RCIA INFORMATION EVENING
Are you interested in becoming Catholic or just want to explore the possibility? Are you a baptized Catholic adult who wants to be confirmed and/or receive the Eucharist for the first time? The RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (RCIA) is designed for you.

For more information or if you would like to become a part of this process, please call Veronica in the parish office at (360)377-7674. Prayer to Our Lady of Sorrows
Our mother of sorrows, with strength from above you stood by the cross, sharing in the
sufferings of Jesus and with tender care you bore him in your arms, mourning and
weeping. We praise you for your faith, which accepted the life God planned for you.
We praise you for your hope, which trusted that God would do great things in you.
We praise you for your love in bearing with Jesus the sorrows of his passion.
Holy Mary, may we follow your example and stand by all your children who need
comfort and love. Mother of God, stand by us in our trials and care for us in our
many needs. Pray for us now and at the hour of our death. Amen!

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, The Called to Serve as Christ campaign is an expression of thanks for the hundreds of senior priests and sisters still with us and for whom we have the responsibility to offer care and sustenance. It is also an expression of hope in the young clergy and sisters who do not yet see retirement on the horizon, and those who will come long after them. God is good and faithful to every generation. I am excited and humbled to lead and contribute to the Called to Serve as Christ campaign, and I offer my encouragement to all of you to join me in this groundbreaking, historic endeavor. To be grateful for both our past and future is something we can do with certainty and hope – because God is good and faithful, because his Son Jesus will never cease to issue his call, and because the Holy Spirit will never cease to tend the Father’s garden with love, holiness, and wisdom. Sincerely in Christ,
Most Reverend Paul D. Etienne, DD, STLArchbishop of Seattle
WHAT WILL OUR CAMPAIGN ACCOMPLISH?The Archdiocese of Seattle initiated a $100 million campaign to provide long-term funding for retirement and medical needs of priests and women religious, as well as support of individual parishes. After this campaign, the Archdiocese hopes to:• Establish a stronger position to provide a consistent,
modest retirement for priests by moving from a pay-as-you-go system to a fully-funded model for priest pension plan and medical benefit for retired priests.
• Increase the ability of women religious communities to care for their senior members while continuing their ministry to God’s people.
• Provide parishes more resources for their local ministries, services, works, and programs.
• Lead by example in prayer, action, and generosity.• Reinforce a dynamic faith for the next generation of
Catholics in Western Washington.
I am grateful to him who has strengthened me, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he considered me trustworthy in appointing me to the ministry.
– 1 Timothy 1:12
A campaign for our PRIESTS, SISTERS & FAMILY OF FAITH
CALLED TO SERVE CHRIST as
THE TIME TO ANSWER CHRIST’S CALL TO SERVE
is Now!
WHAT CAN I EXPECT WHEN THE CAMPAIGN IS TAKING PLACE AT MY PARISH?Every parishioner will be given an opportunity to make a gift in support of the campaign. Parishioners will be contacted by their fellow parishioners serving as campaign volunteers, as well as through direct mail, and a final giving weekend appeal at the end of our campaign. During each Mass, parishioners can expect to hear announcements regarding the progress of the campaign and read bulletin announcements offering details on the goals of the campaign.
PARISHESFifteen percent of the funds raised by parishes will be returned to them for specific needs such as reducing parish debt, completing capital improvements or growing parish endowments. After a parish reaches its set campaign goal, it will receive 85 percent of funds back.
COSTSSix percent of the campaign funds will be marked for the costs of running the campaign. These costs include the design of all marketing material, printing, postage, professional assistance, grant writing, gift processing, and events.

SISTERSWomen religious have played a crucial role in the history of our Church’s mission in Western Washington. The positive impact and reach of their work cannot be overstated. They have answered the call to serve as Christ and for decades served with almost no compensation. This campaign will acknowledge and thank them for their sacrifice and ministry by splitting up the funds proportionately among the orders who have historically served our Archdiocese in order to assist them with their pension and medical needs.
PRIESTSFunds will be used to better meet our retirement obligations for current and future retired priests. The present pay-as-you-go model for the priest pension and medical plans was sustainable when there was a large number of active priests paying into the plan and a relatively small number receiving benefits. With the shortage of priests in active ministry, and a growing number of retired priests, the “pay-as-you-go” model will no longer be sustainable.
As a result, parishes are paying more and more into the plans through increased billings and the Annual Catholic Appeal each year. Through this campaign, the Archdiocese will eliminate the Annual Catholic Appeal’s portion of funds designated to priest pension and senior priest medical expenses. Further, the Archdiocese plans to significantly reduce parish billings for the priest pension plan and eliminate the annual increases.
