Lake County Census Complete Count Committee Sets Meeting Schedule

The Lake County Complete Count Committee (CCC) held its first meeting on Oct. 7, attended by many local elected officials and community leaders. Meeting participants received training from the U.S.Census Bureau on best practices for ensuring that every citizen in the County is counted in the 2020 U.S. Census. Following the meeting, committee members established a schedule to meet every two months from November through May.to work on strategies to carry out its goals. The meetings are open to individuals or organizations who wish to get involved. Meetings are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Nov. 11, Jan. 13, March 9 and May 11 at the Lake County Division of Transportation, Main Conference Room, 600 W. Winchester Road, Libertyville. If you wish to attend or want more information, contact Assistant County Administrator Cassandra Torstenson at [email protected]. To help carry out its charge, the committee has created a web page on the Lake County government site with helpful resources and links to complete count committees in the municipalities within Lake County. The CCC will strategically focus on addressing hard-to-count areas of Lake County, including minority populations, low-income households, immigrant populations, populations with language barriers and young children.

A full and accurate census count is important to Lake County because it helps determine how much state and federal funding our county receives for vital programs, including housing, education, transportation, employment, and health care. It also helps determine the number of representatives to the state legislature and U.S. Congress. By April 1, all households in the United States will receive an invitation to participate in the Census. There are three options for responding: online, by mail, or by phone. In May of 2020, Census Bureau workers will begin following up door-to-door with households that did not respond.

Fairfield Road

Closure Extended

Round Lake, IL - The Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) is currently replacing a culvert on Fairfield Road between IL Route 120 and IL Route 134 in Round Lake. Due to complications at the site, the closure has been extended. The latest estimate for the contractor to safely reopen the road is now Monday, Nov. 11, weather dependent.

The main disruption to the original schedule was an unforeseen utility conflict. We know that the motorists who depend on this road have been very patient, and we are doing everything we can to get the road back open. While we take great pride in delivering road improvements on schedule, occasionally we have projects that don’t go according to plan.

LCDOT, the contractor and the utility company are working to complete the project. The utility work is now almost complete, and the road is scheduled to be paved at the end of this week prior to it opening to motorists on Nov. 11.

Detour Route: IL Route 120 to Wilson Road to IL Route 134. Local traffic will have access from IL 134 south to Nippersink Road and local residences and from IL Route 120 north to local residences. The road is closed to all through traffic at Squaw Creek. Project Website: https://www.lakecountyil.gov/4148

The Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) will be hosting a one day only special electronics recycling collection event for broken and unwanted electronics. This one-day special event will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Lake County Public Works Garage located at 648 W. Winchester Road in Libertyville. Recycling fees will be assessed for televisions and cathode ray tube monitors ($35 for TV’s 21” and larger, $25 for TV’s 20” or smaller, and $25 for each cathode ray tube monitor) all other acceptable electronics will be collected at no cost. Cash, check or major credit cards are accepted for payment of applicable recycling fees.

SWALCO routinely provides no cost opportunities for Lake County residents to recycle their broken or unwanted electronics from their homes through a network of drop off locations operating around Lake County. However, State law limits these locations to accepting only residentially generated electronics. SWALCO has recognized there is a need to offer electronics recycling opportunities to Lake County businesses, schools, non for profits and units of government whose electronics do not apply to the residential

generated definition of the Law. To address this need, SWALCO has partnered with eWorks Electronics Services Inc. to provide a service called the Business Concierge Program.

This one day only special electronics recycling collection event will provide Lake County businesses, schools, non for profits and units of government the opportunity to drop off limited quantities of electronics (approximately 100 electronic items per guest). Organizations with larger quantities of electronics are asked to contact SWALCO directly to arrange a special pickup. All Lake County businesses, schools, non for profits and units of government must provide a Federal tax identification letter or business card in order to be permitted to drop off electronics during this one day only special electronics collection event.

The following is a list of some but not all of the electronic items that will be accepted at no cost: Personal Computers (including tablets), LCD Monitors (Non-CRT Monitors), Electronic Keyboards, Mice, Small Scale Servers, Printers, Scanners, Copiers, Fax Machines, Cable Receivers, Satellite Receivers, VCRs, DVRs, DVD Players, Telephones, Cell Phones, Stereos, Radios, Microwaves, Portable Digital Music Players, Shredders, Calculators, Postage Machines, Cords, Cables, and other Electronic Office Equipment. Some items not accepted include: Dehumidifiers, air conditioners, lead-acid batteries, large appliances and chemical waste.

For a comprehensive list of items accepted and to learn more about the Business Concierge program visit www.swalco.org or call (847) 377-4950.
