1939 Sophie Rehbinder-Kruse (daughter of famous

doll maker Käthe Kruse) develops the first grey modelling

clay for doll heads.

1954 Market launch of the product

under the name “FIMOIK”.

1966 Presentation of the range

Despite being the largest manufacturer of graphite and coloured pencils in Europe with around 2,200

in need. Initiated in 2008, this STAEDTLER

fund-raising event receives worldwide

any time. Millions of information items are

retrieved each second with smartphones,

tablets and PCs. But the internet is more.

Over the course of the last decades it in-

creasingly became an open platform where

people exchange views and information

every day – it became social. The term

‘social media‘ was born.

Facebook, Tumblr, Google+, Instagram and

Co. – anyone looking into this topic will

soon find out that social media are a good

tool for keeping in touch with customers,

providing interested persons with infor-

mation and entertaining fans of the brand

with the latest advice. But what are the

important factors?

MOBILE OPTIMISATION AS A STANDARD

Statistics show that one in two Germans

already own a smartphone and one in

five a tablet. In combination with the

fast transmission technologies offered

by the network operators it is becoming

increasingly natural to surf while on the

go. Websites have to be ready for this with

‘responsive design‘.

BE PRESENT IN SOCIAL MEDIA

A Facebook page is standard these days,

but are you also planning to have a Goog-

le+ page? Google is increasingly using its

market power to establish its own Google+

network. With 540 million users worldwide,

it is already half the size of Facebook today.

Try to appeal to all senses. Do not just wri-

te, but show images as well. Most people

react best to visual stimuli. Take the next

step and use videos as well. Videos add a

strong emotional component. Maybe you

already have your own YouTube channel for

your videos. Tumblr, Instagram or Pinterest

are ideal for image-based blogs.

SHARE AND RULE

‘Like‘, ‘Tweet‘, ‘+1‘ or ‘Share‘ are the

currency of word-of-mouth recommenda-

tions. The more often one of your articles or

links is shared, the more people come into

contact with your product and learn that it

exists. Maybe they will ask on their Face-

book pages where it can be bought. Or they

get advice from your blog or maybe watch

uploaded videos on YouTube. Social media

bring you closer to your customers than

ever before. Make use of this opportunity

for dialogue. It will pay off. First as ‘Likes‘

and ‘Tweets‘ and then, later on, at the POS.
