Lesson 1 The Gospel There is a bi g g ap between man and God . This g ap is caused by our sin . A ll reli g ions are trying to solve this problem, and man tries to build bridges to God (prayers, offering sacrifices, money to poor, etc.). But only God can bridge the gap to us: He did this by sending His Son Jesus to die for our sins. (Romans 3:23 and 6:23) There is more g ood news : after 3 days Jesus came bac k to life . He lived on earth another 40 days and then went up into Heaven, promising He would always be near us through the Holy Spirit. That is good news because we don’ t worship a dead god. Jesus is alive. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4) How do we become new? The Bible says we need to repent and believe in Jesus . Repentance means to change your mind which leads to a change in action. This means that we will change our mind about living our sinful way and begin living God's way. (Mark 1:15) We need a livin g God to chan g e our lives . The Bible promises that if we become disciples of Jesus, we will become new people. Only a living Jesus can change our hearts and make us into a new, clean person. (2 Corinthians 5:17) We are saved by our faith in what Jesus has done for us on the cross . Because God has made a way to us through Jesus’ death on the cross, we no longer have to “ try” and get to heaven by doing good things. Now we do good things because we love God and His ways. But our salvation comes only through Jesus’ sacrifice. (Ephesians 2:8-10) Jesus promised that after He left, God’s spirit would live inside of us . Thisisthe Holy Spirit. He does many wonderful things for us like convict us of sin and help us to understand the Bible. But the greatest thing He does for us is to guarantee our place in Heaven! No one, not even ourselves, can remove us from God’s family. (E p hesians 1 :13-14 )
