Definitions

1.) Horror- The intense feeling of fear, shock or

disgust

2.) Movie- a story or event recorded by a

camera as a set of moving images and shown

in a theater or on television; a motion

picture.

3.) Society- the aggregate of people living

together in a more or less ordered

community.

When Horror movies first came out, it was during the silent movie era, these movies were scary because they were based on Fiction story characters such as Dracula, Werewolf etc.

Then after Movies grew in popularity, Movie studios began to produce horror movies that were based on Mad Scientists who perform immoral experiments.

Then Studios went to movies where it focused on visitors from outer space.

Then horror movies came to an era where they we taken seriously, both critically and popularity, these movies included Jaws, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Omen etc.

In the early 2000’s, Horror was mostly just about death itself and How it affects people around you. Perfect example would be the Final Destination movie franchise.

Now, we are at a time where torture horror movies are popular, with the Saw Movie Franchise being one of the highest grossing horror franchises movie to date.

1.) Can Horror Movies contribute to society?

Horror Movies can contribute to society in

ways other forms of entertainment can not. They

can highlight social issues in the world. They can

give a sense of wonder to the public as to why

things happen. They can also give entertainment

to people who want to step out of the real world

and into a fictional world.

2.) How have they affected Society?

Horror movies have been a source of

entertainment for society. However they have

always been a source of controversy for society as

well. But, they have lived for decades now. Only

because It’s a way for people to get out of the real

world and step into a world of scary monsters and

scary people. They have been a source enjoyment

and fear for us all.

3.) What is to come from Horror Movies in the future?

Horror will always be a part of society and

they will always affect us as a society. Movies

however might not be. But, the stories of

horror will always be around even if movies

are not.. But, until Films are outdated and is

replaced with a new form of entertainment,

Horror will always be around no matter what.
