Prince Edward Island is home to Atlantic Canada’s newest school of performing arts!

With its rich traditions in music, dance and theatre, Atlantic Canada offers excellent youth and secondary school programming which produces students eager to pursue post-secondary education and training in the performing arts. The Holland College School of Performing Arts (SoPA), provides a post-secondary opportunity for students to develop their artistic skills, share their passion for music and dance, explore career options in the performing arts, and gain an understanding of the business side of the performance industry.

SoPA is a partnership between Holland College and Confederation Centre of the Arts. In its three program offerings, Dance Performance, Music Performance and Performing Arts Foundation, SoPA offers students the unique opportunity to:

• Workwithinstructorswhocomestraightfromthestage and studio

• Trainandperforminauniqueenvironmentincludingthe halls, green room and stages of Confederation Centre of the Arts

• Participateinindustryevents• Buildthefoundationforfurtherpost-secondary

education.

GO!Dance Performance

In the Dance Performance program, you will learn the technical and artistic skills required for a career as a professional dancer; develop an understanding of the business aspect of the profession; and learn the etiquette of the performing arts.

Start: September Length: 2 years Location: Confederation Centre of the Arts & Prince of Wales CampusCredential Issued: Diploma, Dance Performance

Admission Requirements

• Grade 12 or equivalent with credits at or above the general level • Performance audition • Resumé

Train for the commercial music and entertainmentindustry.Bythetimeyougraduate, you will be able to interpret and perform many contemporary music styles suchasrock,country,funk,R&B,jazz,Celtic and world music, and have a strong understanding of the theory, analysis and influencesofcontemporarymusicstyles. You will also learn the business aspects of a self-managed career in the music industry.

Admission Requirements

• Grade 12 or equivalent with credits at or above the general level • Performance and theory audition • Resumé

GO!Work as a performer in concert halls, cruise ships, lounges, theatres, film,television,recordingstudios, or be self-employed.

Performing Arts Foundation

Take an in-depth look at career options with the performing arts, both onstage and behind the scenes. In this program, you will hone your performance and technical production skills, develop a greater knowledge and improved ability to work within a creative environment; and have a deeper understanding of the nature of a career in the performing arts.Bytheendofthisone-yearprogram, you will have gained the skills required for acceptance into more advanced training in you chosen area, and will have the opportunity to prepare audition pieces.

Confederation Centre of the Arts was founded in 1964 as Canada’s national memorial to the Fathers of Confederation, who gathered at Province House in 1864 to discuss the creation of Canada. Prince of Wales CampusLocated in downtown Charlottetown, the Prince of Wales Campus is home to most of the college’s programs. The campus includes the Charlottetown Centre, the School of Performing Arts, the Centre for Community Engagement, and the new $17 million Centre for Applied Science and Technology. The college’s residence, Glendenning Hall, is also located on the Prince of Wales Campus.
