Disaster preparedness kit
In line with our administration’s planning and organization of our Disaster Risk Reduction and Management response and in consideration
of the calamities that struck the Philippines and other parts of the world recently, we would like to start with a collection of basic provisions
for each child which will be stored in the classrooms until the end of the academic year. These are the following:
Small flashlight and whistle attached to their ID lace
1 bottled mineral water (500 ml)
2 packs of preferred local soda crackers
1 shirt (preferably bright colored) and face towel (white)
The mineral water, soda crackers, shirt and face towel will be stored inside an emergency bag per student in each classroom. The
emergency bag is available at the Stuffshop and costs a minimal P95.00.
Since they will be stored until the academic year ends, it is advised that the expiry dates be checked. Also, the flashlight and whistle should
be portable and lightweight because it will be worn by the child all the time.

Suspension of Classes during
Typhoons
The suspension of classes is announced by the DepEd-NCR Director or the City Mayor of Muntinlupa.
In some instances, School Heads or Principals may suspend
classes when the surrounding areas are flooded. South Mansfield
College decides so only after getting feedback from reliable sources
that the areas around the school are indeed flooded.
The DepEd still maintains that parents have the ultimate
responsibility for determining whether their children should go to
school, even if no order of cancellation / suspension of classes has
been issued, if they feel that travelling to or from school will place
their children at risk. Parents are advised to check for media
advisories coming from proper authorities, agencies or Office of the
President.
When classes are suspended, Grade 5 to 12 students may use
Moodle to study their lessons at home.

ECED students to bring books needed only
for the day
According to studies, kids posture is a bigger concern
than most parents and teachers think.
With growing workload for school children, the weight of
this issue is increasing every day. Carrying heavy
weighted and oversized school bags full of heavy books
can cause young children to develop serious spinal
deformities. Children carrying heavy school bags are
developing forward head posture as they are hinging
forward at the hips to compensate for the heavy weight
on their back. This strains the muscles and in turn pushes
the body to go into an unnatural posture alignment and
also causes low back pain.
In this connection, students in PS to Grade 2 are
encouraged to bring textbooks that are needed only
for that particular day. This means that small kids will
no longer pull heavy trolley bags every day of the week.
This is to prevent initial effects to the child such as
spinal stress, possible pain, and discomfort.

Get your teen reading
You know that reading is important, and you obviously want to
make sure that your teenager grows into adulthood with all the
skills he or she needs to succeed. The following is a list of ways to
encourage your teens to read:
1. Set an example. Let your teen see you reading for pleasure
and during routine activities such as reviewing letter,
newspapers, and magazines.
2. Furnish your home with a variety of reading materials.
Leave books, magazines , and newspapers around. Check to
see what disappears for a clue to what interests your teenager.
3. Give teens an opportunity to choose their own books.
When you and your teen are out together, browse in a
bookstore or library. Go your separate ways and make your
own selections. A bookstore gift certificate is a nice way of
saying, “You choose”
