Volunteers are needed to:

● sort clothes in the used clothes closet

● help set up for Mass on Wednesday mornings; 8am -8:15am

● with knowledge of lawn mower engine repair to help get our small lawn tractor started. Email Mr.

8th grade parent meeting

Start now to prepare for high school applications. Come to an informative meeting about high school choices,

open houses, application deadlines, etc. We’ll also discuss end of year and graduation events. The meeting is

this Wednesday, September 12 at 6pm.

Hurricane Plans

All Saints is carefully watching weather reports about Hurricane Florence. Based on today’s reports, we

anticipate that Thursday will be a normal school day. We will make decisions about Friday by mid-day on

Thursday. Please know that decisions about school closings are made through a network of Richmond area

Catholic schools. We will use our parent alert system to notify you of school closings via text, email and

phone. We also post school closing information on television channels 8, 12 and 6. In an event where the

school loses power, we are able to connect to the parent alert system via cell phone; however, the school phone

lines will be down. We will give directions about picking up your child and contacting school personnel in the

parent alert.

Parents, please make sure this year’s student data form is turned in as we update our database from the student

data form. We want to be sure to have current phone numbers and email addresses so that we can contact you.

You can view what information we have on file by visiting your parent web account and viewing family

information.

PTO Room Parent Meeting Postponed

The meeting scheduled for this Thursday, September 13 is being postponed to Tuesday, Sept 25. Room parents

are still needed in grades 1, 4, 5, and 6. Please contact the school if you can serve as room parent in one of

these grades.

Performance Series Testing

All Saints grades 1 through 8 participate in standardized testing three times per year. Please visit

more about the performance series test. This fall’s testing schedule is as follows. Providing your child with a

good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast prior to testing will be beneficial! Please keep in mind that

standardized testing is one snapshot of many forms of data that teachers use to guide instruction for your child.

PALS Testing

Early literacy screening is the key to providing effective literacy instruction and preventing future reading

problems. The Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening (PALS) provides a comprehensive assessment of

young children’s knowledge of the important literacy fundamentals that are predictive of future reading

success. PALS assessments are designed to identify students in need of additional reading instruction beyond

that provided to typically developing readers. PALS also informs teachers’ instruction by providing them with

explicit information about their students’ knowledge of literacy fundamentals. All Saints uses PALS testing in

grades kindergarten through third grade. Teachers will notify parents if there are any concerns noted from test

results. PALS testing will take place over the next month.

PALS Testing

El Examen de Alfabetización de Conciencia Fonológica (PALS) proporciona una evaluación integral del

conocimiento de los niños más pequeños sobre los fundamentos de alfabetización importantes que predicen

éxito en la lectura en el futuro. Las evaluaciones PALS están diseñadas para identificar a los estudiantes que

School Pictures

Fall school pictures will be taken on Thursday, September 13th.

Students should wear a clean school uniform - NO PE uniforms this day. Boys may wear the long pants or

shorts with any of the acceptable logo shirts - white or green for PK - 4; white, green, yellow, blue or pink for

grades 5 - 8. Girls may wear acceptable navy bottoms (skort, shorts or pants) and the acceptable logo shirt

(same as for boys) or PK - 4 girls may wear the jumper and grades 5 - 8 girls may wear the kilt with the yellow,

Orders for the Great American Fundraiser are due next Friday, Sept 14. Do some early Christmas shopping this

Math/Literacy/Digital Citizenship Family Night

September 20, 2018; 6 – 7pm

We hope you found orientation day informative and a beginning point for forming that ever so critical teacher-

parent relationship. We’d like to continue in this spirit and thus we will hold a family night (a different twist on

back-to-school night) on September 20th with a focus on math, literacy and digital citizenship. Teachers will

provide opportunities for you to experience math, reading and word study centers with your child so that you

are able to enrich these skills at home. Our technology specialist and school counselor, along with some middle

school students, will provide information on digital citizenship and ideas for enriching academic skills via

technology. It’s a night you’ll want to be sure to attend!

Next Up ……… Parent-Teacher Conferences in early November.

Esperamos que el día de orientación fue informativo y un punto de partida para formar esa relación tan

importante entre maestros y padres. Nos gustaría continuar en este espíritu y así tendremos una noche familiar

(un giro diferente en la noche de regreso a la escuela) el 20 de septiembre de las 6-7pm con un enfoque en

matemáticas, alfabetización y ciudadanía digital. Los maestros les brindarán oportunidades para que

experimente centros de matemáticas, lectura y estudio de palabras con su hijo para que pueda enriquecer estas

habilidades en el hogar. Nuestro especialista en tecnología y consejera escolar, junto con algunos estudiantes

de escuela intermedia, proporcionarán información sobre ciudadanía digital e ideas para enriquecer las

habilidades académicas a través de la tecnología. ¡Es una noche que querrás asegurarte de asistir!
