description

Onset's HOBO Plug Load Logger is a high-accuracy, easy-to-deploy data logger that measures and records the power and energy consumption of 120V plug loads from office equipment, vending machines, and other devices. The UL certified logger provides 0.5% measurement accuracy with a measurement resolution of 1 watt, making it an ideal choice for building audits where detailed energy use data is required. The rugged housing is designed to withstand the rigors of real-world handling, providing reliable performance despite bumps, drops, and use under desks. Uses of the HOBO Plug Load Logger include; 1) Office Space Energy Auditing: To determine individual work-space energy consumption both prior to employing energy savings devices (like smart power strips) and after implementation to confirm energy savings. 2) Office Space Energy vs Occupancy Mapping: Combining HOBO Occupancy logger data with PLL in the same space to get energy usage vs occupancy information 3) Vending Machine Monitoring 4) Commercially-conducted home office and entertainment center monitoring Key Features include; • List Price US $ 239 • 6 native measurements –True RMS Voltage and current, Active Power (Watts), Active Energy (Wh/kWh), Apparent Power (VA), Power Factor • Voltage Range: 120 VAC (nominal) +/- 15% –50/60Hz –NEMA 5-15R/P Outlet Configuration • Current Range: 8.3mA (min) to 15A (max) –1800 watts maximum • Minimum Power Resolution = 1.0-watt • Accuracy – 0.5% up to 14 Amp continuous; up to 1.0% over 14 Amp when equipment being monitored is at 100% duty cycle • +/- 0.02 for PF • Drift - Up to 0.5% typical within 1st year • Calibration - This device has been calibrated using equipment that has been tested in accordance with ANSI C12.20 0.5%. • LCD Display for real time viewing –One second LCD refresh rate • Automatic “Meter Mode” (display only) when plugged in and not launched • 1.4 million measurements • Battery powered when not connected to AC power. Why just a North American Configuration?

• Because of the aggressive development schedule (6-months) it was not feasible to incorporate multiple outlet/voltage variations in the time allotted.

• Moving forward, Onset will be looking for input from our customers and distribution network as to the viability and interest in this product in their specific regions so we can make an informed decision as to which additional international configurations should be added to the product.

If you have any questions about if this product is correct for your application, please contact Onset at [email protected]

“Next/Clear” Pushbutton Functions Logging vs Meter Mode

• In “Meter” Mode, push and hold the “Next/Clear” pushbutton for 3-seconds to reset the accumulated Wh back to zero.

• In “Logging” Mode, push and hold the “Next/Clear” pushbutton for 3-seconds to reset minimum or maximum statistics displayed on the LCD to zero until the next screen refresh (1-second).

– This does not affect the logged data.

– Note: Minimum and maximum statistics are displayed as the min or max values detected since the logger was last launched OR since the “Next/Clear” button was last pressed.

Displayed vs Logged Energy Consumption (Wh) Logging Mode

11

• Logged Wh in the data set are presented as the total Wh logged per interval. • Filters can be applied in HOBOware

to calculate total energy consumption for a specific time period. Energy consumption/day, for example.

• Displayed Wh on the LCD increment for the duration of the deployment when in logging mode. (until logger is readout and relaunched)

Statistics…done a little bit differently than other HOBO data loggers.

12

The UX120-018 uses a fixed (non-adjustable) statistics sampling rate of 16.67mS (or once per cycle). This means that , when min, max or average statistics are selected the value recorded in the data file is derived from the number of single-cycle samples per interval: For example: Statistics for a 1-minute logging interval are based on 3600 samples; 60 Hz x 60-seconds. For a 5-minute interval it’s based on 18,000 samples (60 Hz x 300-seconds)

1-cycle = 16.67 mS

FAQs • How do I know my UX120-018 is accurate?

– Each logger has all of its measurement channels calibrated to ANSI C12.20 0.5%/ IEC 62053-22 Class .5S A calibrated high-accuracy digital energy meter is used to verify the accuracy of each channel.

• How does “Meter Mode” work?

– If the logger is not launched, as soon as it is plugged in, it begins displaying all the measurements on the LCD and displays the word “Meter”. Once the logger is launched, the word “Meter” is replaced by “Logging”. To go back to Meter Mode after a logging session, readout the data from memory and select “stop”. The logger will revert to Meter Mode as long as it is still plugged in.

• What happens if the batteries die during a deployment?

– The logger will continue logging as long as it is attached to the AC power. You should make an attempt to stop the logger with HOBOware and read out your data prior to unplugging it from AC power to prevent data corruption in the event that power is removed during a period when the logger is writing to memory.

• Can I log data to memory without batteries installed?

– This is not advisable as the data file being logged could become corrupt if the AC power is lost. The batteries are there to ensure reliable data is recorded.

• What countries will the existing design support?

Definitions

• True RMS Voltage or Current: RMS stands for Root Mean Square. True RMS is the real or effective value of AC voltage or current for a circuit.

• Active Energy: The watt-hour (Wh) is a unit of energy equivalent to

one watt (1 W) of power expended for one hour (1 h) of time. kWh is a unit of energy equal to 1,000 watt-hours

• Real or Active power (W) is the capacity of the circuit for performing

work in a particular time. • Apparent power (VA) is the product of the current and voltage of the

circuit. • The power factor (PF) is defined as the ratio of the real or active

power flowing to the load, to the apparent power in the circuit, and is a dimensionless number between -1 and 1.
