This is the advice I heard from professors and other ministry leaders who devote their efforts to developing new and interesting ministries. That advice comes to mind when I think of the recent synergy around on-going spiritual formation at Holy Covenant. There seems to be a new and exciting buzz among people who are interested in finding ways to enrich their spiritual lives. I believe God is already at work and all we have to do is plug in! During the Offertory moments in worship the last three weeks, we have heard three dynamic personal testimonies of how small groups have brought meaning and depth to spiritual lives. Andy wrote an insightful article in the last newsletter which laid out the scriptural basis for on-going spiritual formation used by the first century church leaders. While these witnesses provide inspiration and a great food for thought, it seems to me that the stirring of Holy Spirit is at the center of this budding interest in small group experiences. In the last three weeks, I have had conversations face-to-face, over the telephone, and via email with persons who are interested in investigating their growing need for deeper spiritual connection with God and with each other. God is already at work, let's get plugged in! As Andy mentioned in his article, spiritual formation comes in many shapes and sizes. Currently at Holy Covenant, several groups meet on Sunday morning to share in study and fellowship during the Sunday school hour between the two worship services. We have a mid-week Bible study opportunity for women and a faithful book club that meets each Monday morning. The advantage of joining one of these groups is that you can get plugged in immediately! There are some new and interesting groups developing as well. Three groups are in the formational stages and we look for them to start by the end of February or sooner. One group is designed for mothers with young children and will meet mid-week twice a month. Another group will meet on Sunday mornings (9:45 - 10:45 am) and will cater to young adult singles and couples. The third group will commit to deeper discipleship focusing intentionally on the four components (Bible study, prayer, caring, and breaking of bread) outlined in Acts 2:42. Plugging into any of these groups can give you a chance to partner with others to plant and nurture a small group in a significant way! Do you feel God at work in you, tugging at your heart to "be" with God in a significant way? Is it time for you to plug in so that you can begin to practice being with the Lord in a deepening way in 2012? If so, please reach out to Andy, me ([email protected]), or Jana Jones ([email protected]) so that we may direct you in exploring the options available for your spiritual growth at Holy Covenant. God is Already at Work--Plug In!  "Look around to see where God is already at work and then plug in!" This is the advice I heard from professors and other ministry leaders who devote their efforts to developing new and interesting ministries.
