Welcome and Introductions
Approval of Minutes: Minutes approved from both February and March meetings.
Neighborhood Concerns not on the Agenda: None brought up.
SODO Projects Update: Steven McWilliams. New traffic flow along Washington from McLoughlin to 21st
Ave. View “Downtown Pedestrian Map - North Side Washington St. Reconstruction April – June” and
“Downtown Milwaukie Parking during South Downtown Construction” on SODO website. 120 residents
participated in the Coho Point open house and/or filled out the online survey. Coho Point design
changed because of feedback from community. Thank you for participating!
Grant Requests:
Milwaukie Environmental Stewards: Terri Geier-Brindell. Prioritizing education about being
more environmentally aware after the plastic bag ban was passed. Reusable shopping bags
being sewn from donated fabric with MES logo sewn on. Asking $100 for supplies and
promotional materials. Look for a styrene collection event in August! Agilyx in Tigard will take
styrene. Motion made, seconded, and passed to donate $500 as seed money for this new non-
profit.
Food for Success: Rowe Middle School Program for breakfast and snacks for children. Monetary
donation would support the food itself. Asking $1000. Motion made, seconded, and passed to
provide the full grand amount.
Soul Box Project: Serafine. Milwaukie City Hall will host a show in August for the Soul Box Project, which
brings awareness to gun violence. Box-making events coming to Milwaukie. Look for them at First
Fridays in July and August. Looking for donations of 8.5” x 11” paper, crayons, or markers. Also looking
for volunteers to help during the First Friday event. Email Serafine at [email protected] to express
interest. Leave paper donations with Jordan Imlah at City Hall. Visit SoulBoxProject.org for more
information.
Discussion Items:
NDA Mission/Vision Statement: Proposed mission statement will be mailed out with next
month’s agenda. Thank you to those who have come early the past couple of months to
workshop these ideas!
Movies in the Park: North Clackamas Park is the closest location for us. We will not sponsor this
year since no movie will be in our neighborhood.
Residential Parking Permit: Exploring idea of residential parking permit program on Monroe
from train tracks to 28th. Can be either city-initiated or resident-initiated (requires 51% of
affected addresses to sign). Ray making a motion to ask the City Manager to pursue a parking
permit program. The NDA is hopeful that the City will create more parking.
Fireworks Education: Yard signs will provide education about fireworks. Enforcement is very
challenging on the holiday itself. There will be “No fireworks” signs at Milwaukie Bay Park, as
even legal fireworks are not permitted in parks.
First Friday: The event is taking on a new look – it’ll be along Main Street, but the street will still
be open. Vendors will be along the side of the street so pedestrians will access along the
sidewalk. Vendors can email [email protected] to get information. Vending spots
are free!
May Elections: Elections are coming up next month!
