The vision for HKSMUN is to:

- facilitate discussion of relevant and current global issues,

- foster public speaking in the English language,

- model discussion and decision-making within the United Nations frame-work,

- raise awareness of the role of the UN in solving international and regional issues and conflicts,

- create opportunities for students to demonstrate leadership,

- develop relationships between secondary schools in Hong Kong’s Southern district.

And finally, we hope you will make new friends! The theme of the 2013 conference is “Achieving the

Millennium Development Goals” and each of the six councils and committees1 will discuss at least one issue

associated with one of the eight goals set by the United Nations in 2000 (see also www.un.org/millenniumgoals).

Have fun and learn lots!

The HKSMUN team of directors & The Secretaries-General Halle Hagan and Natalie Chow
