back to practice on Memorial Day and practice for two hours, practice on Tuesday and then play on Wednesday night against Florence for the BCSL Championship. The Hounds are hopeful that Florence continues to win so that they can pin the first defeat of the season on Florence. Meghin Stanton will be ready to pitch as she will be able to give her left arm a rest after leftie threw over 150 pitches in the

game.

HOUNDS FALL TO FLASHES IN BCSL FINAL

The ingredients were all there for a victorious night for the Hounds. The Dawgs were well rested while Florence had played in the heat on Wednesday and would be playing on Friday for the Central Jersey Group I final against New Egypt. The Flashes came into the game undefeated and sporting a 22-0 record. The Hounds still achingly remembered the first victory of the season for Florence which was a 2-1 heartbreaker. So the Hounds had revenge on their minds –a favorable situation in respect to scheduling –and in the back of their minds that this would be the last game at NBC for their beloved leader, Meghin Stanton. In the top of the first inning, the Hounds got two runners on with one out but were not able to take the lead. The Flashes looked overmatched against Meghin Stanton in the bottom of the first and it looked like just a matter of time before they busted the game open. Unfortunately, the busting would be done in the bottom of the second, when Florence would score six unearned runs. As is usual, the Hounds would not give in. This team is a bunch of junk yard dawgs who will clench their fists, roll their sleeves up and wade into the battle regardless of the opponent. In the top of the fourth the Hounds scored two runs as Rachel Taylor boomed a double to score Ashley and Alex Zulla. The Dawgs were yapping at the heels of Florence as they scored another run in the top of the fifth courtesy of an RBI single from Ashley Zulla. In the top of the sixth Meghin Stanton drove in a run to narrow the gap to 6-4. The Dawgs envisioned another seventh inning rally to pull out yet another thriller. Again it wasn’t to be on this hot and muggy evening as Florence scored three more runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Hounds got a base runner in the top of the seventh but their storybook season ended at the hands of Florence, 9-4 NOTES-There will be a season recap next week. To look at this game is to see a Hounds team that anyone would be proud to be associated with. A chemistry among the team that reflects a team spirit. Until the last out was recorded, these Dawgs continued to support each other. They lost to

Florence but any an onlooker had to be impressed with the never give up spirit of NBC. In a post game interview, a Florence player commented that she knew that The Hounds were always a danger to dial up runs on the scoreboard in the late innings. NBC has created an image of a team that is never out of a game, regardless of score or inning. Another comment that resonated with all in the NBC community was when Meghin Stanton told the BCT reporter that it was just setting in that this would be her last game pitching for her Dawgs. In the post game huddle, Meghin embraced the evening by sharing with the team how special this season was and how proud she was to be associated with it. There had to be more than one teammate who had tears in their eyes as they held onto the memories of a special night, a fantastic season and their captain, as always, humble, passionate, competitive and loving of her Dawg family. Thanks Meghin
