PRAYER TO ST. MICHAEL
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray: and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
PASTOR’S MESSAGE
King Duncan tells this story about how Sesame
Street dealt with the death of one of their cast
members. In the summer of 1981, Will Lee, the
actor who played an adult character named Mr. Hooper on the
children's television show Sesame Street, died. This posed a
difficult set of issues for The Children's Television Workshop,
producers of the show. Should they deal at all with the subject
of death? If so, how would they explain it to their 10 million
viewers, most of whom are under the age of six? A staff writer
describes it this way: "We asked ourselves: What do we want
the kids to know? What can they absorb? What might open
up things we can’t answer?' We try to create boundaries
around what we can safely teach without doing any damage."
Child-development experts who specialize in loss and separa-
tion provided some specific don'ts for dealing with death on
the show: Don't say Mr. Hooper got sick and died, because you
don't always die when you get sick. Don't say he was old, be-
cause children think their parents are old. Don't say he went to
the hospital and died, because people go to the hospital all the
time. The staff also decided to avoid religious issues, such as
saying that Mr. Hooper had gone to heaven. What about the
do's? Early on they decided they were going to say a few basic
things. He's gone, acknowledge the reality. He won't be back.
He'll be missed. They also wanted the cast to express how
they felt about Will. And they wanted the kids to know that
death stimulates a full range of emotions. You're sad, you're
angry; you're frustrated all at the same time. The show that
resulted aired on Thanksgiving so that parents could watch
with their children. In one segment, Big Bird walks on camera
and says to the cast: "I just drew pictures of all my grown-up
friends on Sesame Street and I'm going to give them to you."
He passes out sketches and the cast members ooh and ahh over
the likenesses. He's left with Mr. Hooper's picture. "I can't
wait till he sees it," says Big Bird. "Say, where is he? I want
to give it to him." One cast member explains: "Big Bird, don't
you remember? We told you . . . Mr. Hooper died. He's dead."
Big Bird says, "Oh yeah, I remember. Well . . . I'll give it to
him when he comes back." Another cast member gets up from
her chair and touches Big Bird saying, "Big Bird, Mr. Hooper's
not coming back." "Why not?" Big Bird asks innocently.
"Big Bird," explains the cast member, "when people die, they
don't come back." And that's true, Big Bird. They don't come
back. They come back only if they happen to be a friend of
Jesus. Isn't that the message of today's lesson from John's Gos-
pel?

QUESTION OF THE WEEK
Here is our Question of the Week. The encouragement is for
everyone to ponder that question or to dialogue in your
family prayer time, over this particular question.
Begin with prayer and then have someone pose the question.
Listen with respect to those who respond and close with
another short prayer, perhaps the Lord’s Prayer.
This week’s reflection questions are:
Relate an experience that kept you entombed and from
which you were able to come forth.
Relate una experiencia que la mantenía sepultada
y de la que haya podido salir adelante.

“Joshua Cup” Project
The Youth Office and Our LIFE TEEN Core have been praying for vocations for many years. Now we have a project to actively involve all our Holy Trinity Families. Joshua comes from the Hebrew name ַיְהֻע (Yehoshu'a) meaning "YAHWEH is salvation". Josh-ua Cup Project is a prayer activity to pray for voca-tions. We will purchase a chalice that we as a parish will pray with for vocations. Each week a different family will bring the chalice into their home. As a family, you will pray for vocations then pass the chalice to another family. When we have a young man ordained as Priest, he will be presented with this chalice. Please consider joining us, sign up to be one of the families as our chalice starts to travel around the Holy Trinity Community.

