PRO-LIFE NEWS A message from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops regarding the Freedom of Choice Act: The "Freedom of Choice Act": The Most Radical Abortion Legislation in U.S. History. Here are some facts you should know. Fact: In allowing and promoting abortion, FOCA goes far beyond even Roe. Fact: FOCA will invalidate laws to protect a woman from unsafe abortion clinics and to ensure that she is informed about abortion. Fact: FOCA will require taxpayers to pay for abortions. Fact: FOCA will require states to allow "partial-birth" and other late-term abortions. Fact: FOCA will require states to allow abortions by non-physicians. Fact: FOCA will bar the law protecting a right of conscientious objection to abortion. Fact: FOCA will deny parents an opportunity to be involved in their minor daughter's abortion decision. A vote for FOCA is a vote against modest, reasonable, widely supported laws that promote and protect women's health, ensure informed consent, protect minors and ensure parental involvement, safeguard rights of conscience, and respect the desire of most citizens not to pay for abortions with their tax dollars. We need your help! Holy Spirit will be participating in a post card campaign to inform our Senators and Representatives to vote against this very destructive bill. During the weekend of January 24th/25th, there will be post cards inserted in the bulletin. PLEASE TAKE THOSE POST CARDS, FILL THEM OUT AND MAIL THEM!!!! If you are unable to mail them yourself, please contact any one of the members of the Pro-Life Committee to mail them for you.

“Life is Worth Living…and Defending!”

Annual March for Life – January 20-23, 2009 - Coordinated by the Archdiocesan Pro-Life, Youth and

Young Adult Ministries - Nearly 800 participants from the Archdiocese of

Indianapolis will be attending the March for Life in Washington, DC this year on the cusp of the Presidential Inauguration!

- They will be present, praying and protesting peacefully at the time the Freedom of Choice Act’s (FOCA) future will be determined in Congress.

- The high school students and young adults will be arriving by bus, car and a donated plane!

- Archbishop Daniel Buechlein and eight priests will lead the group in Holy Mass.

Please join us in praying a Universal Rosary at the following times: Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009 @ 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009 @ 8:00 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009 @ 8:00 p.m. “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born, I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5

Dear Parishioners, This is urgent. We must take action. If you want your freedoms protected, you must write your Senators and Representatives to oppose the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA). The ramifications of FOCA are catastrophic if it gets passed into law. Write your Senators: Richard Lugar and Evan Bayh; and your U.S. House of Representatives: Dan Burton (District 5), Mike Pence (District 6), and Andre Carson (District 7). Next weekend, January 24th/25th, there will be post cards inserted in the bulletin. PLEASE TAKE THOSE POST CARDS, FILL THEM OUT AND MAIL THEM. See below and read the facts about FOCA.

Peace & God’s Blessings, Fr. J.J. Riedman
