    One Mans Opinion

Part II dont come out on Sundays now, I pretty much stopped a fewyears ago when I realized I was hustling 7 days a week and I justdecided to take a day off. I dont miss being out on Sundays. Ioccasionally go to football parties or cookouts, but for the most part its church and sometimes themovies. But I got to thinking about folks who still want something to do on Sundays and realized thattheir options are limited when they shouldnt have to be. Let me explain.

A while back, Sunday sales of liquor, wine and beer was approved in Savannah and most of thecounty I think, so why do clubs and lounges still have to close on Sundays unless they are servingfood and deriving most of their income from food that day? Liquor stores dont sell food. Conven-ience stores sell food, but I bet they sell more gas, but theyre allowed to sell beer and wine. Its timefor an ordinance change. Let all the clubs, bars and lounges open on Sundaysif they want to. Itsonly fair to allow them to compete. While were at it. I never understood why clubs, bars and loungeshave to close at all. Why not let them stay open 24/7? OK, OK this is the Bible Belt so why not havethem close at 3:00 am Sunday until Noon and the rest of the week they can stay open if they wantto.

Who would it hurt? Folks know when they have to go to work and will act accordingly, if they dontthey wont have any work to go to. If theres no one there, the bar owner will close and go home. Ifsomeone drinks until 5:00 am, the police will be outside just as they are at 3:00 am and theyll facethe same consequences if theyve had too much to drink.. So why not let the clubs stay open? I canremember plenty of times of being with a group, everyone is having fun, no ones falling down drunkbut all of a sudden we have to leave because its arbitrarily approaching 3:00 am. It made no sensethen and makes no sense now. Grown people should be able to choose how and when they areentertained. An additional benefit to the governmental entities for extending hours would be theincreased tax revenue from sales because there would no longer be a need for untaxed after hourclubs which still probably exist around the area.

If you see your City Alderman or County Commissioner, tell them to end the Sunday closing of theclubs, bars and lounges and if youre serious, tell them to let them stay open 24/7 too.

    Just, One Mans Opinion.
