FOR WINTER SESSIONS!Ages 3 to Adult

The start of moustache season is here and the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) and the Movember campaign is calling on all men and women to “Shave the Date: Movember 1.” Movember participants like those in the NA3HL are hosting local events across the US on Movember 1 to kick off the moustache movement to change the face of men’s health.

This year, the North American 3 Hockey League (NAHL) along with their partners in the NAHL, have announced that for the second straight season, it will be a part of Movember with their own campaign involv-ing all the teams and the almost 500 players in the league. The NA3HL Movember cam-paign is all about bringing back the mous-tache, having fun and doing it for a serious cause; men’s health, specifically prostate and testicular cancer initiatives.

Here is how it works… as the official rules of Movember state, all Mo Bros (the NA3HL players), once registered, must begin clean-shaven on the 1st of Movember and grow just a moustache (no beards, no goatees) for the 30 days of November. For the rest of the month, these selfless and generous men groom, trim and wax their way into the annals of fine moustachery. Also supported by the women in their lives, Mo Sistas, the

NA3HL and their Movember Mo Bros raise funds for awareness for their Mo-growing efforts. Mo Bros effectively become walk-ing, talking billboards for the 30 days of November.

By joining one of the NA3HL teams, fans will automatically be a part of the their team’s NA3HL Network page which is a great way to connect with the other teams and individuals and keep up to date with the other Movember Moustache merchants. Fans are also encouraged to tweet pictures of their Mo’s (mustaches) to @NA3HL

Participation is really simple - men and women register at Movember to grow or support the Mo. Once registered, Movember participants recruit friends, family and col-leagues to donate to their Mo- growing efforts. In 2012, Movember US saw more than 209,000 Americans growing and sup-porting the Mo, raising $21 million for men’s health to combat prostate and testicular cancer. Donations to your favorite team will accumulate under each teams account. Although Mo Bros don’t begin to grow until Movember 1st, October is the most impor-tant time for Mo Bros and Mo Sistas to regis-ter. To follow/donate to your favorite team, go to http://us.movember.com/donate.

It was St Louis University High’s first Mid-States title in 41 years but first year coach Kevin Fitzpatrick is still smiling with a solid nucleus in place. The Junior Bills finished 24-4 a year ago and leading scor-er Chase Berger moved on. But rock solid goaltending returns in senior Brenden Haselhorst and sophomore Joe Warnecke, the hero of last years improbable playoff run to the championship, to back up a rebuilt but experience defensive corps. Haselhorst was injured late in the season a year ago but returns to claim his top spot in the nets. Warnecke will split time with the senior after playing so well in the playoffs a year ago.

Defensively SLUH is led by seniors Stan Pawlow and Jack Kinzel with sopho-mores Andrew Ott, Stephen Lockwood, and Tommy Epenschied all gaining valuable time on varsity a year ago as freshmen to bolster the defensive crew. Offensively SLUH will look to senior Christian Hoffmeister to pick up the scor-ing punch delivered by Berger a year ago. Hoffmeister scored 14 goals and added 15 assists a year ago and should receive ample support from fellow senior Liam Fitzgerald (8g, 8a), Patrick Pence, Cole Tarlas, John Potter and a promising group of newcomers from last year’s Junior Varsity championship team.

While SLUH reloads CBC will again be waiting in the wings with a solid group of players returning looking to skate at Scottrade in the finals once again. Coach John Jost will look to rebuild a defense while returning almost a complete for-ward unit. Seniors Glenn Ryan (19g, 20a) and Joe Lupo (11g, 13a) headline the offensive attack with senior Mike Beckham (7g, 10a), junior Josh Bell and sophomores Andy McGlynn, Austin Rucschhoiff (18g, 10a), all capable goal scorers. McGlynn, with 25 goals and 26 assists became the first freshmen to lead the Cadets in scor-ing in its storied history on ice.

On the backline, CBC seniors Mike Sieckhaus, Ryan Croghan, and Alex Clark are rock solid and the return of junior Drew Croghan from shoulder surgery in December should help bolster the Cadet defensive corps. In goal senior Joe Staeley is poised for a big year and coach Jost has all the weapons to make another title run.

Oakville could play spoiler this year with a big group of seniors looking to reach the title game after a semifinal berth a year ago. Sniper Steve Farina (20g, 17a) leads the potent Oakville attack for coach Derek Stephens. The Tigers, 18-9 a year ago, also return slick skating seniors Lance French and Zach Mitchell (3g, 23a), while junior Charles Freshman (18g, 9a) is another weapon Stephens can count on. Senior netminder Blake Chapman appears solid between the pipes and defense remains the only question mark until the return of injured senior Cameron Dulle.