FAST AND ABSTINENCE REGULATION
It is the divine will that we do penance. The holy season of Lent is a time of penance. We are asked to respond voluntarily to the call of penance by undertaking some good works and observing certain penitential practices. According to the law of the Church, the requirement of fasting affects all those who have celebrated their 19th birthday but have not yet celebrated their 60th birth-day. The rule of fasting is that only one full meal a day may be taken. Two small meals taken “to maintain sufficient strength” are allowed, but together should not equal a full meal. Absti-nence refers to refraining from eating meat. The common esti-mation of the community is used to determine what falls under the category of meat. That would normally include beef, poultry, lamb and pork. The rule of abstinence binds all Catholics 14 years or older. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are to be ob-served as both a day of fast and abstinence and all Lenten Fridays should likewise be observed as days of abstinence. There is no particular legal sanction attached to failure in observance. As a Catholic Christian you will not lightly hold yourself excused, however, from the Lenten fast.
SCRUTINY
The word scrutiny comes from both the French and the Late Lat-in. Its original meaning was "those who search through piles of rubbish in the hope of finding something of". It also accented the Latin word, “scruta” which means "broken things, rags, or rub-bish." The modern English "scrutiny" is derived from this root, indicating a careful examination or inquiry. It often implies the search for a hidden mistake, misstatement, or incongruity. The word is specifically applied in our Roman Catholic Church to the examination of the catechumens or those under instruction in the faith. They are taught the creed and the Lord's Prayer, examined therein, and exorcized prior to baptism. The days of scrutiny varied at different periods from three to seven. From about the end of the 12th century, when it became usual to baptize infants soon after their birth instead of at stated times (Easter and Pente-cost), the ceremony of scrutiny was incorporated with that of the actual baptism. Currently, there are three moments for the scruti-nies to occur: the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Sundays of Lent. These are done in public in front of the entire congregation, and the candi-dates are dismissed before the Prayer of the Faithful. Only under grave circumstances can the scrutinies be dispensed, and only then by the local ordinary, who can dispense only two at most. The scrutinies are fully intended for the catechumens, that is, those who are to receive Baptism, Communion, and Confirma-tion. So, for the upcoming 3rd, 4th and 5th Sundays of Lent, we will be sharing that ritual with our RCIA Elect at the 9:30AM Liturgy, dismissing them at the time indicated above.

Reflection ~ Source of Truth
The Catholic Church is the source of Christ's truth. While you may not always understand or agree with that truth, it is the truth nonetheless. Because it is of God, truth has by its very nature a healing and comforting aspect to it. Although sometimes difficult, the truth will always lead you to the right place – a place of peace. If you are feeling the desire to distance yourself from the Church, you are moving away from the very thing that will bring you the abundant peace and joy you are seeking. As you reflect and dis-cern the impact of your divorce or separation on the rest of your life, it is best to remain engaged with the Church, her Sacraments, her teaching, and her community. So, go to Mass, go to reconcilia-tion, go to adoration in front of the Blessed Sacrament (if availa-ble), seek out (or start) a divorce ministry, stay plugged into your faith and your Church. Seek the Truth!
Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in company with scoffers.
Rather, the law of the LORD is his joy; and on his law he medi-
tates day and night. He is like a tree planted near streams of wa-
ter, that yields its fruit in season; Its leaves never wither; whatever
he does prospers. Psalm 1:1-3 Jesus then said to those Jews who believed in him, If you remain in
my word, you will truly be my disciples and you will know the
truth, and the truth will set you free - John 8:31-32
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY UPDATE
Thanks for a great effort today and especially for honoring your commitment to Habitat for Humani-ty. We sometimes struggle to get all those who signed up to come out to help us build but you came through for us. At the half way point of the build we are looking good. We shingled 3/4ths of the roof, finished up the second coat of paint on the house and installed all the soffit channels. We give a spe-cial thank you to the Morning Bible Study Group for providing delicious pasta, Caesar salad and strawberries for lunch and yum-my cookies for dessert. Thank you all. The photos from today have been posted on both Facebook and Shutterfly. See the links at the bottom of this email. If you would like join us on another Friday (that you are not already signed up for), just let us know and we will let you know when we need folks. Thanks once again for the super work today. The pictures from this weekend (Mar 28th & 29th) will be on the boards in the foyer NEXT weekend. Jack Wilder (Friday Team Lead)
Thanks for a terrific day today. Your hard work and enthusiasm made for great success on day 8. We completed the roof and sof-fits, window trim, shutters, front porch rails and all exterior paint-ing. We cleaned the interior and laid the paper floor cover in preparation for the sheet rock. We painted all the interior doors. We're sorry Mateo was not feeling well and went home but, then, Felipa arrived and joined the fun. We give a special thank you to George Palafox and team for the delicious lunch and desserts. The photos from today have been posted on both Facebook and Shutterfly. See the links at the bottom of this email. If you would like join us on another Saturday, just let us know and I will add you to the standby list. Thanks once again for the super work today.
