I took the PSAT/NMSQT test my sophomore and junior year. The first time, I scored a 195, but followed it up the next year with a 208 on a scale ranging up to 240. That placed me in the 98th percentile in the nation. I scored 70 in critical reading, 72 in mathematics, and 66 in writing skills (a possible of 80 in each section). I ended qualifying as a semifinalist, and will proceed to the next stage to compete for a finalist position. Westminster College offered me a half-tuition scholarship for four years for a total of $48,000 based solely on this test score and full tuition if I make it as a finalist.

Beginning in 2006, I began working as a bookseller at Barnes and Noble. I was able to work six to twenty hours a week while still maintaining a rigorous schedule and a 4.0. I also had opportunities to learn the skills associated with bookselling including salesmanship, computer skills, and shelving techniques. I built strong relationships with coworkers. The discount isn’t so bad either!

My first time I took the ACT, I scored a 33. After taking more science and English classes, I took this last year and raised it to a 34. It has become a friendly competition among some of my peers. This also placed me in the 30+ Club at Murray High School, a respected recognition given to students at MHS with ACT scores over 30.

ACT Test Scores

As the end of high school approaches, I’ve been looking for the perfect college to attend. As I want to major in chemical engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology caught my attention. In my application, I wanted to stand out and be as creative as possible. I put a bit of a twist in my application essay and wrote it in iambic pentameter. My application was a time to collect all of my credentials and show my creativity.

My world has constant song to sing, while I

must rest for sure. At first I play, then it

I have been on the honor roll since seventh grade. Keeping my grades up is an important goal for me, and I have met it every term of every year. While grades do matter to me, the class content is much more important; I would rather have a B in an AP class than an A in a regular class.

SAT Reasoning and Subject Tests

SAT Reasoning Test Scores I scored 2140 on the SAT Reasoning test on a scale of 2400. I scored 690 in the critical reading, 770 in math, and 680 in writing. On the SAT Subject tests, I scored 800 on chemistry, 740 on Math 1, and 730 on U.S. History (on a scale of 800).

I submitted this piece in the Murray Arts Festival where I got a second place ribbon. It was one of my favorite projects in SLCC Art 1020. I used a medium of black and white colored pencils on black paper to create the wintry white and gray effect. I have completed many other art projects In and outside of class that I am very proud of including projects done with pencils, pastels, and colored pencils.

I have been in band since fifth grade and played the piano since I was six. I can play the alto saxophone, clarinet, soprano saxophone, flute, and piano. I have been in the Murray concert band for three years and am currently the first chair clarinet. I was in the Riverview Junior High symphonic band as first alto saxophone. I am currently in the Murray jazz band as first alto saxophone, and was first alto in the Riverview Jazz Band as well. I have performed in the Murray pep band for the past three years. I was first clarinet in the Murray pit orchestra and full orchestra. I have performed a piano solo in the school talent show each year for the past three years. I am the pianist in my church.

University Classes Riverview Junior High Awards

The Superintendent’s Award was given to ten students from Riverview Junior High School and Hillcrest Junior High School. The award was given based on academic merit and high citizenship. I am very proud of the honor and still carry fond memories of the event.

I was the top student in the 9th grade class at Riverview Junior High in terms of academics and citizenship. As such, I had the opportunity to give the valedictory speech at the promotion ceremony. I was very nervous to stand in front of all those people, but I think I did a decent job. It improved my public speaking skills.

I’m glad I’ve been able to go to Riverview. It’s a

great school and I’ve been able to do a lot of

things here. I’d like to thank all my teachers for

all they have taught me and the inspiration they

have given me to do the best that I can. I’d also

like to thank my friends for being there for me

and holding me up even if they think I’m a little

weird. Go Class of 2009!

Last summer, I took two classes through BYU Independent Study with a 3.7 GPA. This school year I took Calculus III at the University of Utah, scoring higher than college students on most of the tests. I found it immensely satisfying. I made some friends and had a small taste of the life on campus.
