Twenty Seventh Sunday of

Ordinary Time Oct. 7, 2018

Reading I: Genesis 2:18-24 Responsorial Psalm: 128:1-2,3,4-5,6 Reading II: Hebrews 2:9-11 Gospel: Mark 10:2-16

Theme: “Let the children come to me; do not prevent them,

for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these” (Gospel).

A son asked his Dad, “What is the difference between love and marriage?” Dad said, “love is blind and marriage is an eye opener.”

Considering what Jesus said about marriage (therefore what God has joined together, no human being must separate) vis-à-vis the reality of marriage then and now, it still is and seriously. Marriage is a relevant issue and will remain necessary topic in every culture and society.

In Western cultures, more than 90 percent of people marry by age 50. Healthy marriages are good for couples’ mental and physical health. They are also good for children; growing up in a happy home protects children from mental, physical, educational and social problems. However, about 40 to 50 percent of married couples in the United States divorce. The divorce rate for subsequent marriages is even higher. Statistics show that in the U.S., 50 percent of first marriages, 67 of second, and 74 of third marriages end in divorce. (American Psychological Association). Marriage is a sacrament where God is made visible in the love of husband and wife. As God’s gift to the Church, marriage is a partnership of love with equal right between man and woman. “The two shall become one flesh and they are no longer two, but one body” (Genesis). "In creating 'male and female,' God gives man and woman an equal personal dignity" (Catechism no. 2334).

As we strive to follow the precepts of the Lord on marriage, we reach out to all who attempted marriage but were far from ideal. Our hearts and prayers go to all marriages always wishing them happiness and fidelity to their vows and promises. Let us pray: God our Father, teach us to be faithful to you and to all our vows. Grant us peace and joy in relationship and family, Amen.

October is the month of rosary and missions, we welcome Fr. Thathireddy Vijaya Bhaskar or simply Fr. Vijay, a Salesian priest from India to do annual mission appeal. Let us be generous.

Lectura I: Génesis 2: 18-24 Salmo responsorial: 128: 1-2,3,4-5,6 Lectura II: Hebreos 2: 9-11 Evangelio: Marcos 10: 2-16

Thathireddy Vijaya Bhaskar o

Pastoral Reflection By Raymund Miles, Pastoral Council Member

I invited the Holy Spirit and reflected for this weekend’s readings and the message that touched my heart is: relationship

In the first reading: The Lord, God Himself is the author of the sacrament of marriage where the man and woman become one flesh. “It is not good for the man to be alone I will make a suitable partner for him," and together their hearts were open to love, and be with God in the garden. God then gave us his only son, Jesus who loves us so much he stepped down from his throne, became human and experienced life in all it’s temptations without sin. He became the perfect sacrifice to bring us back into relationship with God once again. For my wife and me the Holy Spirit has brought us into a relationship with our Lord. This relationship has changed our mindset of who God is, who we truly are and the true reality of the world. We have experienced peace, mystery, guidance, knowledge, wisdom and so much more. Understanding the truth, the purpose of life, and by the power of the Holy Spirit we have witnessed signs and wonders, the Glory of God. I can say my wife and I are truly living! Finally in the Gospel, Jesus reestablishes what marriage is, a sacred relationship that is shared throughout a life time, and He model it, He is the groom and we are the bride.
