Birds of prey are Nature's tools of destruction for rats and mice which are arguably the worst enemies of farmers. They inspire an awe which birds of other categories fail to do. Eagles, owls, ospreys, harriers, hawks (eg., shikra), vultures, are some such birds. Of these, the resident birds of prey of Noida Golf Course are:

NGC Birds of Prey

The sight of this regal bird soaring high in the sky is common enough but groups of these awesome birds sitting on the fairways (esp sixth and eighth) is an equally common visual on our course. The biggest nest on the highest branch of the tallest tree on NGC would be of an eagle. Eagles are mono-gamous and use the same nest each year.

Small and heavily barred. Usually seen at dusk. But I was lucky to spot a pair in broad daylight on the fourth fairway rough.

The jungle owlet hunts mainly at dusk and dawn and its meal may consist of insects, small birds and reptiles or rodentsIt is known to call and fly during the daytime

This pigeon sized bird is a lightly built hawk (also called cheepak in Hindi) It Is blue grey above and white barred below. Tail is black and barred.

A shikra being chased by the Drongo (remember the glossy black bird with a long forked tail, also called the jungle kotwal) is an amazing sight.

Small sized. Grey and white with black shoulders. I have spotted this bird on the wires overhead the parking lot of Noida Golf Course.

Like other raptors, black w i n g e d k i t e s h a v e a n e x c e l l e n t e y e s i g h t a n d powerful bills and claws. They breed all year round.

It's safe to say that Caddies are the right hand of all golfers, for you may have noticed that more often than not they're standing on your right side at each shot. And, you take your club from them with the same hand, too. So, to give them their due credit, the idea of organising a match between the caddies and the members formulated. We got immense support at every step, right from the Secretary, the Golf Captain, the Members, the Manager, the Caddy Masters, and the Caddies themselves.

YOUNGACHIEVERS

Fun Tournament, an annual feature, well organized by the Ladies Section, was played on Saturday, the 28th August 2010.

To make it fun filled, interesting and exciting, all the players had to play 9 holes keeping only three clubs and a putter in their bag. Nearly 60 men & ladies donned themselves in colourful attire and took off on a shot gun start at the Noida Golf Course.

‘Swig and Swing’ was taken very seriously and well rewarded too. Players who had a glass of beer or a peg

of vodka got an extra stroke on that hole'. Isn't it interesting? Well, somebody has rightly said, "Golf is like a love-affair, if you don't take it seriously, its no fun. But if you take it seriously, it breaks your heart."

Back to the tournament, what a great round of golf it was! As the players made their way around, they were not only greeted and welcomed by beer and vodka but also had the chance to win extra prizes on certain holes.

Each four ball had a prize for the straightest drive and of course nearest to the pin. The game was done and was followed by tambola and of course a great lunch.

The prize winners took home Fab India Vouchers.
