Hollings Faculty:At the heart of the action in All SaintsThe new Hollings Faculty is in the middle of All Saints Campus,adjacent to our Manchester Art School and overlooking AllSaints Park, popular with students as the outdoor place to meetand relax with friends.

The students and staff of Hollings will be at theheart of the action in Oxford Road, Manchester; itis home to one of the largest university studentpopulations in Europe with nearly 80,000 studentslocated here.

The All Saints campus is already home to theFaculty of Business and Law, Faculty ofHumanities, Languages and Social Science,Manchester School of Art and the Faculty ofScience and Engineering.

It is a busy, exciting and social campus for theexchange of creative ideas and knowledge amongstlike-minded students.

The campus has excellent transport links to thecity's stations, metro stops and bus connections. It's just a five minute walk to Oxford Road Stationand a 15 minute walk to Piccadilly.

Student HubThe Hollings Faculty has its own dedicated StudentHub located on the ground floor of the RightonBuilding.

In addition, the University's main Student Hub,located in the same building as the BusinessSchool, offers large, flexible spaces where studentsfrom across the University can meet, eat andaccess information.

The Student Hub is the focal point of theUniversity's advisory teams and you can accessadvice and information on a variety of issuesrelated to living and studying, including:

LibraryThe University’s central library with over onemillion books, thousands of digital books andresources is also located here. For most of theacademic year the library is open 24 hours a day,seven days a week.

Hollings Faculty has been described as the academic andcreative bridge between the arts, business and science. Inmoving to All Saints we are at the heart of the studentexperience with over 20,000 students in multiple disciplines.

Our faculty name is synonymous with creativity and innovation,and we have a long tradition of professional collaboration anddevelopment. The faculty has strong links with industry andprofessional bodies that help to ensure that our courses andresearch projects are relevant to the needs of industry.

Specialist facilities for Hospitality StudentsHospitality students will have new, state-of-the-artequipment with professional kitchen, functioning barand seminar room on the fifth floor at the FieldenCampus in nearby Didsbury, just a short bus ridefrom the All Saints campus.

Additional facilities for Food andNutrition StudentsThe practical elements of the microbiology,chemistry and biochemistry units within thenutrition and food courses will be taught in theexcellent laboratories at John Dalton. Using classicalanalytical techniques such as titration, colorimetrictests and nitrogen determination plus newtechnologies such as PCR, students will be able tocarry out thorough nutritional, microbial andbiochemical analyses of food and drinks to test thevery latest theories in food and nutritional science.

Placement and Employability ZoneHollings Placement and Employability Zone islocated at the entrance to the Righton building. The Placement and Employability team offer acomprehensive service to all Hollings students seekingplacements and other work opportunities, and supportand guidance on all aspects of placements andemployability such as CV preparation, recruitment and selection techniques and working overseas.

Student Hub at Righton Student services within the Faculty will be providedvia the Student Hub from the start of the 2013/14academic session. The Hub counter will be locatedon the ground floor at Righton, next to the link withthe Cavendish building.

Touchdown ZonesEach floor of the Cavendish Building will feature atleast one student Touchdown Zone. These areas willinclude comfortable seating, where you can relax andmeet your friends, catch up on some emails or meetto discuss group project work. There will be lockersfor student storage. You can also make use of theother numerous touch down points throughout therest of the campus.

Student Support OfficerJuliette Leeks, whose office is located in the RightonBuilding, will provide support and advice on a rangeof issues related to university life and guidance tohelp you achieve your goals.

Postgraduate study suiteThe Hollings Faculty has a thriving and activeresearch community that coordinates, supports andpromotes research, innovation and enterprise.

As part of the multi-million pound refurbishment ofthe Hollings Faculty, dedicated spaces has beendeveloped on the second floor of Cavendish Buildingfor postgraduate students on taught programmes andactive researchers.

Postgraduate Research Students Our research students (who include MSc, MA, MPhiland PhD) will formally join the existing ManchesterInstitute for Research and Innovation in Art andDesign (MIRIAD) research centre, located on thesecond floor of Righton Building.

