HOLQA bejn il-hbieb “Creating a real sense of community in our parish” The creation of a shared goal To create a real sense of community one must make sure that everyone shares some core interest, and what better interest to share than the future of one’s own life. A parish is a space where the faithful prepare themselves for life ever- lasting, while helping each other to endure the tribulations of this world. All those involved in helping the parish with its daily chores must make sure that everyone is aware of this mission and understands the part they play in helping to achieve it. The sense of working together to achieve a common goal will help to bring the parishioners together as a community. Christ is the centre of the parish It goes without saying that Christ, God made man, is the real focus of parish life. In comparison anything else is at best transitory and ephemeral. Having Christ at the centre implies that all involved in the life of the parish firmly believe that, to be truly useful in the building up of community life, one must continually better oneself, overcoming those tendencies that make one gravitate towards self-interest.
