Afghanistan Civil War 1989-1992
● The Afghan civil war started in 1989 after the end of the Soviet war
● Shortly after the civil war the Taliban took control of the country in 1994
● Taliban organized camps for radicalized Muslims lead by Osama bin laden

● Terrorists in Afghanistan organized a series of attacks on different countries and even their own country
● Afghanistan became a lead country in harboring terrorists
● Main country in the war of the Middle East ● Massive human rights violations

● Al-Qaeda group in Afghanistan fly planes into twin towers and pentagon killing thousands of American citizens lead by Osama Bin Laden

● After 9/11 troops were put into the country to stop the taliban militarily
● Many Afghans actually wanted the U.S. in the country to help stop the taliban

● In 2009, Barack Obama drastically raised the amount of troops in Afghanistan
● With 496 casualties, 2010 was by far the deadliest year for U.S. troops fighting a war in Afghanistan
● One American Killed Every 18 Hours● Almost 17 times as many U.S. troops were killed
in the Afghanistan war in 2010 as were killed in 2002
● On August 6th,2011, American forces suffered their single deadliest day.

● From 2012-2014 taliban had a new one-eyed leader named Mullah Muhammed Omar