Chaminade and DeSmet are similar teams this year as graduation wiped out their respective rosters but both return a solid nucleus to contend. Chaminade fin-ished 17-6 a year ago and should improve that mark if they can replace leading scorers John and Toppie Hogan and

Trey Dodd, now playing junior hockey. Defensively the Red Devils are solid with Bradley Johnson, Adam Roeder, Jacob Debus, and Kenny Behlman, while up front Michael Parisot and Jake Caruthers headline a rebuilt offensive unit.

DeSmet always seems to contend and a big reason again will be the return of center Charles Combs. Combs transferred from MICDS at mid-season and made an immediate impact for the Spartans offensively and he along with junior Jeff Makowski gives DeSmet a solid one-two punch. Spartan senior defender Brent Feltes heads up a rebuilt defensive unit in front of goalies Aaron Brickman and Conner Walsh.

Lindbergh was also hit hard by gradu-ation but should have enough in the tank to contend. Sophomore goalie Sam Stephens appears to be solid between the pipes and forwards Zane O’Brien, Adam Havener, and Sam Maddox supply the offensive firepower for coach Greg Anderson.

Kirkwood comes in next in the pre-season Top Ten with solid goaltending in Jacob Bopp and Matthew Eagon and a solid defense headed by junior Michael Davies, Connor Mitchell and senior Dustin Smith head up the offensive attack.

Vianney could be a surprise this year with a deep returning roster that fea-tures rock solid defenders Chris Brown and Nolan Wuesthoff. Senior netminder Brendan Schuck appears headed for a stellar senior campaign for head coach Brian McGlynn and up front power for-wards Nick Allgeyer and Josh Estes could be factors in the Golden Griffins return to prominence in Mid States.

Rounding out the Hockey Stops pre-season Top Ten are the Seckman Jaguars and Eureka Wildcats. Seckman forwards Jake Champaign and Frankie Melton are proven goal scorers while defenseman Brian Schumacher is a solid defender in front of goalie Brendan Berada.. Eureka has a senior netminder in Sam Boyer that could spell many a problem for other Mid States teams while forwards Ryan Edwards and Tommy Keuser provide ample scoring power.

Teams on the outside looking in but could quickly move up the ladder to crack the top ten include Rockwood Summit, Francis Howell Central, Fort Zumwalt West, Lafayette, and Wentzville Timberland.

Hockey is the perfect melding of team effort and individual performance. From the blueline to the slot, in the corners, and along the boards the game is won and lost. CBC forward Glen Ryan excels in these areas, and in the Top Hat Classic final, Ryan was at his best in those cru-cial spots on the rink.

Held scoreless in the first four games of the tournament, Ryan emerged with a gritty performance scoring twice in CBC’s 5-4 win over Oakville in the 20th annual Top Hat Classic at the Webster Groves Arena.

The tournament final was another tug-of-war between the two schools who met in last years Mid States semi-finals where CBC won the two game set to advance to the finals at the Scottrade.

With an edge in speed, CBC used it to pounce on turnovers and force Oakville to make quick, and sometimes bad deci-sions with the puck. The game win-ning goal came as a result of a neutral

ice turn-over which CBC for-ward Andy M c G l y n n q u i c k l y turned into the game w i n n i n g tally feed-ing line-mate Austin Rucschhoff who in turn sent center Joey Lupo on his way to beat Oakville keeper Blake Chapman. It was Lupo’s second goal of the game to share high honors with Ryan as the two seniors stepped to the front of the class to lead the Cadets.

“Great game and as always a hard

fought battle,’’ said Oakville coach Derek Stephens. “But too many odd man rushes, too many 2-on1’s. The score indicates we had way too many break-downs in the neutral zone and our own end.” Stephens added following the

heartbreaking defeat to his alma mater. Stephens was a 1998 CBC grad and former player under CBC coach John Jost.

In the losing effort Oakville was paced by senior Steve Farina with a pair of goals and sin-gle tallies by senior Zach Mitchell and freshman Conner Lange. The Tigers led the game 3-2 late in the second period when Ryan took matters in his own hands. The senior forward took a pass from CBC senior defenseman Mike Sieckhaus and fired a shot by Oakville netminder Chapman with 38 seconds to play in the 2nd peri-od to tie the score, and then Ryan gave the Cadets another lead scoring on a rebound off of a Spencer Sellenbach shot.

