Customer Service Training in the HIBU

The HIBU strives to provide excellent customer service at all times. HIBU

attended a Customer Service training on July 16th. Maria Fischer-Boothe was

IRIS Training Plan Validity Period Change Currently, when an approved IRIS Training Plan is received and processed by IRIS Training, the required SAP courses indicated on the training plan are added to an employee’s training records and the employee has twelve (12) months to complete the required training. As long as the employee remains in the same position identified on the training plan and successfully completes a required course within that twelve (12) months, the corresponding access should be available within 1-2 business days after completion. If a required course is completed after the twelve (12) months period and the corresponding access is still needed, a new IRIS Training Plan must be submitted prior to the corresponding access being provisioned to the employee. Effective July 1, 2014, the timeframe to complete a required course w/out having to submit a new IRIS Training Plan is being reduced to six (6) months. Most training is already being completed within six (6) months, so this is going to have very little (if any) effect on employees. IRIS Training Plan Basics

An IRIS Training Plan indicates the required course(s) and corresponding SAP access an employee needs to perform the job responsibilities for his/her current position. When an employee leaves a position, the Business

Officer should send an IRIS Training Plan Request Form (http://myhelp.uky.edu/rwd/HTML/Training_Plan_Request.html requesting all SAP access be removed (selecting the Access Removal ONLY option in section #2 of the form).

If the employee has transferred to another position at UK (whether in the same department or not), the Business

Officer for the employee’s new position must submit a new IRIS Training Plan indicating all of the required course(s) and corresponding SAP access needed for that position.

Any course the employee has never completed and had access from would need to be successfully completed prior to obtaining the corresponding access. Any access for which the employee has had within the past six (6) months will be reinstated within 1-2

business days of IRIS Training receiving the ASO-approved IRIS Training Plan with no need for the employee to retake the corresponding course(s).

If the employee has completed a course more than six (6) months ago and not had the corresponding access within the past six (6) months, the course must be retaken prior to the access being reinstated.

Summertime Trivial Facts

In ancient Rome, July was the fifth month of the year. It was originally called Quintilis which means fifth in

Latin. When the Gregorian calendar was adopted, it became the seventh month of the year. It still kept the

name of Quintilis until the death of Julius Caesar. The seventh month of the year was Julius Caesar's birth

month so it was renamed in his honor.

Parents' Day is celebrated on the fourth Sunday of July. President Bill Clinton established this in 1994.

One of the more annoying parts of summer are the mosquitoes, which have been around for 30 million

years. It’s said they can find warm-blooded mammals from 100 feet away.

France’s Eiffel Tower can grow by more than 6 inches in summer due to expansion of iron on hot days.

Watermelon is not a fruit, but a vegetable.

Many people enjoy throwing Frisbees in summer, but they were originally designed as pie plates in the

1870s. Students started throwing them in the 1940s.

In ancient times, most people swam in the nude; laws about decent swimming attire were created

progressively from the 17th century onwards.

The first Summer Olympic were held in 1896 in Athens. Women were first allowed to compete in 1900.

Ice pops were invented by accident in 1905 by 11 year old Frank Epperson. He mixed soda and water and

left the mixture out overnight with the stirring stick still in it. Since the temperature was low, the mixture

froze. He patented the idea in 1924.

July is the month where most ice cream is sold in the US. That’s why it’s National Ice Cream Month.

Americans eat about 5.5 gallons of ice cream per year on average.

Neil Armstrong had the honor of being the first man on the moon. This memorable historic event took

place on July 20, 1969.

2014-15 University Holiday Schedule An updated version of the University of Kentucky’s 2014-15 holiday schedule is now available online here. Looking ahead to the winter holiday season, please note the University will close our main academic campus after the work day on Wednesday, December 24 and re-open on Monday, January 5. For eligible campus (non-UK HealthCare) employees, the extended closure will provide one additional special holiday – Friday, January 2 – beyond the four (December 26-31) typically provided in most years. It will also generate significant savings on energy and transportation costs during what would otherwise be a one-day work week. Because the University’s clinical facilities remain open throughout the special holiday period, this additional one-day closure will not affect UK HealthCare areas. As a result, employees on the UK HealthCare payroll system (hospitals, clinics, College of Medicine clinical departments, Continuing Medical Education, University Health Service, corporate offices) and Clinical Faculty will receive the standard four days of holiday leave. For more details on employee use of holiday leave, please see HR Policy & Procedure #83.0: Holiday Leave.

Below is a new email scam that may be making it’s rounds through the university again. In prior months, there were cases of Individuals pay checks being rerouted and deposited into accounts that were not established by the employee. It appears that this new scam asks specifically for bank information. PLEASE notify all employees of this scam and remind them that the university will NEVER send these types of emails. They should not click on the link or provide any information through these types of communica-tions. Thank you for ensuring all employees are aware of this situation.

Hello, The University is having a salary increment program again this year with an average of 2.5%. The Human Resources department evaluated you for a raise on your next paycheck.
