Jeb DunnuckISSUE #225 JUNE 2016

2014 Walla Walla Cabernet SauvignonBlack cherry, black raspberry, cassis, floral notes, and mocha on the nose. This wine is intensely structured and full bodied, with lively acid-ity. Red and blue fruits lead on the palate, with notes of cocoa, dried herbs, a hint of lavender, and fine-grained tannins on the long finish. A complex and pure expression of Walla Walla Cabernet, with just a hint of Old World savory complexity.

67% Seven Hills Cabernet Sauvignon

26% Pepper Bridge Cabernet Sauvignon

7% Figgins Estate Merlot

Aged 20 months in 60% new French oak

Tasted out of barrel, the 2014 Walla Walla Valley Cabernet Sauvignon sports an inky, opaque color to go with classic Walla Walla notes of smoked duck, currants, licorice and chocolate. Rich, con-centrated, yet still fresh and lively, with present tannin and a great finish, it should be reasonably approachable on release yet cruise for 15-20 years in the cellar.

The finest wine I’ve tasted from Chris, the jaw-droppingly good 2014 Horse Heaven Hills Caber-net Sauvignon got a big “wow” in the notes and was easily my favorite of the new releases under the Passing Time label. Black raspberries, cur-rants, creme de cassis, smoked earth and mineral all flow from this black/blue colored, full-bodied, concentrated, yet thrillingly fresh and elegant Cabernet. Let’s just hope it shows this well from bottle!

2014 Horse Heaven HillsCabernet SauvignonThis is the most sensual wine of the three Cab-ernets. A wide assortment of wild berries, red and black cassis, blackberry, designer chocolate dustings, and Madagascar vanilla bean waft from the glass. The palate is silky, ultra-complex, and very concentrated with blueberry compote, cassis, grilled bread, espresso, jasmine and violet notes that evolve on the rich palate with each taste. A blockbuster of a wine that will reward many years in the cellar, though it is tempting now.

43% Discovery Cabernet Sauvignon

43% Champoux Cabernet Sauvignon

9% Klipsun Merlot

5% Champoux Cabernet Franc

Aged 20 months in 80% new French oak

Jeb DunnuckISSUE #225 JUNE 2016

2014 Red Mountain Cabernet SauvignonThis monster of a wine, leads with black cassis, dark plum, blackberry, crushed rock, cigar box, and violet aromas. The wine itself is stuffed with concentrated dark fruits, cassis liqueur, toasted vanilla bean, and mineral elements, with an exotic floral hint that lingers on the palate. This is a compelling and powerful wine, the essence of Klipsun Old Vine Cabernet. It will be fun to follow it for two decades or more.

Jeb DunnuckISSUE #225 JUNE 2016

A sensational-looking barrel sample that tastes like the essence of Red Mountain, the full-bodied, structured 2014 Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon possesses a savory, mineral-drenched bouquet of red and black currants, chocolate, black cherries and graphite. As is always the case with the top wines from this appellation, this is backwards and reticent, and will reward 4-5 years of cellaring.

Z’IVO Wines 2012 Pinot Noir Eola Amity Hills AVA, Willamette Valley, Oregon, USA

WINEMAKER NOTES

Another amazing even numbered year for Pinot noir from the Eola-Amity Hills AVA. The spring and summer were disturbingly flawless. Moderately high daytime temperatures, excellent fruit set and low mildew pressure all lent their support for an excellent harvest. No rain for almost 100 days was balanced by adequate ground water and a blessed absence of scorching heat waves. The first mild rain during the last of harvest was a help not a hindrance. The vintage is comprised of the free run of all 5 clones from our estate vineyard: Dijon 115, 777, 114, 667 and Pommard. It was matured in French oak, 1/3 new, 1/3 once used and 1/3 twice used. Barreled after 11 months it has not been released until now. Final alcohol of 14.5%.

985 cases produced. $45 retail. The nose is heavy with blackberry, blue plum, black cherry, anise, allspice and mushroom. The mid palate has unusual weight with soft tannins coating the mouth slowly releasing the spicy cherry fruit. The finish is very long, soft, fruity and velvety with tiny herbal and forest floor notes popping through. Enjoy between 2015-2020.

2013 CHARDONNAY

Graton’s Choice

The Vintage: Another bumper crop but not quite as large as the previous. Grower anticipation had this year’s vines in perfect vine vigor/fruit balance. All phases of the growing season were strait forward and uneventful to the point of boring but boring winegrowing equates to excellent wine. Harvests in recent years are becoming more compact; this one lasted just 30 days. This would normally create overload difficulties in the winery but since Chasseur production has been decreasing significantly every grape received full attention. The resulting wines are stylistically the antithesis of the 2012’s, which were tightly wound early on and needed time to open up. The 2013’s are very forward, open, aromatic, flavorful and ready to drink.

Winemaker’s Notes: Sunny yellow straw in the glass with concentrated aromas that amass with lemon verbena, pineapple and paper whites. On the tongue, the flavors come in waves of mango, mint, thyme and sugar & cinnamon toast. A long lemon meringue pie finish with a touch of lime peel for complexity.

2013 Passing Time Cabernet Sauvignon, Horse Heaven HillsPassing Time is pleased to announce our second vintage, the 2013 Vintage Cabernet Sauvignon. In production, this was affectionately known as “Danny’s Vintage” because Dan Marino will forever be known as number 13, like this wine.