“Great to see Glen get a couple of goals on the scoresheet. He has been working very hard in prac-tice,” said CBC coach Jost. “Glen sat out the semifinal

game (a 5-2 win over Chaminade) but he had a lot of jump tonight.”

Speaking of jump the Cadets started quickly in the championship game, scor-ing just 38 seconds into the contest as sophomore Andy McGlynn blasted a shot from the slot past a stunned Oakville netminder Chapman. For McGlynn it was his fifth of the pre-season tournament after scoring the winning goal in the semi-final game over Chaminade.

But the game see-sawed back and forth as the Tigers unleashed a never say die attitude and fought hard through-out the game. CBC dominated the shot totals outshooting the Tigers 36-19. But Oakville proved to be a worthy final par-ticipant after winning all four previous tournament games.

“Great finish” said tournament direc-tor Dave Garth. “We’ve seen a lot of great hockey over the years in the Top Hat, and it’s great to see the coaches embrace the event” added Garth, the longtime Webster Groves coach who has headed the event since its inception in 1994 when Vianney upended DeSmet in the tourney’s first year.

With the end of the Top Hat now begins the Mid-States hockey season. And so starts the quest for another Mid-States championship banner at CBC.

But Oakville and a handful of oth-ers will certainly have something to say about it, which was clearly evident throughout the Top Hat tournament this past month.

ST.CHARLES, Mo. (October 24, 2013) The 2005-06 Lindenwood University roller hockey team was induct-ed into the L i n d e n w o o d

Sports Hall of Fame at the annual Hall of Fame banquet October 18 in St. Charles, Mo. The team was one of seven new inductees honored for 2013.

The 2005-06 Lions were one of the most dominant teams in roller hockey history. They compiled a 40-0-0 record and out-scored their opponents 377-32 on the season, which culminated with a fifth straight National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association (NCRHA) Championship. At that event, Lindenwood won all seven games it played by an average of 7.7 goals, ending with a 7-5 victory over Michigan State in the title contest.

Two Lions were named to the NCRHA 2006 All-Tournament Team. Greg Thompson was honored with a first team selection while Travis Fudge earned a spot on the second team.

Head coach of the 2006 team, and cur-rent head coach Ron Beilsten remembered the championship squad after the Hall of Fame banquet.

“The 2005-06 team was the true defini-tion of Team. Every player contributed in some way to the success of the season,” he said. “I told them after the ceremony that as great as that championship was, I remember the journey of the entire season even more. It truly was my honor to coach this wonderful bunch of guys from all over the country!”

Lindenwood roller hockey extended the streak of consecutive championships to seven straight in 2007 and 2008. The Lions also won the title in 2010 and are the reigning NCRHA champions for 2013. They began the 2013-14 season last week-end with three wins, scoring at least 10 goals in each game.

For more information about Lindenwood roller hockey, please contact head coach Ron Beilsten or Student Life Sports Information Director Phil Vida.

St. Charles Chill (www.stcharleschill.com) - October 30, 2013

St. Charles, Mo. – The St. Charles Chill entered the second period with a 1-0 lead over the Missouri Mavericks but surren-dered six-straight goals to their cross-state rivals, five in the second period, on their way to a 6-1 loss Wednesday night at The Family Arena.

The game started well with St. Charles (1-3-1) controlling the action and lighting the lamp first on a goal from Kyle Kraemer after Anthony Perdicaro skated end-to-end to set up the one-timer from the top of the crease to give the Chill the lead at the 12:00 mark.

The Mavericks (4-0-0), playing without two suspended players and in their fourth-straight road game to start the season, turned it on early in the second period when Joe-Scott Dickson evened the score less than two minutes into the second. Evan Vossen gave the Mavs the lead at the 6:20 mark before Eric Costanguay, Andrew Courtney, and Kyle Hood each scored in the final five

minutes of the period to put the game out of reach even for the Chill, who climbed out of a five-goal deficit last weekend.

On a night that saw the St. Louis Cardinals succumb to the Boston Red Sox in the World Series, it was only fitting that Massachusetts native Obi Aduba, who was sporting a Red Sox cap prior to the game, finished off the scoring in the third period for Missouri to push the final score at The Family Arena to 6-1.

The Chill is back on the ice in Quad City on Friday night before returning home Saturday for Military Appreciation Night at The Family Arena. Five dollar tickets are available for any active and retired member of the armed forces and their families by calling the Chill front office at 636.724.7468.
