Dear New Cumberland Borough Resident,

Please be advised that Penn Waste, Inc has been awarded the Solid Waste & Recycling Collection contract with New Cumberland Borough for the term of 3/1/18 - 2/28/21. We look forward to servicing the residents of New Cumberland Borough. Our goal is to provide you with superior customer service. Please review the contents of this flyer for useful information on your collection service.

Please have your items placed at the curb prior to 6:00 AM as we will start promptly. Your collection day will remain the same as your previous contract. Your weekly collection will consist of the following options below. New Cumberland Borough will be billing you under this contract.

Mobile carts for Trash and Recycling are new to this contract. Please reference the article in this newsletter for more information.

Penn Waste is the exclusive hauler for New Cumberland Borough under this contract. The service level is as follows:

Basic Service - Unlimited96 Gallon Mobile Cart Service

Non-Recyclable Items• NEEDLES & MEDICAL WASTE

DO NOT place ANY needles of ANY KIND or ANY other medical waste with recycling! This is a serious health hazard to everyone!

The Covered Devices Recycling Act prohibits residents and businesses from placing their electronic waste at the curb or in their trash.

Covered devices include: desktop computers, laptops, monitors, computer peripherals (keyboard, mouse, printer, and speakers), televisions, or e-readers that browse the internet.

Bulk Item GuidelinesNew Cumberland Borough residents may dispose of one (1) bulk item per week through curb side collection. Please have your waste, recycling, and bulk item available for collection at the curb by 6:00 am. A bag of trash does not count as a bulk item.

ACCEPTED MATERIALS – Appliances, furniture, mattresses, box springs, one (1) car tire without the rim, lawn mowers (oil and gasoline removed), plumbing fixtures such as toilets and sinks, three (3) 4 ft. rolls of carpet (tied).

NON-ACCEPTABLE MATERIALS – Electronic Waste (computers, televisions, etc.) chemicals, stains, liquids, batteries, automobile parts, hazardous waste, tires on rims, commercial/industrial waste, construction materials (drywall, brick, block, lumber, shingles, tiles, concrete).

ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS – Items which are too heavy to be lifted into a truck by two people will not be accepted. Additional trash bags are NOT considered a bulk item.

Appliances with Freon will be collected by appointment only. Please call Penn Waste at 717-767-4456 to schedule collection. (Items include but are not limited to air conditioners, refrigerators, freezers, etc.)

As part of the new contract, Penn Waste will now offer the residents of New Cumberland Borough mobile carts for service. All residents will receive twho carts (one for trash and one for recycling) and will be asked to keep carts for 60 days. If after 60 days, you would like for us to remove the mobile carts, please contact our customer service department at 717-767-4456 and we will schedule their removal. All residents will receive the following:• Trash Cart: Customers will receive one (1) 96 gallon mobile cart for trash collection. This cart will has a green base and a black lid.• Recycle Cart: Customers will receive one (1) 65 gallon mobile cart for recycling collection. This cart has a blue base and a yellow lid.

Service information:• All service levels may place one (1) bulk item curbside per week.• An unlimited amount of recycling may be placed curbside. If you would like to place excess of your mobile cart provided, you may use

other bins as long as they are clearly labeled “RECYCLE”.

Mobile Cart Service for New Cumberland Borough Residents

Proper Mobile Cart Placement:Please be advised that all mobile carts should be placed behind the curb. There should be nothing placed in the roadway that would impede or delay the removal of snow or ice from the road. The garbage truck arm has the capability to reach past the curb in order to pick up your cans.

Here are some tips to ensure a smooth collection process:

• Set mobile cart out by 6:00 AM.• Place mobile cart with the lid handle and wheels pointing toward your residence.• Do not place cart in the roadway.• Do not block walkways with carts.• Place carts at least THREE FEET APART from each other and mailboxes, fire hydrants, low hanging trees or shrubs, parked cars, or

utility poles - so trucks can easily access the cart.

Observed holidays are noted in RED. Collection days that fall on or after the holiday will be delayed one day. EXCEPTION: If holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, there is no change in service prior to or after the holiday.