92-94+ Wine Advocate JUNE 2015“A blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon comes mostly from the Mays Discovery Vineyard (the Cab Franc is all from Champoux) and offers up textbook cassis, lead pencil shavings, currants and smoke. Inky colored, full-bodied, voluptuous, dense and serious, with sensational purity of fruit, this beauty will be approach-able with short-term cellaring, and keep for two decades.

This joint venture between football stars Damon Huard and Dan Marino, with the wines made by Chris Peterson of Avennia, is making one serious, age-worthy Cabernet Sauvignon.”

- Jeb Dunnuck, The Wine Advocate, June 2015

The 2013 Passing Time is a dark and brooding beast, opaque purple out to the rim. The nose is filled with dark fruits: pure, focused black cherry, blackberry, currant, espresso, and a hint of crushed lavender. This wine is rich and lush on the entry, with great weight in the mid-palate. Flavors of dusty vanilla, cacao, deep dark fruits, and mountain flowers lead to a long, structured finish. This wine should be delicious upon release and cellar well for a decade and more.

Being Thankful for Food & Wine

Fall brings a savory voice- and our cooking reflects it. As we tried different Mac n' Cheese recipes to serveat the Food & Wine Affair, I did one that we really loved (and have made a few times now for ourselves). It's a fabulously delicious dish that speaks "autumn", and yes, it is an absolutely perfect pairing for PinotNoir:

The Bridge Is Finished!

After a year and a half, the retrofit of our belovedHealdsburg Memorial Bridge has finally been completedand it is open again! This means when you visit you canonce again take the "Healdsburg Ave" exit and cross theriver over our "new" bridge. It may seem a small thing, but it has been a very long process. The State wanted totear it down, but the town rallied and managed to savethe bridge, which has been around a very long time. It'sgreat to have it available again, and it's easier to get herethan it has been of late. (And, it looks great!)

Food & Wine Affair

On November 8 and 9, we are participating in theRussian River Wine Road's "Food and Wine Affair". It'sa great event- usually not overly crowded, and eachparticipating winery has a food selection paired with awine (or wines). This year, we'll be slinging "Bacon Macn' Cheese"- paired with our Pinot Noir. Actually, all ourPinots work pretty well with the dish- it's really versatileand Pinot-friendly.

Plus, we'll have a little "something extra" to serve ourWine Club members.

Love is in the air.Everyone seems to be talking about Pinot Noir lately. The Wine Spectator, WineEnthusiast, Tasting Panel and Wine & Spirits all recently offered cover articleshighlighting this delicate varietal, and once again it was listed as one of the mostpopular wines in the US in 2014.

We couldn't agree more.

WINES WINE CLUB WINEMAKER ABOUT US EVENTS

We are blushing like a rose this Spring as our Chardonnaywas just awarded 93 Points by the Enthusiast and got a Gold in the 2016 San Francisco Chronicle Competition!

93 Points - Wine Enthusiast

"Fresh lemon and orange blossom aromas make for an

inviting entry to this impressively fragrant wine.

Surprisingly light on the palate, despite the

concentration and power, this is a focused, subtle expression of the variety, with layers of ripe apple, pear and peach,

unimpeded by the supportive oak."

- Virginie Boone, 2/1/2016

"Fragrant and complex nose of ripe, juicy pineapple, dry straw and honey suckle blossom. Rich body that

lingers on the palate accentuated by sweet French

oak characteristics. Good acidity and freshness balance out the finish with notes of

pear and citrus."

- Winemaker Philippe Melka

From: ZIVO Wines [email protected]: Pink Power: October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Date: October 8, 2015 at 2:29 PMTo: [email protected]

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annualcampaign to increase awareness of the disease. While most peopleare aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have aplan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage othersto do the same. As a surgeon, I know first hand the impact cancerhas on people's lives. That is why 10% of all sales of our Rosé ofPinot Noir in October will be donated to the Breast CancerResearch Foundation.

About the 2014 Rosé of Pinot NoirOur goal was to make a serious Rosé. One that expressed the real heart of Pinot Noir, but framed in flowers. To do this we fermented half in steel to preserve the primaryfruit and floral characteristic, and half in neutral oak to give an unexpected weightand mouth-feel to this delicately scented pink wine.

There is strawberry, wild red cherry cough drop and violets on the nose with a hint ofmeatiness that suggests a more earthy wine. The mid-palate is creamy at first thenelevates with a touch of residual C02 prickliness that frames the red fruit. The finishlingers with soft smooth tannins and nice acidity.

Barrel Tasting WeekendsWine Road Barrel WeekendsMarch 4-6 and March 11-1311:00am - 4:00pm - both weekendsBarrel Weekends are coming up quickly, so we're giving you the low down on the event. First and foremost, it's going to be a really good time. If you haven't attended before, it's an opportunity to taste our current 2015 vintage wines in barrel, and buy "futures" of the wines you like at a very low price. You can also pick up last year's futures if you bought them; John says "if you bought futures of the 2014s, you chose wisely".The 2015 harvest was small, so we have a limited amount of wine we can sell as futures. If you have purchased futures from us in the past, we will guarantee you an allocation. Those who have attended before know we'll have at least a couple wines in barrel to taste "in front", as well as a bevy of finished wines to taste at the bar, including last year's futures. John will be working "in back", pouring some very cool wines that are only available as futures to folks on our list-like you! To be able to go "in back" you'll need the secret password. And yes, we'll also have "the club lounge" - a separate area for

wine club members to relax. Your March shipment will be available for pick up throughout the event.Lots of wineries participate, both weekends are a blast, and tickets can be purchased here:

If you can't make it but are interested in futures, send us an email and we'll let you know what is available.Best,

John & Carri