Access and Security

Main entrancen The main access into both the Righton andCavendish Buildings is via the Righton doorswhich are situated on Lower Chatham Street.

Swipe card accessn A swipe card system has been installed toprovide controlled access to certain areas ofthe building.

n The University requires all members of itscommunity, whether students or staff to carry their MMU ID card at all times onUniversity premises and to present theircard for checking upon reasonable requestby a member of the University or StudentUnion security staff.

n Your existing MMU student card will enable you to access the relevant offices and teaching rooms. Your classes may betimetabled in other buildings across theAll Saints Campus and you will needyour swipe card to access these areas.

n The access control system will disengage inthe event of fire alarm activation and isremotely monitored by the University'ssecurity staff from the Security Control Room.

Disabled Accessn The floors are level and there is a passengerlift to the upper floors of the CavendishBuilding.

Securityn In addition to the traditional key lock system,the front doors of the Righton Building arealso fitted with a sophisticated, centrallycontrolled electronic access system, providinga high level of security.

n The building requires swipe card access soplease remember to carry your student ID cardwith you at all times.

n Keep expensive university equipment andyour own valuables out of sight and securelylocked away.

n The main reception desk is on the groundfloor of the Righton building and will be openat the times above. Reception contact numberis 0161 247 2600.

Reporting a fireIf you discover a fire or suspect the presence of a fire:

n Sound the fire alarm by operating the nearestbreak glass point.

n Summon the Fire Brigade by dialling 999 (or 9-999 from a university telephone).

n Call 2222 (on a university telephone) and givedetails of the fire to MMU Security.

n Only attack the fire with the nearest suitableequipment if you have been trained to do so.

n Leave the building by the nearest availableexit, closing all doors behind you.

n Proceed to your assembly point at the corner of All Saints Park adjacent to the public telephone boxes.

n Do not re-enter the building until officiallyinformed that it is safe to do so.

If you hear the continuous fire alarm:n Leave the building by the nearest exitavailable, closing all doors behind you.

n Proceed to your assembly point.

n Do not re-enter the building until officiallyinformed that it is safe to do so.

Assembly pointn All Saints Park adjacent to the publictelephone boxes.

Fire disabled refuge n Refuge areas are provided on the landings onthe main staircase in the Cavendish building.

n In the event of an emergency a fire marshal or coordinator will proceed to refuge area toassist the disabled person to be evacuatedfrom the building.

Fire alarm testingn The alarm system will be tested every week:this will be of a short duration, and evacuationis not required unless the alarm is continuous.

n An automatic fire alarm installation has beeninstalled to provide coverage throughout thebuilding by the use of smoke and heatdetectors and final exit manual call points.

n The fire alarm panel is located at reception inthe foyer area at the entrance to the building.In order to interpret the fire alarm signal, azone chart is provided next to the fire alarmpanel. A secondary alarm panel is situated atCavendish reception.

The fire alarm panel provides visual indicationto the fire brigade in the event of fire.

CAD studiosThere will be two new CAD studios on the secondfloor of Hollings, with high-spec PCs running thelatest versions of specialist software such asAutoCAD, Gerber Software, Optitex, Mock Shop,Adobe and Coral.

Multifunctional printersThere are plenty of new, multifunctional printerson site, which offer a huge amount of flexibility,with printing, scanning and copying all asstandard. You can even print from your owndevice, simply by emailing [email protected] your MMU account.

Print servicesNearby in the John Dalton workshops you haveaccess to our award-winning MMU Print Services,where you can get your work professionally printedat Reprographics. Large format printing andfinishing is also available.

Laptop loansWe offer a laptop loan service from the All Saintscampus, available free of charge. Laptops areavailable to borrow for one week at a time and canbe booked, collected and returned via theLanguage Resources Centre on the first floor of theMabel Tylecote Building.

Getting onlineThere's Wi-Fi throughout Hollings and across thecampus, (even in the park opposite!) ensuring afast, reliable service. The new student TouchdownZones will provide you with easy, direct access tothe network too.

All Saints Snack Bar offers a wide range of high-qualitysandwiches, snacks and confectionary, as well as hot and colddrinks. The All Saints Snack Bar is the perfect place to grab aquick bite to eat. The Snack Bar is conveniently located besidethe library. Why not pop in to refuel on your next study break?

