Last week FHBA held its Fall Conference in Palm Beach. In addition to meetings on topics such as finance and building codes, new leaders were installed to lead the association forward through 2016 and beyond. One of the most important presentations was to induct our own John Wiseman of Core Construction into the Florida Home Builders Association Hall of Fame. While John was President of the Florida Home Builders Association, he was instrumental in raising the bar of integrity and professionalism. He oversaw changes to FHBA fiscal policies and to the membership of the board of Florida Home Builders Insurance Company resulting in expanded insurance markets and greater dividends for FHBA. Under the guidance of his tenure as FHBA President, the FHBA Building University of Individual Leadership Development was established. Please join me and congratulate John on this well -deserved honor! Impact Fees are once again being proposed by our municipalities and county school boards, with Sarasota County Schools being the most imminent. On Tuesday, October 20, they will be voting on either eliminating the current moratorium or to add a fee for each new home permitted up to $7,835 each. If your business has any connection to new home construction you need to be involved and speak up for the industry. The economy is not back to its old pace of growth warranting an increase in this impact fee as most schools still have vacancies. Please contact me to get involved!
