    PRODUCTION FACILITIES

    y The station has a good professional audio studio. Apart

    from using Cool Edit Pro Software, the community and

    students are able to handle Nuendo Software very

    efficiently for the production. There around six flashrecorders which we use to record on field.

    MANAGEMENT STRUCTURE

    y The well constituted staff and volunteer structure hashelped the station to increase their broadcast hours fromtwo hours to a ten hour of daily broadcast.

    y The studentsofthe visualcommunicationdepartment of the college support the communitymembersto produce the programmes, and the technicalstaffat the station takes care of the transmission

    procedures. The stationmanagercoordinates theprogramme production and transmission. The Co-ordinator manages the overall funtions of the station.TheDirectortakes care of the financial aspects of the station.

    y Pudhiya Jananam has provided a platform to the studentsof Visual Communication. Along with the communitymembers, they identify key issues. Apart from creatingawareness on these issues, the station has also improvedthe capacities of the community in writing scripts for the

    radio programmes, anchoring, participating in groupdiscussions, presenting live shows etc. This helped thestation to be more participatory.

    Puthiya Jananam is the series supported by theDepartment of Science and Technology to disseminate andcreate awareness on science, health and nutritious issuesspecifically targeted at enlightening women of Jeeva Nagarand Dharmanathapuram in the HCCR coverage zone.

    yThe series aims at empowering and improving the qualityof life of women through dissemination of scientificknowledge and thereby, the entire community.

    HCCR has produced around 500 episodes of programme onAids, Cancer, Pregnancy, Child care, Tuberculosis, Anemia,Nutrition, water borne disease and other communicableand non communicable diseases.

    y The goal of every programme is to keep listeners interestedand equip themselves with sound knowledge in unknownissues primarily on science, health and nutrition.

    y Jeeva Nagar

    Jeeva Nagar has around 1000 house holds. Majority ofthe women here are housewives. Most of them live instores with no proper toilet and drainage facilities.They do not seem to be bothered about cleanliness.Hindus, Muslims and Christians live in harmony here.It is less than a Kilometer from Holy Cross College.

    It has around 500 house holds. Majority of the

    Womenfolk in this community are housewives, somework as house maids. The men folk are mostlycobblers.They live in huts. This is truly a slum in thesense there are no toilets in any of the houses and they

    sleep, cook, bathe, and wash outside the house.Majority of the population are Christians and Hindus.It is 2 Kilometers from Holy Cross College
