We Are Called to Build Bridges, Not Walls

What’s Your Talent — What’s Your Interest EVERYONE HAS SOMETHING TO GIVE. As a community of faith we believe that God has given us all that we need in order to accomplish the mission of Christ. And what is this mission? To be the light of the world! And how does one person or one par ish do that? We practice what we preach: Dying to ourselves that others may have life!

As Matthew’s Jesus says of the “hungry crowd”: “There is no need for them to go away; give them some food yourselves.” And this miracle’s bottom line is that it doesn’t take much to satisfy the “hungry crowd”!

Sharing our talents and interests and time are important. But the deeper issue of today’s Gospel is what happens when we give in the Spirit of Christ. Our talents, interests, and time accomplish more than we expect or intend. The simplest acts of kindness or ways of participating in parish life ripple into waves of care for others and our community. Words of encouragement fuel new energy and activity. What God can do with what we give in the name of Jesus is hard to imagine. Yet, our giving helps more people than we think possible — the “hungry crowds” — to believe in the love of God and God loving others through them too! This is what it means to be a “Eucharistic” community.

“We have only today to make Jesus known, loved, served, fed, clothed, sheltered.

Do not wait for tomorrow. Tomorrow, we will not have them if we do not feed them today.”

Blessed Teresa of Calcutta

So what do you have and really want to give in order for the mission of Christ to be accomplished in our parish? Any one of the members of our Pastoral Leadership Team can help you find the way or imagine new ways. Listed here today and in the coming weeks are needs we have now as well as more possibilities I hope to hear about from you.

CHOOSE TO BE CHEERFUL No matter what kind of a day we are hav-

ing, we have a choice as to how we’re going to re-spond to it. We can choose to be angry, miserable, or down. We can choose to gripe, whine, or com-plain. We can choose to sulk, criticize, or degrade. We can choose to belittle or bemoan. We can choose to feel sorry for ourselves. We can choose to be a victim, or, we can choose to be CHEERFUL1 Everyone has days when Murphy’s law grabs them by the throat or when everything that could possibly go wrong does. But the people who are successful survivors, the ones who have great days, are those who choose to be CHEERFUL. Everyone has heard the term “mindset.” The idea that we can set our minds however we choose is a good one. It’s as if there is an attitude meter inside people’s heads, and they can set that meter to deter-mine how they respond to the world around them. What’s you mindset? Are you choosing to be CHEERFUL AND POSITIVE, or are you choosing to be gloomy and negative? The choice is yours. Have a blessed week..and be sure to make the right choices. S. Rose, SSND, RN

How does our parish attract inquirers each year who consider becoming Catholic? The short answer is you! When a parish has inquirers year after year, it is the fruit of the Holy Spirit as parish members opens their hearts to welcome others. Members of a welcoming and evangelizing community take seriously their call to share the good news of salvation. It happens in parish families, in the workplace, in gatherings with friends and neighbors, and in daily contacts. Do you know someone who might be interested in learning more about the Catholic Church. Perhaps a personal invitation is all they need. For more information, contact Deacon George at 314-868-2310 or by email: [email protected]

On behalf of myself and my sisters, I would like to express our sincere thanks to the parish for its many acts of kindness towards my mother and our family during her illness, death and burial. I would espe-cially like to thank Fr. Mike for his kind ministry towards my mother, along with Theresa and the choir who sang so beautifully at the funeral and those who helped to prepare and serve the wonder-ful luncheon afterwards. I have to reserve a special thanks to Sr. Rose who so faithfully helped to feed my mother with the Eucharist at a time when she had such difficulty consuming earthly food. Thanks to all the others who helped in so many ways, par-ticularly those who were present at the funeral. Your kindness made a huge difference! Your ac-tions prove that Christ did not leave us orphans. Thanks again. God bless.

Herman Krueger.
