TASK 1: Some of the sentences are completely incorrect, have the wrong punctuation and the wrong facts. Read through the paragraphs below and
re-write it. There are five errors. Can you spot and fix them all?
Stewardship means looking after future generations.
The Catholic Church believes we are all stewards because God gifted us the world and gave us the responsibility of looking after it as it is written in Harry Potter 2 “The Lord God put man in the Garden of Eden to work the soil and take care of the garden”.
By looking after the environment we are ensuring future generations can destroy it and ensuring that global warming doesn’t create extreme weather that may impact the lives of people and animals today. Being a good steward meaning following Jesus’s teaching of the Greatest Commandment; “love yourself”.
In 2013, Pope Sarah wrote a letter (encyclical) to the world called L’audato Si which means “caring for our common home. He believes we must look after the world because it is our common home gifted to us by God and belongs to everyone.
TASK 2: There are two responses to a B Style written response in RE.
Read, Analyse and annotate the two responses.Use the Success Criteria to help you.
Write a summary explaining which response would receive the most marks and why.
B) Describe Catholic beliefs about Stewardship [5
Marks]
Response 1
Catholics believe that God created the world for us to
care for.
When you read Genesis you can see that God expected
Adam and Eve to care for the world. He told them to
care about it.
Catholics also believe that we are meant to look after
the ‘fish in the sea’ and that means only eating fish on
a Friday. The more we can do to help the better people
we are.
Response 2
Firstly, Catholics believe that Genesis truly expresses
mankind's nature and responsibilities. They believe
that God outlines his expectations for humanity using
Adam and Eve. God ‘put man in the garden to work
it’ which implies that we (all people) should be caring
for the environment.
Second, Pope Francis said ‘that this is our common
home’ and we should all take care of it.. This means
that Catholics try to reduce, reuse and recycle to care
for the environment and encourage others to do the
same.
