APRIL SHOWERS

BRING MAY FLOWERS

It looks like we are off to another ―Fun‖ year and more good

food! Our attendance at the Hoosier Gym was 43 members,

very good for a March Meeting with the weather still cold.

We also had some club members we hadn’t seen for a while,

Melissa Miles-Gardner and Ray Snider, glad they could make

it! After leaving the Hoosier Gym we all went to Kopper

Kettle in Morristown for a family-Style, fantastic dinner.

Several classic T-Birds as well as some of the newer two

seaters were present, they looked great! We have quite a

few basketball players in the club, some pretty good and

others that could use a lot of practice. Our shooting hoops

contests were won by Joe Baker and Dottie Pierce. They

each received an unbelievable trophy. We had a tie for the

Basketball Trivia contest between Bill Windmiller and Jim

Caylor; they get a great big ―Atta Boy‖.

We have two new members in the club Ben Smith, and Sam

& Gina Waltz, Sam was in attendance at the Hoosier Gym.

We appreciate them both; please welcome them to our club

when you see them.

Kathleen House previewed our April Meeting and Sara

Koehler previewed our May outing. Both sound like a lot of

―Fun‖ and guess what, more delicious food.

As I have pointed out before the members who host these

meetings and make all the arrangements for us spend a lot of

time doing this, they deserve participation from all members.

If you don’t attend you are missing out on a lot of good fel-

lowship, fun, good food, and a lot of T-Bird conversation.

I would like to see our attendance top 50 members at every

meeting. “Be there or be square”!

Weather Update! I just got off the phone with a friend living in North Dakota near the Canadian border. He said that since early this morning the snow has been nearly waist high and is still fall-ing. The temperature is dropping way below zero and the north wind is increasing to near gale force. His wife has done nothing but look through the kitchen window and just stare. He says that if it gets much worse, he may have to let her in.

Submitted by Bev Lucas………….for some reason, I thought this was funny!

Kent King’s T-bird hitched up and ready to go. Trying to get away from the snow!

Do not try this at home! This is no way to treat your Thunderbird!

“Shade Tree Mechanic” EBOH Tech Reporter Don Lucas will be back!

After a couple months in Florida and a few weeks back in the land of Hoosiers it was time to embark on another trip to visit our master of recovery and restoration. Maestro Joel McShane. It was cer-tainly fortuitous that I choose the 16th of March for the trip. The ides of March behind us, the anniversary of the McShane's Nuptials upon us and the Shamrock laiden St. Patrick’s day to follow. It seemed as if the stars had aligned.

The initial wave gathered at the House of Bob Evans on Southport Road. Our ranks were swollen by a new knight of the realm Sam Waltz. It was to be an indoctrination for Sam that soon would not be forgotten. The T-Birders gathered were, Jim Caylor, Bill Windmiller, Duane Johnson, Bobby Carroll, Sam Waltz, Bill Bishop and of course Charlie Kinder, Unfortunate-ly Charlie was unable to head for Henryville with us, but Sam did get the benefit of meeting the founder of E.B.O.H.

We headed south towards Joel’s and discussed the world affairs im-portant to Thunderbirding. Sam has recently acquired a White 57 "D" Bird and with the tutelage of Duane Johnson, gotten the bird roadwor-thy. This is a "certified" 45,000 mile car. I'm sure that Bev will get Sam to give us more details on this Little Bird in a future edition of the newslet-ter. We're looking forward to eyeing the new addition and hearing more.

We arrived at Joel’s and found Ken Shaw bending Joel’s ear. I had asked Ken to bring the club check book so that we could enjoy a luncheon to die for, but alas Ken didn't comply. Joel was "hard” at work on his cur-rent T-Bird along with other less significant projects. There was an old Javelin stripped and in need of major body work sitting beside a nicely done T-Bird frame. The frame and the little bird body on the rotisserie belong to club members Virginia & Paul Frisbee. Obviously the car is hav-ing a frame off resto and the previously red bird will be taken back to its original dusk rose. I've seen and experienced Joel’s magic touch with our little cars and there's no doubt that this will be one shining star. Sam was on this project like a bee on honey, like fleas on Fido, like white on rice, like a moth to a flame, like a duck on a June bug, like stink on ----, you get the idea. He seemed "Jazzed". It was neat to see the interest and enthusiasm. Kind of rekindled the flame in this old man. Joel guided us through the vari-ous projects and updated the status on them. He's started to work on his 46/47 ford sedan/pickup truck street rod. The power plant right now is a vintage FE T-Bird 390. With Joel’s keen eye and imagination I'm sure this will be worth talking about and looking at as it pro-gresses.

As noon approached it was time to head for a local eatery. Car talk abounded and with this group, even if you've heard it a hundred times, it seems fresh to your ears and interesting. In fact as I age I find that I hear more and more things for the first time. We reluctantly mounted our steeds and headed north. We talked of the next club meeting and of course the next "Trip to Joel’s".
