Transcript of Horror Movie Production Companies
Hammer was founded in 1934 by jeweller and theatre owner William Hinds. The company didn’t
originally begin making horror movies, but after the success of The Quatermass Experiment in 1955, the
company produced many gothic monster movies, working alongside Universal and Columbia, who
helped them to maintain their productions in Bray Studios.
Since the 1960s, Hammer has became increasingly popular worldwide and still produces a wide variety
of horror films to this day.
Blumhouse Productions was founded by Jason Blum. The company’s first film was the comedy The Darwin Awards, which was released in 2006. Since
then, Blumhouse has produced several more comedy movies, science fiction movies and several
horror movies. While they specialise in low-budget films,
Blumhouse has become well-known worldwide with the success of Paranormal Activity in 2009.
Universal Studios was founded in 1912 by Carl Laemmle. Unlike Hammer, Universal has
produced a wide variety of films over the past 100 years, including action movies, science-
fiction movies, comedies and horrors.
They now have several studios worldwide and theme parks, with various rides based upon some of their most popular film franchises,
including Jaws and Harry Potter.
Twisted Pictures was founded in 2004 by Mark Burg, Gregg Hoffman and Oren Koules,. Unlike the previous production companies in this presentation, Twisted Pictures has only produced horror movies. Its most famous movies include
Saw and Texas Chainsaw. The company has also taken part in the making of the video games for Saw and Saw 2.
Its founders are also part of Evolution Entertainment, another film production company which was founded in
