WELCOME AND BLESSINGS
If you are not of the Catholic faith, please feel free to come up at Com-munion, cross your arms and receive
a blessing from Father or Deacon.
Please Park in Holy
Family parish spots, not
the PRIVATE parking for
apartments. Thank You!
These past few weeks have been
so beautiful and hopeful with the
weather. Everyone is loving the
extension of Summer, filling eve-
ryone up with energy and joy.
There are many times we all need
a “fill up”, especially when we be-
come tired, sick, hopeless, alone or
facing huge obstacles. Just like a good working car, our
body, mind and soul, need to be filled up with right things
(good gas :)) to ensure we “work right” and don’t
“breakdown” when needed most. How do you “fill up” in
your life, faith, your spirit? What do you do that will help
you get the “energy and joy” from the life you are living?
This week, we have a “once in a while” moment to share
in a County Parish MISSION. This is the good gas in your
car, this is the “soul gas” and it will fill you, touch you and
inspire you and your faith in a whole new way. Take time
to come and listen, be challenged to think a different
thought, hear something new. The MISSION will lift us up
for the work to be done for those around us but also to
bring us individually closer and deeper in our relationship
with GOD. GOD is great and He wants to be great with
each of us, on a daily basis. Come spend time with GOD,
listening to Father Collins and journey
with us on the MISSION. As well, as we
come closer to the end of October, let’s
all be grateful and thankful for the weather, but also for
all the people of faith using their gifts to help fill up the
lives of many. GOD is very good! Glenna xo
MISSION PRAYER
Dear God, Source of all life and light,
We come be fore you to ask your bless-
ing on our Parish Mission. We differ
from one another in many ways: in ages, in interests, and
in experiences. Still we share in being called to serve you
as members of your Holy Church.
As we prepare for our Mission fill our hearts with your
grace, so that we might be open to your message. Heal
our wounds, strengthen our commitments, rekindle our
love, and remind us of our worth in your eternal plan. In-
dividually we can do good works, but encouraged by our
parish family, and supported by their prayers, we can be
all you desire us to be. In confidence we make our prayer
through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen

In SERVICE, In MINISTRY
FATHER CRAIG Anointing of the Sick
in context of Mass
For many of our senior parishion-
ers the term that is/was used is “the Last Rites” which
meant the last rituals that a person experiences before
their death. In the Second Vatican 2 documents, the
Church invited a renewed look at all sacraments. When
they looked at the Sacrament of the Sick, with a deeper
understanding in biblical studies, they saw an expanded
understanding of the ministry of Jesus. In the scriptures
Jesus was present to those who were ill with his healing,
consoling and merciful presence. This is the heartbeat of
the Anointing of the Sick.
For the Holy Family Parish Nov 4/5 and in the month of
Nov for the County, we will be celebrating the Anointing
of the Sick in the context of Mass. Special prayers will
occur. The “Homily” will explain what and why we are
doing this. After that people may come forward, like we
do for communion, and I will anoint them with the sign of
the cross on their foreheads and gently rest my hand up-
on their head. Suffering comes in many
forms and may not be visible to all peo-
ple. We are allowed to anoint anyone of
“a senior age”, (I’ll leave that one up to you). In fact, any-
one who stands in front of me that day will be anointed.
Hopefully this helps parishioners prepare for this wonder-
ful action of Jesus as the Divine Physician. Once finished,
we move into the rest of Mass. Due to the number of
parishioners in Amherst at Mass, this celebration may
exceed an hour, but not by much. However, it is a won-
derful & powerful moment in community life.

In Our Archdiocese Family
In Our World-Wide Family with Pope Francis! Joy is sure Sign of True Hope: “Dear Brothers and Sisters: In our continuing catech-esis on Christian hope, I would now like to speak of our calling to be missionaries of hope. October is traditionally dedicated to reflection on our participation in the Church’s mission. St. Francis of Assisi, whose feast is Oct. 4th, can serve as our mod-el in this regard. Francis was a true missionary of the joyful hope born of Christ’s victory over death and our own share in His Risen life. Jesus ask us to be witnesses of that same hope, confident in the transforming power of His Spirit at work in our hearts and in our world. Joy is the sure sign of true Christian hope, for we know that evil will not have the upper hand and that God’s love, revealed on the cross, will ulti-mately triumph. Certainly, there are times when the gift of hope proves costly. This is the case with so many of our fellow Christians who presently experience persecu-tion and with the martyrs in every age. Their witness inspires us to continue to hope in Christ’s promises. As missionaries of hope, may we rejoice in God’s saving power, never lose heart and help others to look to the futures with confidence.” - text from Pope Francis’ general audience at Vatican on Oct 4th, 2017
