As we learn about the 4 types of government in Ancient Greece, we will choose music to listen to based on the ways decisions were made in each government structure.
Monarchy The earliest form of
government in ancient Greece was monarchy, in which one person-such as a king or emperor-had the power to make all of the political decisions.
Those of you sitting on the floor have no power.

Oligarchy
Oligarchy developed in Greece as an alternative to monarchy. In an oligarchy, a few individuals have the power to make political decisions.

Oligarchs were the wealthy members of society. Three volunteers.

Tyranny Discontent with the
oligarchy in ancient Greece led to the rise of new leaders, called tyrants.
In a tyranny, one individual seizes power by force and rules single-handedly.
Remember: those of you on the floor have no power.
Which of you believe that the class would like YOU to be the one to select the music?

Democracy Around 500 B.C.E., after
