Ground Breaking for New Fellowship Hall!!

This past Friday we had the groundbreaking for our new fellowship hall. I want to thank everyone who came out for bearing with the elements to celebrate this milestone. We didn’t have a lot of time to plan it because of the nature of lining up schedules (most importantly the Bishop’s) and a few other factors. If you were out of town and are disappointed you missed it, don’t worry—you can plan on being here for the ribbon cutting! Well, there’s a lot to take place before that happens, and a lot has occurred up to this point. I would like to take the time to thank some of the leadership of our campaign team. This is a group that included my “kitchen cabinet” of planners and strategizers, as well as our honorary and general chairmen. LaLoggia, Dr. Glenn and Mary Milos, John F. and Fran Morrissey and Brian and Mary Vogrinc A special thanks goes to Julia Clay, who is now working for the diocese, but was on staff with us and helped us shepherd the fundraising portion of the capital campaign. She kept us on task with a sweet smile and a firm determination. The whole parish staff, as well, has done their part to make this day possible; so, I thank them for their help and for persevering through the challenges that they will face in this next year, as we try to manage programs while so much of the campus is under construction. Besides all those I mention by name, the whole parish is owed thanks. All of you have done something quite significant in terms of what we raised. We did it in a climate within which it is very difficult for churches to raise money and to grow and expand. There is in our culture an increased secularization and then there’s the tragic Church scandals that didn’t make it any easier. And what we have accomplished goes well beyond the money that was raised. In fact, more significant than that is the good spirit in the community that has occurred from the time we first contemplated such an endeavor and which continues to this day. Now the rubber meets the road (or asphalt in this case!). Construction will start soon, and no doubt, things will be pretty hectic as the parking lot gets reconfigured and slabs of cement are poured. I ask for your continued patience as we walk this final leg of the journey together. We will give you a sense of the project’s scope and what disruption there will be to the campus when we receive it from our Construction Manager.

Pardon Our Dust… We are now entering into the “Pardon our Dust” phase of things. With God’s grace we will get through this together. I know it won’t be easy. Any of you who have remodeled your kitchen or bathrooms can identify. It can be unsettling at times; but I also know we will be better for it. The physical challenges will be a great opportunity to grow spiritually. Keeping the bigger picture and the end goal in the forefront of our minds will be helpful. We should remind ourselves that just as the founders of this parish made sacrifices to build the church we now enjoy, so too, are we making sacrifices that generations to come will benefit from. Along with Lori, Mike is a Co-Director of Evangelize All Ministries, an apostolate that promotes God Is! – a powerful plan for parish evangelization and renewal. He is the author of two books, Mercy and Hope and Prayers for Catholic Men. Mike received his Master’s in Theology from Holy Apostles College and Seminary.

We all remember the Lord’s response. We have many children in our community who are unprepared to meet the bitter cold our Midwestern winters bring. They need coats!!! The Knights of Columbus will be collecting clean coats after all Masses on November 16 & 17. The coats should be new or gently used, including smaller sizes for infants and toddlers.
