NEW ACCOUNT:To establish an open account, please send us two trade references from current suppliers and one bank reference. C.O.D. shipments will be made to customers not on open account.

TERMSOur terms are net 30. An account placed on hold requires payment to within 30 days to be released from hold. No C.O.D. shipments will be made to accounts over 30 days. Minimum invoice requirement is $20.00. We accept all major credit cards.

Installing and Aligning InsertsTo properly align profile inserts, the seat must be clean as possible to avoid breakage and ensure the best alignment. The insert is placed on the gib pins with the cutting face toward the gib. The insert and gib should be pressed down lightly against the bottom of the pocket and then moved against the stop screw. Holding the insert in position, tighten the gib screws reasonably tight with a “T” handle hex key wrench. Visually inspect to make sure the insert is in place and there is no void between the insert and the tool body.

Tightening KnivesA tremendous force can be exerted on knives by tightening the gib screws improperly. All gib screws should be tightened lightly around the head and then all screws should be gradually tightened in sequence. This is necessary to prevent the bore from becoming out of round and seizing on the shaft before you are ready for it.

Combines the advantages of SHEar & heLIX and spiral tooth action

Woodworkers know that a shear cut is far better than a straight cut. You also know that a stagger cut is much better than just a single straight knife and is a lot easier on your dust collection system. If you just happen to plane a nail or staple, it is not necessary to replace expensive knives the full length of your planer head. Replace 2 or 3 small inexpensive knives and you are ready to go. You might expect to pay a small fortune for a journal head with these features, but here at Byrd Tool Corp we can manufacture a journal head to your specifications for typically a fraction of the cost you might expect.

SHELIX®

When replacing or rotating inserts, the seat should be as clean as possible. This will prevent breakage of inserts and ensure proper insert alignment. To properly align the insert, press the insert away from the seat while tightening to approximately 45 inch pounds torque. This allows the countersink in the tip and the taper of the head on the flathead screw to slide the tip into its proper position.

20 Degree Hook, 60 Degree Hook corrugations and pocket style gibs are standard on all heads.

HydraulicSleeves

Hydraulic Sleeves are manufactured to your general specifications. One type grips both the arbor and the bore of the cutter head by hydraulic pressure. The second type will grip the arbor only as it is pressurized. We will work with you to satisfy your needs.

Hydraulic Heads and Sleeves

Normal operating pressure for a hydraulic tool is 6500psi. This number is critical if used over a keyway. Maximum keyway size is 5/16'' for 1 ¼'' to 1-13/16'' diameter arbors. Maximum keyway size is 3/8'' for 2-1/8'' or larger diameter arbors. Pressure should be checked about once per shift or operation.
