FAZtor ’s Notes By Fr. Arnold Zamora What a great celebration we had last week for the 75th Anniversary of our school. What a huge turnout, there were well over 500 alumni who showed up for the memorable

occasion. They enjoyed it so much that some stayed till 8:00 PM. So, let me again congratulate the committee, the people who have worked so hard in the preparation and the actual cel-ebration. I would like tip my hat most especially to our HN School alumni coordinator and parish secretary, Colleen Durkin, who has worked with so much passion and dedication for this event. It was really wonderful sight to see a lot of our school alum-ni coming back to Holy Name. It reminded me of a story about man who was sightseeing just after having arrived in heaven, and noticed several persons dragging a ball and chain around with them. On expressing surprise that such a thing could occur in heaven, he was informed that they came from Holy Name and that was the only way they could be kept from going back. There are more events to look forward too as we start the new month of October. Our Rosary Group led by Carmen and Domingo Palarca will be praying the Rosary every day in the chapel at 6:30PM. You are all invited to pray with them and honor our Blessed Mother. The feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated on Octo-ber 7th. The feast was instituted by Pope Pius V to celebrate the anniversary of the defeat of the Turkish fleet at the battle of Lepanto on the first Sunday in October 1571, which ended the threat of Muslim domination of the Mediterranean and was as-cribed in part to the prayers and processions of the Rosary con-fraternity in Rome. Later the feast was moved to the fixed date of 7 October. This year we celebrate the feast on the first Friday of the month and as we usually do every first Friday, we have a one hour adoration of the Blessed Sacrament after the 9:00AM mass. Spend time with the Lord! Pray with us! Mother Mary, pray for us! Our longtime parishioner, HN School Alumni ’43, school parent and former Faculty member, Marilyn McCarthy, passed away last week and we had her funeral last Friday. We extend our deepest condolences and fervent prayers to her family es-pecially to her husband of 63 years, Al, her seven children and thirteen grandchildren. Like our Mother Mary who stays in the hearts of her children, Marilyn will always stay in the hearts of her beloved children, relatives and friends. When we wake up, we take a moment to think about the privilege to be alive and healthy. The moment we start acting that life is a blessing, then we start to feel fully blessed. May you be fully blessed today!

LET GO AND LET GOD Many twelve-step programs use the phrase “Let go and let God.” In all their simplicity, these five words are the heart of today’s read-ings. For people who struggle with addictive behavior, these words plainly remind us that we can’t manage, control, or manipulate certain areas of our lives. How many times can we look back in our lives and find evidence of some plan at work other than our own? These are the moments when, for whatever reasons, we let someone greater than ourselves work the plan. We probably didn’t even recognize at the time that we were letting go of anything, but in retrospect, we see God’s hand and loving presence. It is our awareness of these mo-ments that gives us the courage and initiative to let go again later on. It is this courage and initiative that are highlighted in today’s readings. We come to call it “faith.” Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