The Atrium Café has been refurbished during the Summerto offer a fantastic new café bar for the Geoffrey MantonBuilding. There will be a range of Grab & Go food plus a newrange of Middle Eastern flatbreads and panini plus a newMediterranean salad bar. Barista coffee and cold drinks willbe available.

The vibrant Food Zone at John Dalton is a great place tosocialise with friends. A range of sandwiches, snacks, pizzasand a choice of hot meals are included in our new menurange. Hot and cold drinks are also available.

The Hub Café at the Business School serves a selection ofpremium sandwiches, snacks, muffins and cakes. A range ofchilled soft drinks and barista coffees are available – open until8.00pm Monday –Thursday and also opens on Saturday and Sunday.

The Hub Kitchen at the Business School is open from8.00am to serve traditional hot breakfast and chilled yoghurtbar with fruits and cereals. The lunchtime menu includeschoices from our World Food menus, freshly made pizzas,sandwich meal deals, homemade soup, hot and cold drinks.Hot food available until 4.00pm Monday – Thursday, 2.00pmon Fridays. Hot food also available on Saturdays until 2.00pm.

The new Art School café offers barista coffee, specialty teas,a fantastic range of cakes plus sandwiches, soup and hotsnacks. Open until 6.00pm Monday – Thursday, closes at4.00pm Friday.

Within the Cavendish building vending machine services andwater coolers are available to provide a range of hot and colddrinks and snacks and water fountains available.

Library ServicesThe Sir Kenneth Green Library is located at the heart ofthe All Saints campus and provides you with a full rangeof services and resources to help you complete yourstudies and research successfully.

Food and DrinkAt All Saints we offer food and drink choicesfor every appetite. Whether you’re in the moodfor a barista coffee, a quick bite to eat or afreshly prepared hot meal, there’s an MMUfood and drink venue to suit you.

You must have your MMU ID cardwith you to enter the Library.

As well as the wealth of electronic resourcesavailable to you both on and off campus, younow have easy access to an increased range ofprint resources e.g. Fashion and Textile studentscan take advantage of the combined Art andDesign subject resources.

You will also benefit from 24/7 opening duringthe whole of the academic year. This means youwill be able to access the library resources in theevenings and on weekends.

The Sir Kenneth Green Library has beenundergoing major refurbishment in order toprovide a more welcoming environment andfurther enhance your learning spaces. Phase 2 ofthe refurbishment is now underway and includes:

n Creation of a new IT Zone on the first floor

n Creation of a Quiet Study Zone on the fourth floor

n Improvements to the infrastructure, includingthe heating/ventilation system, lighting andreplacement of windows.

In September, library staff will be available towelcome new and returning students to the library.During this time, new students will receive aninduction to the wealth of library services availableto them, while returning students will also havethe opportunity to meet library staff and explorethe library and its facilities.

Term time opening hoursThe main library is open 24/7 during term timestarting Monday 23rd September. A night teamin the Library will ensure the safety of thebuilding and its occupants. The “Late Shift” willonly be able to log any queries or problems thatmay arise but they will pass these on to librarystaff when they come in.

PCs, printing and photocopying facilities will beavailable. You can continue to study and toconsult library stock.

By trainManchester Oxford Road Railway StationThe All Saints campus is just a fiveminute walk away. Turn right out ofOxford Road Station and walkunderneath the railway bridge. The All Saints campus is to your right.

Manchester Piccadilly Railway StationFollow the signs for Fairfield Street taxiranks and take the 147 bus to OxfordRoad/All Saints. The bus runs every 10-15 minutes. You can also walk, whichtakes 10-15 minutes.

Manchester Victoria Railway Station Follow the signs for the free metroshuttle bus service 2 (green). Get off atChester Street and walk up to OxfordRoad and turn right. The metro shuttleservice runs every 10 minutes.

By bus Fallowfield to All SaintsTake any of the following buses fromWilmslow Road and get off at OxfordRoad/All Saints: 42, 42A, 43, 44, 111,142 or 143.
