The annual HNA Jogathon, planned for Wednes-day, September 21, promises another fun after-

noon when all four class years rally together in sup-port of the HNA athletic program. Cougar sports teams continue to be recognized at the league, district, state, regional, and national levels. With exceptional coaching and with more than 90% of our students participating in the athletic program, the Academy is sure to continue its notable successes this year.

What’s a Jogathon? HNA’s teams could not attain their outstanding achievements without the financial support generat-ed by the Jogathon. Students will soon be contact-ing family and friends by postal mail to gather contributions for their laps around the Montlake track. They greatly appreciate the HNA community’s enthusiasm for ath-letics, not only in your attendance at sports events but also in support of the Jogathon. This event makes many resources available to our teams, such as field/pool rentals, new uniforms and warm-ups, coaches’ education and first-aid/CPR certification, championship banners and plaques, and additional weight-room equipment.

We appreciate the support of parents as their daughters collect 15 names (or more) to whom they will postal-mail a form letter that explains the fun of the Jogathon and the cause the event supports.

Support Your HNA Athletic Community Be aware that the mailing list each student generates is used solely for the Jogathon and is returned to the student’s academic folder, which is maintained while she attends the Academy. The Jogathon is an ideal time for parents, rela-tives, friends, and alumnae to support our community. Parents who wish to have their daughter excused from writing solicitation letters may instead send a check for $200; all students must still participate in the Jogathon events on Sep-tember 21. Classes are dismissed at 11:25 a.m. for lunch; students report to the track by 1 p.m. They may walk from HNA or make other arrangements. Dismissal for the day is at 2:30 p.m. from the Montlake track.

Directions and transportation information will be distributed to students through their homerooms in mid-September. If you have questions, please call the Athletic Office at (206) 720-7831.

Fall Sports Underway

Crew, cross country, golf, soccer, swimming and volleyball all start competition with in the next 10 days. Remind your daughters to dress for Seattle weather; despite the recent hot spell, it can quickly get cold and damp in the fall! Please come out to cheer on your favorite Cougar athletes as they represent the Academy with superb talent and sportsmanship.

Schedules for all fall sports are posted on the HNA website under Calendar/Athletic Calendar. Athletic schedules are subject to change on short notice; for updates, use the online calendar’s automatic notification features to get notified of updates (click “Other Event Actions” on the top right of each calendar page, then choose “Notify Me of Changes”). Or you can call the Athletic Office at (206) 720-7831 for updates. We urge you to take advantage of all the featureson the school’s online calendar, which also allows you to quickly add an eventto your own digital calendar, such as Outlook or iCal, and to set e-mail or textreminders.

Metro League Ticket Information for Fall Sports There is no charge for regular-season Metro League contests in the league sports in which HNA competes in the fall (cross country, golf, soccer, swimming, volleyball). Metro League football games, such as O’Dea High School’s, have an admission charge. For HNA post-season Metro competitions, prices will be $6 for adults and students with-out activity cards, $4 for senior citizens and students with activity cards.

Lockers in the Gym Please encourage your daughter to purchase a $1 lock for a locker in the gym locker room. Locks may be obtained from Mrs. London in the Athletic Office. It is important to lock up all valuables, books, and clothing during sports practices. Students should not leave any belongings in the gym hallway.

Athletic Bags Students may purchase a sturdy, roomy athletic bag in school colors may order one through the Athletic Office for $65. Students may have bags personalized with their names. Contact Mrs. London (llondon@holynames-sea.org).

Cougar Club Merchandise HNA Cougar Club Merchandise is available for sale through the Athletic Office. A list of available items is available on the website. Please contact Ms. Lacey London (llondon@holynames-sea.org) with requests.

Parents, family, and friends attending Cougar athletic events in the McAteer Lee Gymnasium this school year will use a special, temporary access to enter and leave the gym. See map above—click the map for a downloadable PDF.

The former atrium entrance is not accessible during construction of the Fitness Center/Commons project. On game days, use the walkway from the southeast corner of the gym (Roy and 22nd Avenue) to access the temporary entrance/exit on the northeast corner of the gym. The green dot on the map marks the temporary entrance.

Note that the gym parking lot is closed for construction.
