BELLS

WELCOME

HOLY GOSPEL L: As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount

of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples, saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you doing this?‘ say, ‘The Lord needs it and will send it back here shortly.’” They went and found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway. As they un-tied it, some people standing there asked, ‘What are you doing, untying that colt?’ They answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people let them go. When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on it. Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields. Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted,

C: “Hosanna!

L: “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!

C: “Hosanna in the highest!”

(from Mark 11:1-10)

HYMN: ALL GLORY, LAUD, AND HONOR

PRAYER OF THE DAY L: Let us pray. We praise you, O God, for the great acts of love by which you redeemed us through your Son, Jesus Christ. As he was acclaimed by those who scattered their garments and branches of palm in his path, so may we always hail him as our King and follow him with perfect confidence; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C: Amen.

ANNOUNCEMENTS Easter Sunday Next Sunday is the celebration of the Resurrection of Our Lord. Worship times remain at 8:30 am and 10:45 am. The Sacrament will not be celebrated on Easter (but is offered this week at 7:00 pm on Maundy Thursday). There’s also an Easter egg hunt for smaller chil-dren at 10:15 am.

The flowers you ordered for the Easter garden will be available for to take home after the late service.

Select one that fits your schedule. At the 11:45 am Quarterly Meeting (4/24) the vot-ers will be asked to approve the site plan and design, so that the fund raising phase of the project can begin.

OLD TESTAMENT LESSON Zechariah 9:9-10 L: Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a colt, the foal of a donkey. I will take away the chariots from Ephraim and the war horses from Jerusalem, and the battle bow will be broken. He will proclaim peace to the nations. His rule will extend from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth. CHOIR Hosanna [10:45 am] EPISTLE LESSON Philippians 2:5-11 L: In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Maundy Thursday Worship 7:00 pm Thursday, March 24

The Sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated as it was for the first time this night in the Upper Room. Worship ends with the stripping of the altar.

Good Friday Tenebrae Worship 7:30 pm Friday, March 25

“Tenebrae” means shadows or darkness. The service revolves around the seven words of Christ from the cross as dark-ness descends. It is a most powerful way to prepare for Easter.

SERMON APOSTLES’ CREED L: Living together in trust and hope, we confess our faith. All: I believe in God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He de-scended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of

saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. L: God has given us the ministry of reconciliation. Therefore, let us be recon-

ciled to God and to one another.

Gracious God… C: have mercy on us. In your compassion forgive our sins, known and un-

known, things done and left undone. Uphold us by your Spirit so that we may live and serve you in newness of life, to the honor and glory of your holy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

L: The almighty and merciful Lord grants you pardon, forgiveness and remission of all your sins.

C: Amen. OFFERING PRAYERS OF THE CHURCH The Prayers are offered. Each petition ends with the following:

L: ...let us pray to the Lord: C: Lord, have mercy. LORD’S PRAYER All: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your

will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into

temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

The worship services of Holy Week are considered a unit. Therefore, there is no Benediction until Easter Sunday.

HYMN: LO, HE COMES WITH CLOUDS DESCENDING
