Palm Tree PruningThe reasons for not pruning palm leaves until they’redead. Fewer than half the palms in Central Florida’shome landscapes and on municipal and commercialproperties are correctly pruned. Removing palmleaves should be avoided unless they’re completelydead which means brown. First, because palms aremonocots, like bamboo and lilies, they have anentirely different physiology and manner of growth.A major way in which palms are distinct is that theoldest, still living leaves provide a stream of vitalnutrients especially potassium to the newly emergingand developing spear leaf. As the oldest leaves aredrained of their nutrients, they become green andyellow, then yellow and brown, and finallycompletely brown.

As the summer draws to a close, we arebeginning our plans for the fall andwinter. In a short time, our northernfriends will be back, the course will fillup, and traffic in Zephyrhills will be

back to the way it is each winter. Our winter ratesfor non-member golf will be in effect on Oct 15th.Prices will remain the same as last year: 9 holes-$12.00 plus tax; 18 holes- $18.00 plus tax.Two more tee boxes have been added to the sixalready leveled. According to Bob Smith, the sodfields are too wet to harvest new sod. We are firston the list to receive sod from our distributor; assoon as it is delivered, it will be put down on the teeboxes. The fertilizer put down in May has combined wellwith the abundance of rain and has given us somedecent grass on the course. Please continue to abideby the 90 degree rule to help preserve the fairways. The course will be closed all day Thursday, Sept18th for aeration of the greens.Golfers (and non-golfers alike) MUST exercisemore caution when truing from Bubba Dr. ontoJomar. There is a stop sign there don’t just pause orfollow the cart in front of you when turning thecorner. Those who hit balls on the driving range should bepicking up the balls they hit; don’t leave them forthe next guy. On Wednesday afternoons, between 4and 5, all balls need to be picked up so that therange can be cut on Thursday.Gary LeMay: Director of Golf

Pro Shop Managers Notes September Golf NewsSpeeding: Once again this has to be addressed. I am seeing so many of you speeding. The speed limit andstop signs are there for a reason. It is a safety issue and we all need to be more aware of how we are drivingin the community. The posted Speed Limit is 15 MPH and for good reason.Golf Carts: There have been a lot of children driving the golf carts again. You must be a licensed driver todrive a golf cart. Also please do not allow the children to hang off the back of the golf carts, this is verydangerous. Golf carts must obey the same rules of the road as cars. Please do not drive across the roadsfrom the golf course without stopping and looking to make sure there are no cars. Someone is going to gethurt if this continues.Hurricane Letters: We are right in the middle of Hurricane season, thankfully the tropics have been calm.We still have to be prepared. Hurricane info letters went out again with your September bills. If you didnot receive one, please stop by the office and pick one up.F.Y.I: We have installed the battery back up on the gate. If there is power outage the back up should kickin and open the out going gates. There is no back up on the entrance gates so we have to use cautionentering or leaving the community if there is a power outage. Also if you notice that the gates are not openplease call the office or if its after hours call my cell phone so we can get the gates open. Thank You.Pressure Washing Homes: This is again the time of year we need to walk around our homes, especiallythe north side and see if they need to be pressure washed. If you already have an appointment please callthe office and let us know and we wont send out a letter. Thank you.
