LIVE MASSES IN HOLY SPIRIT PARISH

Live Masses take place on Saturdays at 4 PM in both Kennebunk and Wells, and
on Sundays at 8 & 10 AM in Kennebunk and at 9 & 11 AM in Wells. Weekday
Masses are at 8 AM in Wells and at 9 AM in Kennebunk. All Masses continue
to have a maximum allowance of 50 people per Mass. The 4 PM, 9 AM, & 11
AM weekend Masses, and the 8 AM weekday Masses are being streamed live on
our website. Only the 4 PM & 9 AM weekend Masses are being recorded,
links to which are available on our website for future viewing. Bishop Deeley
continues to exempt all from the obligation to attend weekend Mass.

PROCESS FOR SIGNING UP FOR MASSES
Mass reservations are now being taken over the phone. You must call in your reservation by
Friday at 12 Noon to ensure a seat at your chosen Mass. You may call in for two weekend
Masses per month (rather than just one) and 3 weekday Masses per week. Also, please feel free
to come early to any Mass to see if there are available seats. If so, you will be allowed to attend.
For those who have made reservations, please show up to Mass at least five minutes before
Mass begins; otherwise, there is a possibility that your reservation will be given to someone
who shows up in the event a seat is available. Social distancing and mandatory mask wearing
remains in effect.

Please call 2076465605 to reserve seats for Masses at St. Mary in Wells (4 PM Sat., 9 &11 AM
Sun., & 8 AM on weekdays), and 2079856252 for Masses at St. Martha in Kennebunk (4 PM
Sat., 8 &10 AM Sun., & 9 AM on weekdays).

If you leave a message, please indicate the church and the Mass day/time, as well as your phone
number (since Kennebunk is forwarded to Wells when not being covered).

R: There are designated seats due to distance requirements. Since those seats must be
sanized aer each Mass, we need to be sure that only the designated seats will have been used.

Those who are elderly, vulnerable, have certain illnesses, or who are not selfambulatory, should prob-
ably not attend but, instead, watch a livestreamed Mass.
All must wear a mask (brought with them) at all times in church and remain at least six feet from
others.
Those from outside of Maine who have not quarantined for 14 days in Maine may not attend Mass.
When entering church, please go to your designated seat with mask on and remain at least six feet from
others. Those living in the same household may sit together.
Communion is in the form of the Host only and will be received in the hand. Please remain six feet
from one another in the Communion line. Move from seat to the line by way of the back or middle cross-
over aisle of the church, always maintaining six feet apart and wearing a mask. There will be one single
line down the middle aisle to receive Communion from the priest only. After receiving Communion,
please do not return to your pew; rather, you are asked to exit the church and return to your vehicle where
you may continue to pray if you desire. Please take a bulletin as you exit.

*PLEASE REFRAIN FROM RESTROOM USE UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY*

Thank you for your cooperation!
T) E H O

The Eucharistic Host may only be given to extraordinary ministers to take with them during
Communion at Mass if they have been authorized by the priest beforehand, and only if the
Host is being taken to someone who lives in the same home in which the extraordinary
minister lives. It is not to be taken anywhere else due to pandemic concerns. Thank you!

SANITIZING CHURCHES
Now that “live” Masses are once again
taking place, our churches need to be
closed outside of Mass times due to the
need to sanitize the seats before each
Mass. For those who would like to pray
at church, in Wells, there are two out-
door areas which are conducive:
 On the bench by
the small statue of
Our Lady near the
entrance to the
parking area.
 At the two lawn
chairs in front of
the large statue of
Our Lady and the
baby Jesus near the entrance of the
church (which is very close to the
tabernacle inside the church).

Similar prayer sites are “in the works”
for Kennebunk.

Thank you for your consideration.
Congratulations,
Father Fred
Morse, on the
25th anniversary
of your ordina-
tion to the priest-
hood on June 24!
Thank you for
your ministry, and may God bless
you as you continue to do His
work in ministering to His people.

year’s parish fair has been can-

fair, however, the money raffle
will still take place. Within the
next few months, a letter will be
sent out, asking for the purchase

the usual ticket books but, rather, a letter which
will include raffle information.

13th Sunday in
Ordinary Time
When we were baptized,
we were baptized into Christ’s death. Take a mo-
ment to ponder these profound words. We were
baptized into death. In every sense of the word, we
are asked to die. This is not just about our final
death but about daily deaths due to inconvenience,
discomfort, pain, loss, or others’ needs. This is an
incredible epiphany given the way we very often ap-
proach our lives. We do everything to avoid death,
let alone encounter it! Many avoid pain, discomfort,
inconvenience, uneasiness, change, interference, and
suffering of any kind. We put a lot of energy into
finding the easiest and least inconvenient way
through many things. Even holding the door open
for a stranger or saying hello to someone in the store
can be major undertakings.
We are called to die. One of the biggest wakeup
calls we can have is realizing that life is not about
us! There are millions of other people sharing life
on this planet with whom I have a relationship.
Does my life celebrate those relationships? The
most distracting question we can ask is, “What do I
want to do?” The more focused, faithfilled ques-
tion is, “What do I need to do?” What I need to do
may not be what I want to do. However, asking this
question more frequently will teach us how to more
purposefully and intentionally live so we can be a
life giving vessel for others. When we learn to live
more sacrificially, to put the needs of others before
our own, and to not always seek our own self
interest, we become aware of what baptism into
Christ’s death is really all about. These are the roots
of virtue and the seedbed for justice, tolerance, soli-
darity, love, and peace.
Learning how to accept all the “small deaths” and
sacrifices life calls us to teaches us how to approach
our final death. All deaths ask us to empty ourselves
into something or someone else. Whether we empty
ourselves into the heart and soul of another human
being or empty ourselves into God at the moment of
our final death, new life is always received and nur-
tured. A heart that exclusively seeks its own interest
is a heart that is closed to love. A heart that pours
itself out to others and is content with being emptied
is a heart that has been touched by and open to mer-
cy. It is a heart that overflows with joy.
