We will never feel at home until we can focus on someone other than ourselves. Narcissism and hospitality are incompatible. When we apply this to a parish the same is true. Often I hear, “I don't get anything out of Church.” That's a red-flag remark that says your focus in on yourself and what you can get. Bishop Morneau encourages to stop with the “selfies” and make a turn outward. When parishioners begin to look at each other in a respectful and caring way, their parish is in the process of becoming a home. Think, “What do I bring to worship and what am I open to receiving?” Feeling “at home” is an acceptance of self and of others. It is a will- ingness to be open and vulnerable to self and others. It is sharing what you have and sharing who you are AND be- ing open to receive what others have to share and who oth- ers are. “It takes a lifetime for a home to become a home.” - Sr. Teresa Tuite, O.P.

HospitalityHospitalityHospitalityHospitality Throughout the year we will use this space to offer some

suggestions, some thoughts, some challenges to help us stay

focused on our goal of hospitality.

Bishop Morneau: Embracing Hospitality. Sixth step: At Homeness.

What makes you feel at home? What makes you feel like an outsider in your own home? I read a book recently enti-tled Britt-Marie Was Here. Britt-Marie was a woman longing to be at home. At one point she says, “It takes a lifetime for a home to become a home.” I like that. I think Bishop Morneau would agree. How do we build a home … within ourselves, with those with whom we live? How do we make a parish a home? It is a will-ingness to be open and vulnerable to self and others. It is sharing what you have and sharing who you are AND be-ing open to receive what others have to share and who oth-ers are. “It takes a lifetime for a home to become a home.” - Sr. Teresa Tuite, O.P.

IRISH FESTIVAL REQUEST FOR HELP

The Dublin Food Pantry's largest volunteer and food drive event is the Dublin Irish Festi-val held August 5-7 this year. On Sunday, August 7, peo-ple can receive free admission to the Festival with a food donation to the Pantry. Last year, 17,000 pounds of food was collected! How we want to die represents the most important and costly conversa-tion America isn’t having. We are

inviting you to dinner so we can talk about death and deci-sions surrounding death. Msgr. Hendricks, Dr. Tim Coss and attorney Mike Zaino will offer some insights from the faith perspective, the medical perspective and the legal per-spective to help answer any questions you might have. End of life decisions are challenging and it is helpful to you and to those you love if you make those decisions ahead of time. --Sister Teresa Tuite, OP

prayers for those who have died.

Nancy McLaughlin Prechtel died unex-pectedly on June 21, 2016. After moving to Dublin from Boardman, OH, Nancy be-came a parishioner of St. Brigid of Kildare in 2013. She deeply loved and cherished her Catholic faith and her Irish heritage.

Her twin daughters. Nancy Davis and Mimi Geswein and their families are also parishioners. Mass of Christian Buri-al was offered for Nancy on July 29, 2016. May she now rest in peace in the loving, merciful arms of God

EPIC Middle School Youth Group

EPIC is for all 7th and 8th graders of St. Brigid of Kildare school and parish. If you have a 7th or 8th grade student for the 2016/2017 school year, electronic registration is available online. Parents with returning eighth graders, please re-register your child. Just visit stbrigidofkildare.org, then click on “youth,” and select “middle school youth group.” You will see the registration link at the bottom of the page. There is no fee and t-shirts and pizza are included for all monthly meetings.

The Group meets once a month for faith, fun, fellowship and service. Members attend Mass as a group, then meet in Hendricks Hall for prayer and pizza, followed by activities and service, either on-site or locally. These service oppor-tunities help them to meet their Confirmation requirement of 25 hours (or more) ; and demonstrate a diversity of ways they can contribute to society and further God’s kingdom on earth. The program also helps students to build commu-nity among their peers and be active members of the com-munity of St. Brigid, their second home.

We have been collecting glasses at St. Brigid for two years for Vision Health In-ternational. The response from parishion-ers has been wonderful. We have collect-

ed hundreds of glasses that have been put to good use all over Latin and South America. However, Vision Health In-ternational now has a way of making proper prescription glasses on site wherever they may be in the world. There-fore, they no longer need prescription glasses. We will dis-continue collecting glasses on July 17, 2016. The Lion’s Club will continue to collect glasses at the Hilliard Library at 4772 Cemetery Road. Thank you for all of your contributions. Order The Collapse of Parenting

In The Collapse of Parenting, Leonard Sax presents data documenting a dramatic decline in the achievement and psycho-logical health of American children. Sax argues that rising levels of obesity, depression, and anxiety among young people-as well as the explosion in prescribing psychiatric medications to kids-can all be traced to parents letting their kids call the shots. But there is hope. Sax shows how parents can help their kids by reasserting their authority-by limiting time with screens, by encouraging better habits at the dinner table and at bedtime, and by teaching humility and perspective.

Don’t panic but Lent, 2017 is only 234 days away! We want to be ready.

To start your thinking, let me ask you this: Can you name 32 saints? … How did you do? Now the test – how much do you know about those 32 saints? In our Christian tradition we have so many heroes and heroines, people who have lived every-day life rooted in their faith. They can inspire us, intercede for us and connect us in a deep way to the communion of saints. As part of our 10,000 Hour Lenten Prayer Challenge we are adding a new “station.” It is called Lent Madness. We all know or have at least heard about March Madness. Lent, 2017 begins on March 1 next year. We thought it might be a fun way to lean about the saints and some other really good people by participating in Lent Madness.

Lent Madness began in 2010 as the brainchild of the Rev. Tim Schenck from the Episcopal Church. In seeking a fun, engag-ing way for people to learn about the men and women comprising the Church’s Calendar of Saints, Tim came up with this unique Lenten devotion. Combining his love of sports with his passion for the lives of the saints.

The format is straightforward: 32 saints (and other good people) are placed into a tournament-like single elimination bracket. Each pairing remains open for a set period of time and people vote (online – going through our website) for their favorite saint. 16 saints make it to the Round of the Saintly Sixteen; eight advance to the Round of the Elate Eight; four make it to the Faithful Four; two to the Championship; and the winner is awarded the coveted Golden Halo. The first round consists of basic biographical information about each of the 32 saints. Things get a bit more interesting in the subsequent rounds as we offer quotes and quirks, explore legends, and even move into the area of saintly kitsch.

As a preview here are some dates to keep in mind.

November 3, 2016 the 32 saints and some really good people will be released. You can spend time looking up the peo-ple.

January, 2017 a book: Saintly Scorecard designed to help you to help you learn about the selected saints and other people is released.

February 14, 2017 you submit your filled in bracket along with $5.00 if you want to be par t of the St. Brigid Par ish Pool. Keep watching for more information about Lent Madness in weeks to come.
