History of Children’s Ward The Children’s Ward was open on December 9 th , 1960 by Eunice Lady Oakes, who was the major contributor at the time. Funds were also donated by other community groups especially the Crippled Children’s Fund.The ward was constructed by Public Works Department. The Hospital School was established in 1979, the Family Room was constructed by the Roman Catholic Diocese in 1994 and the Children’s ward Education Center was established in December 2004. Staff Development . Mrs. Patricia Miller Brown – completed course in Child Health Care in 1988 . Mrs. Caffiene Brice Jn. Jacques completed Post Basic Certificate in Paediatric Nursing in 1994 . Ms. Rebecca Johnson completed Post Basic Certificate in Paediatrics Nursing in 1996 . Mission Statement

Executive Summary

The Pediatric Department continues to offer an exceptionally high level of

medical and nursing care services to children and their families who require

health care services. The Pediatric Department has a bed complement of

sixty (62) and comprises five units, and education room and the Hospital

School. The education room is utilized to provide educational sessions for

staff and clients and the Hospital School, affords school age children an

opportunity to continue their education during their hospitalization. Three

units East, West and Balcony accommodate patients ages six (6) months to

four (4) years old. The Nursery unit accommodates babies from newborns

up to five (5) months of age and the North unit accommodates children

between the ages of five (5) to twelve (12) years old. General Visiting hours

are: Monday – Friday 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m and Sundays 3:00 p.m. – 5:30

p.m.
