Ramesh Raskar:

Imaging at a trillion frames per secondRamesh RaskarRamesh Raskar is Associate Professor at MIT Media Lab and directs the Camera Culture Group. His research interests span the fields of computational light transport, computational photography, inverse problems in imaging and human-computer interaction.Projects and InventionsRecent projects and inventions include transient imaging to look around a corner, a next generation CAT-Scan machine, imperceptible markers for motion capture (Prakash), long distance barcodes (Bokode), touch+hover 3D interaction displays (BiDi screen), low-cost eye care devices (Netra,Catra), new theoretical models to augment light fields (ALF) to represent wave phenomena and algebraic rank constraints for 3D displays(HR3D).Femto-PhotographyRamesh Raskar developed the femto-photography, a new type of imaging so fast it visualizes the world one trillion frames per second, so detailed it shows light itself in motion.

This is a photo of Ramesh camera capturing the motion of Light.1 millionth of a second

To start his presentation he showed the audience a picture of a bullet piercing a apple captured at 1 millionth of second exposure time. He explained that this discovery was 50yrs ago and now were able to get an exposure time of 1 trillion. Key VisualsThroughout the speech Ramesh shows various images of the things he spoke. Pairing a visual with the knowledge and information he was giving for better understanding of what he was trying to explain.

Make the complex plainWith his speech dealing with a complex topic he definitely kept the information at a level where people who weren't attending MIT or had prior knowledge on the subject could understand.

5 out of 5I give the speaker a 5 out of 5. I believe when dealing with a topic people may not be naturally interested in or have common knowledge its hard to peak interest. I believe his passion for his field and the way he simplified his info he did great.

Garr and RameshI believe one of the tips from Garr he used is content. Which stated No matter how great your delivery, or how professional and beautiful your supporting visuals, if your presentation is not based on solid content, you can not succeed.

The one thing I have learned the most is passion for your subject matter. Being passionate and knowledgeable about what your speaking makes presenting a lot easier and smoother.

Moving forward in technologyComparing Rameshs speech to Sir Ken Robinsons Changing education paradigm they both were presenting about an idea to improve the future. Although different topics they both share the common goal of bettering the future whether it be technology or education.

The best tip I could give based on a recurring factor is that the best way to feel comfortable when presenting is to present what you know and to be passionate about it because that well help encourage you about what you already know.
